Winter Workouts - Dec. 2022 W.I.S.H. Thread

Winter is motivating my to slow down and be observant. That's the only way to not bust your butt on ice right? Pay attention so you see it and then proceed slowly.

We had the first snow of the season last night, just over an inch. While we were out my MIL was with the kids. She said DD looked out the window then went to her device and found/said SNOW. Very impressed that not only she knew the word but was able to navigate through all the sub-folders to find it all on her own.

Had DH's office shindig last night. Was a good time but every time I socialize with his co-workers my self esteem takes a bit of a hit....news people are by and large petite and pretty. Anyway rather than letting that hit rush me into some unsustainable diet/exercise routine I am going to slow it down. Try to return to mindful eating and get extra steps in in subtle ways....parking further away from the door....going to the bathroom or water dispenser that isn't the closest etc. And news just hit that my department will be moving to another building that is massive and multiple floors so that will force more movement. Plus really good excuse to buy some new shoes since my knee high boots are on their last legs (pun sort of intended) and I have not had a comfy pair of pumps since pre-covid!

TOPIC TUESDAY:

Do you know your bra size... and does it even matter?

I think we've all heard the statistic that 80% of women aren't wearing the right bra size, but did you know this isn't true (and that this statistic was created by a man without actually interviewing any women for their input)? Bra size isn't the issue, it is fit. There is no standardized sizing for bras, fit can vary greatly from brand to brand and from style to style. There's also no standardization to women's bodies, so all we can do is try them on... over and over again, until we find the fit that works best for us. A good fit is based on comfort, coverage and support.

More important to know:
... what is the average lifespan for a bra? Six to nine months!

... how many bras should you own? Best practice is to have three in your regular rotation.
... is it OK to sleep in you bra! Yes it is, altho who would want to, right?

... does your bra need to be washed after each wearing? No, not unless it gets sweaty or otherwise soiled.

Have you ever been fit for bras - how was that experience? Do you have a favorite brand that you keep going back to? And fess up, what is the oldest bra you currently own and use?

As part of my pre-vacation shopping blitz I had decided to get a few new bras, so this topic has been on my mind a lot lately.

I had breast reduction surgery back in 2001 and was measured and fit at that time... and continued to wear the same size bra for the next 20+ years, despite changes in weight. So the first bras I ordered were that size and man were they wrong. I read up on how to measure properly and decided to go up a band size and down a cup size and found two that were acceptable... that's two out of a dozen that were purchased and returned. And based on additional reading I've done since, that was kind of a lucky coincidence.

One of my pet peeves about bras is when the "plus size" minimizer styles are narrow under the arm and in the back, where they only have three hooks... support comes from the band, not the straps. The brand and style I ended up liking the best is the Honeylove Cross-over. I love how wide they are under the arms, holding in all the "dodgy bits":

And I will confess... the oldest bra in my collection was 5+ years. It's gone now.

My motivation is to try not to gain too much weight since I’m not really following NOOM right now. I know I gained something because my tightest jeans are uncomfortable, but the rest of my clothes feel fine. In January I will get back to it. I just want to make the most of this special time of year and celebrate.

My oldest bra is OLD and falling apart...it's my around the house model. I need new ones but am too lazy. Plus not sure about anyone else but since covid stores can be tough for me. Had a similar situation after maternity leave with DD...the lights were too bright there were too many options...I got overwhelmed and dizzy had to leave. I'll probably have to go the purchase and return route.

I go with push-ups so they aren't hanging around my knees and it's hard to find comfortable ones...Had some luck with candies brand awhile back. Plus with push ups like...ok we all want to feel pretty but I don't need sheer patches or a jewel in the middle to go to the supermarket you know?

Iliza Sheslinger has an amazing bit about old bras and shopping on her latest Netflix special. Highly recommended even if her comedy in general isn't your style that section is awesome.

Unfortunately the days of pretty push-up bras purchased from Victoria’s Secret ended 25 years ago when DD was born. Nursing bras took over for a year, and when it was time to wear my regular bras again, they were too small. VS doesn’t carry DDD. I discovered Bali underwire bras and have worn them since. My size only comes in three boring colors…nude, black, and white. Within 6 months the underwire inevitably breaks and stabs me in a sensitive area, so I always have a couple extra for when that day comes. I get them on Amazon because there’s always a deal for these overpriced, unattractive, uncomfortable torture devices most definitely designed by an angry man. I used to LOVE lingerie. Now it’s just something I must wear in public so as not to offend anyone, and the FIRST thing to come off at the end of the day when I walk in the door.

I hate bras. They never fit right. No matter how tight I make the straps, they always fall. Over Covid I switched the ones that clasp in the front, so the straps don't fall. However now the straps show around the neck in some outfits. I have never been fitted and I don't even know where I would go. When I was younger I was pretty small so I would get the push up ones to make me look bigger. Then I got pregnant and I they never went back down and then I have gained wait. I am like 2 sizes bigger then when I was in my early 20's. I did just find a sports bra that I love. It is so comfortable. It is one that I just pull over my head. It isn't super tight either. I need to get more of them. Plus I don't think the straps show at the neck either. Oh and my oldest. I don't even know. I do not buy them often. The last ones I bought were over covid but I still have some from before covid. I wouldn't be surprised if I have some closer to 10 years old.

Ahhhhhhhh bras!

Since COVID I have worn sports bras, almost everyday. I have been home for almost 3 years now so my bra life has changed for sure. I love Ziya brand sports bras and I know a friend who sells it so I have 3 and just rotate them.

I used to be much larger than I am now and Soma was my go to for supportive underwires. I would get measured there when I would go in for new bras and try some on a buy one or two a year.

I did purchase this month a non underwire but supportive bra from Aarie. My daughter was trying stuff on and my sister in law said it was her favorite bra and she was grabbing a new one so I tried it on and I like it! So that’s my “go out of the house” bra now LOL.

Yes, yes, yes to everything y'all have written! I quit wearing underwires maybe eight or so years ago, and kept re-buying the same bra style/brand, which is why I think I got away with also getting the same size.

In one of the articles I've read the author said she finally went to a fancy lingerie store to be fitted and found three bras that she was happy with - all completely different band and cups sizes, like not even a size up or down, they were totally different. It had never occurred to me that you could/should do this, I had assumed that if "your size" didn't fit that wasn't the bra for you.

I've only ever been "fitted" when I was buying a sports bra when I was doing a lot of running. I just couldn't find a good one! Had the gal at the locally owned sports store help me and it was the best sports bra ever. Wasn't too tight and everything stayed in place so no more black eyes! :rotfl2:

I used to get the playtex 18 hour ones but decided I hated them and why on earth did I wear them for sooooo many years?! Now I tinker with band/cup size and have ones that kinda fit and ones that don't fit. Right now I'm wearing my oldest one, but I don't know how old it is, a couple years maybe? It's comfy, though!!!

Kinda lacking in motivation these days. I'm not eating tons, but am taking a few too many bites of sweets. Fortunately WDW is right around the corner and that's pretty much all I can think about!!! DSs leave tomorrow, one in the morning and one on the red-eye. DH and I leave Saturday! The party is Sunday!!!

Tuesday -
The bras I'm currently wearing are all from this past summer. I found one I liked when my old ones became really uncomfortable, and just bought the same one in multiple colors.
I did have a fitting years ago, after I was done with nursing bras. I felt good about it at the time, but don't really want to do it again.

My woohoo today is that I am feeling better. I never got nearly as bad as DD. I was more sick to my stomach. I did get a 100 temp on Monday but that only lasted an hour or so. I woke up yesterday feeling fine. Even Monday, when I was the most sick to my stomach, after I ate was feeling a lot better. It has all been a bit weird. Weird enough that I took a pregnancy test yesterday just to make sure I wasn't pregnant. (I am woohooing this too. I did not want to start all over again though if I was I would be happy). I am not. It was just a mild case of the flu I guess.

I am also woohooing that the glucose issue I am having is nothing to worry about and that my kidneys are fine.

Woohoo... yesterday was my get-out-of-jail-free-but-with-a-mask day, as I don't have to self-isolate any longer. I went to the grocery store and to the nursery, and felt a little more human for it.

Woohoo... we're going to get a couple days without rain, there's a wee bit of blue sky out there at the moment.

@PollyannaMom hoping DS feels better!
