Is there wireless access at DVC resorts? Is it free to anyone staying there or only to DVC owners? We have rented points from someone else and if it's free, we'll bring a laptop. Otherwise, it's staying home. Thanks.

It's not wireless, you connect by ethernet cable in the villas and I believe it is only free for DVC members.

The free internet only went into affect a couple of weeks ago. Every report that I have heard so far is if the unit is booked with points, then the internet is included. If it is booked through the CRO, or via cash, then the internet is not free. There are probably no guarantees, but this has been the collective experience to date as far as I know.

Are we left to buying a 25ft ethernet cable and leaving in out OL? Do you guys have any other suggestions for the connection?

At SSR last week, an ethernet cable was provided. It was in a cloth bag hanging in the closet.

Thank you all so much for you help. I don't know "how" I'd survive 11 days away from the DIS!!!

There's been a couple threads lately on bringing a travel router with you and creating your own wireless bubble.

When I was at AKV a few weeks ago, I overheard a CM tell a guest that there was wireless access at the pool. There's also wireless in the BC lobby and on the porch at BWV. However, I don't know if they're free for DVC members.

I just came back from staying at SSR for Memorial Day Weekend and I called the front desk and they told me it was free for DVC members staying at a DVC resort. Hope that helps.

Wireless is everywhere at WDW - but we can't use much of it. My DS, who works for WDW, plopped himself down in our BWV villa last year, opened his MacBook and hopped right on the employee wi-fi - while I sat there tethered to my expensive broadband. I looked at him and all he said was, "No, you can't." (I love him dearly, but he can be an irritating bugger at times.) Then his Blackberry went off and he had to run off and do something. Ha!

So the wi-fi is there. Maybe someday we'll get to use a little more of it.

If the reservation has you marked as DVC then you will not get charged. I had to call front desk a few weeks ago when we were there because when you connected it still said you were to be charged. But they looked up my ressie and said I was fine as it was marked as DVC (this also shows up on your room cards - DVC that is).

Hmm, we have an II exchange coming up, but we are now DVC'ers. I wonder if there is a way to get our DVC # on the reservation so we do not get charged.

According to the members site, it says:
Daily Internet charge to be discontinued effective May 4, 2008

Based on Member feedback, the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World® Resort will be discontinued effective May 4, 2008. Guests renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access charges still apply to Members staying at non-Disney Vacation Club Resorts. "

This specifically states as long as you are a member staying in a DVC location you do not pay for internet. It does not mention anything about staying on points.

I believe that if you are staying onsite in a DVC room and are a DVC member you get the free internet regardless of how you "paid" for it. I'm not saying this means that is the absolute rule but I don't think the front desk knows if you paid for it out of pocket or are staying on points.

When you check in show them your DVC member card and make sure they note it on the account. I believe that as long as your membership card name and the name of the reservation match they shouldn't have an issue with updating the ressie.

I suspect that you will be charged... but that you might get the charges reversed at check-out. I do like the advice to see if you can get this committed up front.

Also, please report back. I have a split stay (DVC points, and inbound II exchange) for a reservation later this year.
