Nope it's not broadband. Last I checked it looked to be about a T1.
The service is not provided by Disney. There is a local ISP who provides the connectivity and they charge back to the resort somehow which then shows up on your bill. If you are a
DVC member the charges are waved. (I suspect DVD negotiated a better bulk rate for us.)
You should have enough bandwidth "to check e-mail."
I tried to sync about 10GBs of photos back to my house, and I got it done, but it took a while (I was using rsync though a ssh tunnel, so it could restart without an issue.)
I have 20 Mbit/s to/from my house, when I looked at tcptraceroute, it looked like the uplink from the resort was the slow link. (I saved the diagnostics I did somewhere, if I could find them I would post them.)
