I don't see CCV on the website, do I have to special request this? (As if I'm gonna buy in, but I like to dream)
No, we need you to keep renting from us!I don't see CCV on the website, do I have to special request this? (As if I'm gonna buy in, but I like to dream)
Hey you stop that now! I don't go poking around here for sane, sound financial opportunities. But even at $135pp for CCV that would be a $11k difference….![]()
Still, it’d be intriguing if the cabins ended up being thrown inThere is no way LSL will be built to the same quality of WL, IMO.
For me the subconscious is going on continuously, with occasional forays into conscious thought.I will say, the more I look at selling some of my resale CCV and buying it direct, and start to put some numbers into a spreadsheet, I do start to pull back just a bit. The price differential is still pretty big.
The question starting to come to my mind . . . how much will Disney continue to devalue resale points and/or give direct points more perks? Since I'm already blue card and own quite a few direct points, there isn't a lot I stand to gain at the moment by buying more direct points. But, how will that change in the future? The trend is certainly in one direction, but how soon and how significant will those changes be? Questions we can't really answer - so, how much gambling am I willing to do?
Of course, for these very reasons, you can see why Disney is likely to take actions to further devalue resale because they want to sell more direct points. And, if the existing perks aren't enough to entice people to go beyond a certain number of direct points, then they'll figure out a way to make it more enticing.
The cycle of subconscious rationalization will continue . . .

Unless they decide to increase point per night for the cabins if LSL is bundled with itStill, it’d be intriguing if the cabins ended up being thrown in![]()
Alright, I'll help!Hey you stop that now! I don't go poking around here for sane, sound financial opportunities.
Your points deserve to beAlright, I'll help!
Take that $11k and divide it by the 42 years remaining on a CCV contract. So, about $262/year to have points without any resale restrictions or, another $1.75/point in dues. Yes, yes, you should be doing some time value of money calculations here too but I'm trying to talk myself into this, not out of it.
Come 2042, these points won't suddenly lose a significant amount of potential usage - they will continue live on free and unrestricted! Reimagined BCV and BWV? Sure, I can stay there. Whatever other new perks for direct are introduced between now and then? Yes, I'm eligible to use these points.
I'm really going to get myself into trouble here.
Have you even closed on your most recent CCV purchase? On LSL, I just don't see anything to make me interested to wait. Resort is likely to be massive with a lot of points to sell. I think it's going to be somewhere between RIV and PIT in terms of points charts (with similar types of rooms). Unlike when the Poly Tower opened, even if they combine it with CFW, there are not going to be these massive amounts of existing points trying to book into it like happened with PIT, so I am skeptical that availability is going to be that bad (unless you're a resort view studio/2BR lock-off sort of person). If they do combine it with CFW, I think dues are going to be on the higher side - I don't think we're talking VGF/PVB/BLT levels of dues - if it were opening today, I wouldn't be surprised to see $10/point dues. And, I think a lot of uncertainty remains with the trust structure. IOW, a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
Or, as @tx911 said, set those points free! LOL.
I'm really not sure what I'll end up doing here. Need to give this all some time.

You know what they say… “they don’t build em like they used to”.There is no way LSL will be built to the same quality of WL, IMO.
Why the difference in dues?Take that $11k and divide it by the 42 years remaining on a CCV contract. So, about $262/year to have points without any resale restrictions or, another $1.75/point in dues.
I was just saying if you take $11k (the approximate difference between direct and resale on 150 points), divide it by 42 years, and then divide that by 150, it's like you're paying an extra $1.75/point per year (ignoring time value of money). Why the difference in dues?
This is how it would work today, but there is no guarantee it will work the same way in the future!Come 2042, these points won't suddenly lose a significant amount of potential usage - they will continue live on free and unrestricted! Reimagined BCV and BWV? Sure, I can stay there. Whatever other new perks for direct are introduced between now and then? Yes, I'm eligible to use these points.
An excellent point and one that reinforces the point from @Brian Noble earlier of not trying to solve problems today that don't yet exist. The future, even 2042, is still a ways off. This is how it would work today, but there is no guarantee it will work the same way in the future!
When you think about it, is any amount really too much to spend to set your points free? Sorry, I’m enablingOn LSL, I just don't see anything to make me interested to wait. It's ok. I'm getting a good laugh out of it. And I am going to give myself a lot of time to think about this before making any decision and I think I am realistically a good ways away from deciding to do this. When you think about it, is any amount really too much to spend to set your points free? Sorry, I’m enabling![]()
