Hello Fellow DVC DIS'ers! :)

We had planned a trip for December of this year and checked the Local County Calendars to find out when Winter Break was (School let's out, etc) and found that it listed December 22nd as the last day of classes. Seeing that, we booked for the week before hoping things would be a little less ... well ... frantic at the parks / MVMCP / etc ...

Well, our plans changed somewhat and we have an additional party joining us, so we tried to book something [anywhere] on property for the weekend of the 15th and everything was slam booked.

I know December is a busy DVC Time typically, but considering that everything appears booked solid, I was wondering if perhaps we weren't as smart as we thought we were in booking our dates?

Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated. Especially if you've been there in the past during that first week when school is out (or the week before school let's out).

Many Thanks in Advance! Happy Holidays! pixiedust:

I know in my son's elementary school, alot of people will take their kids out of school for those last couple of days before the Holiday break (last day Wed 12/20). I took my son out of school Monday & Tuesday before Thanksgiving and we weren't the only ones. I usually help with the Holiday party, last day before break and for 6 years (including preschool) there has been any where from 2-6 kids already gone. If I really had a hankering to do Disney at the Festive season, that's what I would do, since I wouldn't be there for the actual holiday.

I think the December guest climate at WDW is changing drastically. The cost is lower, so people are taking their kids out of school earlier to take advantage of the lower cost. There are a lot of large gatherings in early to mid December as well.

I guess I should have stuck with the first two weeks rule ... :(

Hopefully it won't be too packed ;)

I have a 4th grader and seeing what he has to do and what happens during the short weeks before Thanksgiving and Xmas, I have no problem yanking him out. I wouldn't yank him for a full week though.

My son's teacher had to start giving spelling tests on Thursday pm, instead of the usual Friday, because so many of the class leaves early that day. Where they are going I have no clue.

I think it may be that you were trying to book the weekend. A lot of people head to WDW to get in the holiday spirit -- all the events, Mickey party, etc. It makes sense that a weekend would be booked -- I bet a lot of local Floridians and others who can drive head there for the weekend. I know I would!
