We are going to be in Winnipeg for a few days in September and are looking for good cheap places to eat. Does any one have any suggestions?

What do you consider cheap and what do you consider good? Winnipeg has all the standard chains. I'd stay away from the Swiss Chalet, though. Tiny birds, big prices.

Gondola Pizza has been there for 50+ years, if you like that. They have an Olive Garden near Polo Park, next to the Red Lobster. If you're down at the Forks, there are a couple of places that are unique, quaint and nice. If you're looking for a hot dog at the Forks, you can't go wrong with Skinner's foot longs.

Whereabouts are you going/staying in Winnipeg?

Well they don't have to be cheap just good, but we like to go to the places the locals go. Nothing fancy we just want casual. We are staying at Best Western Plus Pembina Inn and Suites. We will have our 11yo daughter with us too so family friendly would be nice.

I'm from Winnipeg and live in the South end of the city. Our favourite casual places are George's Burgers on St. Mary's, Santa Ana Pizza also on St. Mary's (a bit more expensive but tremendously good), Dairywhip on Marion, and Bodegoes on Albert (in the exchange).

There's a Tony Roma's just up the street on Pembina, near the Tim Horton's. Osborne Village is a trendy area that will have some nice restaurants, as well. That's further up Pembina, around "Confusion Corner". I wish I could be of more help, but when I'm there, it's usually for family events and Mom's a great cook.

Thank you.

No worries. My dh is Canadian and will be so happy there is a Tim Horton's close by. We don't have them where we live currently.

Oh yes! My mom and sister love Mongos and I think it's fairly close to your hotel. It's over by Kenaston and McGillivray.

I wouldn't bother with Sals. It's mainly a coffee shop for seniors.

Oak wood Cafe on Osborne is great. During the summer months take a short 20 minute drive north to Lockport and go to Half Moon or Skinners.
Santa Lucia on St Mary's at Marion is great.
Also the pavilion at Assiniboine Park.
Stella's - the one on Sherbrook.

Another vote for Stella's. It's a local chain and they use local food. We love it and used to go there every time we went to Winnipeg.

I go to Winnipeg twice a year - for a week each time. I always stay at the Best Western Pembina Inn & Suites (Fantastic Hotel!). Within walking distance you have Stella's (which is good food), and also "Garbonzo's" Restaurant (Italian) - They have a decent food special each day. Pizza Pizza is right next door to the hotel for ultra cheap food. There is also Tony Roma's within walking distance, but I've found that the food is expensive.
