Winter Dec 25 - Jan 26 Direct Incentives

So the question I keep coming back to is …do I buy direct so I’m not locked out of the new resorts and add some points at the same time or is it not worth the premium 🤔

How much do you value it? What I can say is that I never thought a resort would top BLT for me.

And RIV did. So, you just never know what might come along that changes your mind.

For me, I won’t ever do resale again, unless it’s RIV…and even then, 900 points is more than enough to handle our current vacations with DVC.

Well, I'll answer this by saying I currently own 350 resale CCV points - a 150-pt and a 200-pt contract - and I'm going to give serious thought to selling one of those and picking up some direct CCV points. And, that's with a spread where you can probably buy resale for an average of $135/point and the direct pricing (with all incentives) is $209/point. My reasons why would be the following.

I really love RIV and will get value from more of my points being able to be used there should I want to.

With LSL on the horizon, I wouldn't mind having more direct points that can be exchanged there. I think LSL is going to be quite large and be somewhat easy to exchange into at the 7-month mark. I also think there is a good chance LSL gets combined with CFW and the dues are going to start out higher than CCV. If I keep my resale CCV, I can't use those points there.

CCV is one of the O14 resorts, so it is likely to retain more of its value on the resale market. That lowers the risk proposition. Buying direct RIV/VDH/CFW/LSL has that larger sunk cost and I wouldn't flip O14 resale into direct points at one of those resorts unless I was very confident about long-term ownership.

Direct benefits - well, I already have my blue card, so I don't need it. More direct points gives me more options - cruise exchanges (not a great value, but I may consider it at some point), AP purchases with points through MMB (pretty great value actually). I think this trend is going to continue. Disney is going to find more and more incremental ways to make resale less enticing. If I am confident about keeping my points for the long-term, I'm willing to pay a premium for direct to hedge against that.

If you plan to own for a long time, particularly after the 2042 expiration, then your resale points will have far fewer exchange options as time goes on. So keep that in mind. Over the long term most of your money will be in dues. The only money you save with resale is the delta between resale and direct at time of purchase - ongoing costs are exactly the same, you just have restrictions on your points if you buy resale.

CCV is doing really well for sellers currently. Id say if you want to sell and pickup direct now is the time to do it. I would likely sell the 150 not the 200. Or list both at a premium price and see which sells first at a price you are comfy with. Time to start researching new credit card deals...

Tempting rational. I have a 100 and 175. Posting for a premiums to see if you get a nibble isn’t a bad idea 🤔

That was my initial thought, sell the 150 and buy 150. But, now my mind has drifted to buy 300, sell the 200, and keep the resale 150. So, then I "wash" my 200 points and get another 100. But, I probably need to think a bit more strategically about the best way to sell if I'm going to go this route. I was thinking, well, I'll buy the direct points and then wait until after my trips next year to sell, but I suppose I could always list with delayed closings and see if anything takes. Hmmmm. You've really got me thinking now.

It is good to see incentives for CCV. I've been thinking of getting a small CCV contract, but I really forgot that the base PPP for CCV is $255🤯.

That super high base is what ultimately put the nail in coffin for my purchase of 25 points when they lowered the minimum. I know they will raise base prices next year but wondering if they will raise CCV specifically.
