thanks

Invisible fence brand. Installed by them. Two collars. One lifetime guarantee on a collar. Just under a thousand dollars five years ago. Dogs never leave the property even when the battery in there collar is dead. Dont care that some people claim its cruel to use. The dogs never get shocked unless they cross the fence. They get warning beep when they are within three feet of the fence. They always turn around before crossing.

Thanks ...but is the wire buried? i am looking for one that is wireless in the event we move. There are some that you plug in a transmitter and no wire. Usually the area covered is a circle and the radius can be adjusted. Just wondering if they really work.

We have purchased two systems that we installed ourselves from Innotek. We purchased our first "Ultrasmart contain n train" system about 5 years ago for our 1st house for about 400.00. We loved the system, but found that we didn't use the training portion of the collar. Our dogs learned very quickly from the flags where the boundaries were. The collars only lasted about 2 years before we had to replace them and the charge only lasted about 1 week before you had to charge overnight.

We have had our new system for our 2nd house for one year now. This time we chose the "rechargable in-ground pet fencing" from Innotek. It was less than 200.00 for 2 dogs. We have had the system for over a year now and have never had to recharge the collars! The system took us about 2 hours to install on a lot that is almost an acre. Definately a 2 person job though. We thought the hardest part was trying to figure out where to plug the system in so you could make the complete circle around the house!

Our neighbors have a Petsafe brand system and absolutely hate it! They have it at the highest setting and their dogs still run through it. They are ready to replace it with the Innotek. Look around the internet, there are several companies that sell the Innotek brand for less than you would pay directly from Innotek.

We have both a PetSafe wired and one that is Wireless. We also have two incredibly stubborn and bull-headed boxers.

We had to upgrade to the "stubborn dog" collar, after five years, because one of my guys figured the shock wasn't that bad and started chasing cars out of the driveway!! :scared1: The new collar has stopped that behavior and everyone is safe again.

We live on a very busy road, and these fences do the trick!

From what I understand they work pretty good. You just need to make sure that the collars are charged up regularly. For some reason the dogs dont seem to learn the borders as well as they do with the buried wire so they are more likely to leave the area when the battery in there collar is dead or if the transmitter goes haywire. You also need to place the transmitter in a spot where the perimeter does not extend into a neighbors yard or the street. And yet you will want the perimeter to include your house unless you want to remove the collars everytime the dogs come in and back on before they go outside. The signal goes out in a circle, so placing the transmitter in a spot that covers your backyard and the house without extending into your neighbors property may not be possible. If you have multiple dogs you need to set the transmitter correction to the level that handles the dog that needs a higher level of correction. With the buried wire, the correction level is set in the collar. That's why we went with the buried wire. But we didnt plan to move either so portability was not a deciding factor for us.

I would love to try this with my dogs. A friend had one that they took on camping trips.

We use an invisible fence. The wire is buried, but not deep (I finally convinced by husband airating the lawn wasn't a great idea). The package we bought came with training. I don't remember how much it was, but since it depends on the size of your yard, you probably want a quote anyway. Our dog has been great with it, but he's an easy dog. Invisible Fence did guarentee he'd yard train if we did the training with them or they'd refund.

We have the Petsafe wireless system. I love it, although we actually don't even use it anymore because the dog is so well trained now.

First of all, not every dog is suited to an invisible fence. Some dogs will take any shock to get out, and other dogs are so traumatized by it, it's just cruel. However, I think most dogs do just fine with proper training.

Things to note on the wireless. There is no in/out boundary. Once out of bounds, the collar will continue to shock until the dog returns (up to 30 seconds), as opposed to a wired fence, where a dog can end up stuck on the other side of the fence.

The boundary is not as clearly defined as a wired fence....it will fluctuate by a few feet I have found.

It is useless for people with very narrow lots, as it is a circle, and the transmitter is the center. Also, supposedly it is not good for people with uneven land, however we have a full walk out basement (big slope) and it worked fine for us.

The fence will not keep other critters out. If you have issues with other roaming dogs, something to think about.

The transmitter is pretty large, it says it is suitable for dogs 8 lbs and up, but I would not put it on an 8 lb dog. However, the shock starts very mild, I tried it out and it definitely was not painful.

I think I paid around $300 for the system, but I'm honestly not sure, this was a couple of years ago. The batteries are cheaper online than in store, and we also bought the system on Amazon.

My dog is honestly a little on the stupid side. The average training they said was 2 weeks, but my dog took over 3. It is important to clearly flag the area so they understand where is safe and where is not (just follow the training instructions). She is a big great dane and always listened just fine on the most mild shock, but it terrified her at first and she refused to come off of the porch. I spent hours with her walking/training the boundaries and she finally got the idea...now she absolutely does not leave the yard and she hasn't worn the collar in months.

We had one for our dog. It kept him in the yard. He had a collar that would continue to give a shock until he came back in the yard. He got shocked twice after that he never attempted to leave. Though I will say that it was awful to see him get shocked. I felt so bad. Most of the time it wasn't even plugged in as he learned quickly where his collar would begin to beep (without the shock) and he would stay a couple feet away from that boundary. He was a good dog man, I miss him. Our neghbors have an underground fence that dog figured out that if he lays on the boundary and let the collar beep long enough the battery will die and then he can come accross. He also dug holes and dug up the wire and broke it. After calling the company that installed it several times to fix the broken wire, our neighbors gave up. The dog would come here to play with mine. Now he comes down for biscuits.

We have both the Innotek and the Petsafe. One is for indoors and one is for outdoors. The collars are compatable(be sure to check for the correct models). The indoor are great for keeping the dogs out of areas you don't want them to enter.

I have the Invisible Fence Brand as wall. Installed by the company. If you were to move, you take the collars and the inside equipment with you. Leave the buried wire and just have new installed at the new house. The wire is cheap; it is the other stuff that is expensive.

A different opinion..

I don't like electrical fences. I have a friend who's dog died because of one. An animal came into her yard while she was showering. Her dog was outside with the collar on. Her dog couldn't get away. The other animal had no collar. It killed her dog.

Just remember, your dog is trapped with an electrical fence. With no protection for them.

I would never use one of this. Twice I have seen the collars that didn't work the right way and the dog keep getting shock causing to run away and no one could get them because the poor dog was freaking out. To me if you are going to spend money in something like that it seems much better use of the money in getting good training classes. I would recommend you try the dog collar in your hand and see how it feels then think that usually the dog is half your size. :confused3

I work at out City's shelter and we get a dog about once a month or so that has taken the shock to get out of their yard. I would say it depends a lot on your dog's personality and mind set, as well as what a PP said about you training them. I personally wouldn't use one because I would be too afraid of what would happen if it failed or as someone else said, another dog came on to the property and my dog couldn't get away.

I paid almost the same amount to get my dog trained it was great to just mention a specific word and she knew immediatly what I needed her to do, she was a great dog:sad1:.
