When I got married 17 yrs ago I told DH that we needed to start our own tradition. So the first snow fall we go out make a snowman, take lots of pictures and then i go in and make hot cocoa (homemade). I look forward to that part of winter. :D
I would like to know if anyone else has a favorite tradition?:D

Ours is more of a winter/Christmas tradition.

We always go as a family to either the Zoo Lights or somewhere you drive through and see a million or more lights stung in different shapes, etc. For the past two years, DD's BF has joined in! We also take drives and look at everyone's lights and lighted Christmas trees through their windows.

Pam what a sweet memory you are making for your children and their friends.:D

We have two that come to mind....
Like others, we enjoy driving around one evening a few days before Christmas to see the lights, there is one house in a town not far from us that really "goes all out" to decorate and they encourage people to actually walk through their yard/gardens to see everything and they have holiday music piped outdoors so it's really very magical and beautiful. The other tradition is one I do by myself, setting out my holiday village in the bay window. I just love taking everything out of the storage boxes, putting the fluffy white "snow" down and then arranging all of the buildings, and putting the finishing touches on with the people and different accessories and then lighting it up for the first time. :)

My friend and I started this tradition when we both moved into our neighborhood (about 5 years ago)........at least once during the winter, we go outside and play in the snow lol. It's just something goofy we always do, even though we're teenagers :D

When the DD was a youngster we would go look at Christmas lights and sing Christmas Carols while we were looking at all the lights. Generally, anytime we were in the car at Christmas time we would sing carols.

My winter traditions are: if it snows at night, and I have to shovel snow in the morning, I have a huge bowl of oatmeal, topped with evaporated skim milkm sugar, raisins and cinnamon. If it snow during the morning or afternoon, and I have to go out and shovel later in the day, I have a grilled cheese sandwhich and a bowl of tomato soup.

I also like to watch Dr. Zhivago on a cold, snowy day, all snuggled under a blanket, feeling in love and warm. Ahhhhh, I love that moivie anytime, but in the winter, on a cold day, it's extra special. :D :D

OOOHHHH, I can't wait for winter/Christmastime. Doesn't it just feel friendlier???

We too drive around our city looking at all the great light displays...usually we take popcorn and blankets and sing lots of Christmas songs.

The whole family heads over to Gma and Gpa's house on Christmas Eve for dinner and fun and games. We always act out the story of Jesus' birth, sing carols, and have a visit from St. Nick himself! One thing we started a few years ago was the White Elephant gift game.

My mom always kept our holiday books with the holiday decorations so it really felt like Christmas when the books would come out and we could read "The Littlest Angel" or "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". So, after my DS was born I began buying Christmas books. I buy one book, wrap it, and the kids can open it on Christmas Eve. I try to get books that have a sweet message in them and save the fun silly ones for anytime during the holidays. The kids really look forward to seeing what kind of book they'll get each year.
