I would like to book a DVC vacation just to utilize the resort (for once). I have only stayed at OKW to date and was looking for advice from DVC vets. Which resort has the best pool/recreation facilities?

I like Beach Club Pool the best. I dont think they build one like that again. I also like walking around the lake, can eat at BW resturants from BCV

I haven't seen any yet, but with any pool, it's dependent on what you want from a pool.

So what are your criteria that would make up a good pool?

Stormalong Bay, at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club, is hands down the best pool of all the resorts.

See, everyone always says SAB at the BCV, but for us, it was our least favorite! Even our kids didn't like it. Personally I don't like that you have to walk out of the pool area to acess the slide entrance. my kids hated the sand bottom because they said it wasn't soft like real sand.:confused3. I didn't mind it. I just don't think it is all it is hyped up to be. I do love the BW area so BCV is great because of it's location.

As a family our favorite has to be the new Kidani Village pool area at AKV. There is a kids slide and a bigger one. The area is a great size with lots of chairs in the sun and shaded areas. You can get room service delivered there and there is a bar with yummy drinks, snacks and some food items. The pool is zero entry and a perfect size. they do activities and have a DJ at certain times. The water play area for the kids is the best! We all had a great time there!(our kids are 12 and 7) The best thing about AKV is if you are not going to any parks(which is what we often do on our stays at this resort) there is so much to do. Activities, animals, community hall, game room, tours, shops, great food, and so much more. It's the perfect resort for a "no parks" trip, IMHO.;)

I do have to add that we also really liked the pool area at SSR. The main pool area is great, but the Grandstand area was a lot of fun for the kids.

DH and I are going on an adults only, no parks trip in a few days. for us we are looking forward to our stay at SSR to enjoy swimming in the pool in the Congress Park section. Love that pool and the view of DtD. We love it there for the location to DtD, room decor, food, and the pools.

I love the lazy river part of SAB. I know it's not lazy, it's deep and there are currents. It keeps me happy for hours! I never even tried the other pars of the pool until early this month, when I was with a DF who wasn't as enthusiastic as I was about that part. We laughed in the whirlpool section. Our DGC love the slide.

My vote for the best quiet pool, would be the Spring Pool at VWL. I love the bubbles! I love to go there early in the morning, and admire the trees and glorious surroundings.

That Congress Park pool gives a wonderful view of DTD. If there were a prize for best city view, that's my choice!

SAB is my favorite with both of the pools at WL coming in second and third.

See how opinions differ? SAB is hands down the worst pool at all the resorts in my opinion. I hate the sinking sands. I hate the 8' depth that you come up on very suddenly. I hate the fast current that can drag you out into the 8' water. And I hate the fact that it's nearly impossible to find two or three chairs together. And forget about getting a table. But my husband and son like SAB.

I much prefer the leisure pools at OKW, the adult pool at CR (stay at BLT and use that pool). By the way, I call it an adult pool because it is not themed and deeper in the center - it's like a bullseye. The Dunes Cove pool at BCV is also pretty nice.

Everytime we used the pool by the villas at VWL, the heater has been off and the water was cold or the hot tub wasn't working.

My family just loves everything about the Beach Club Resort Area. SAB, movies on the beach, clambake and the nice quiet walk to BCV thru the courtyard.

Another vote for SAB!! Our trip to BCV was the only trip where we actually had a "down day" and spent all day just hanging out at the pool until evening. DS loved it. The slide LOOKS cool but it didn't win any votes (it's bumpy / rough inside). The pool was great tho. And lots of activites going all the time too.

As far as DVC Resorts, Storm Along Bay at Beach Club is great. For a quieter and more relaxing pool, I really like the pool at Old Key West.:cool1::banana:

I have to agree SAB is the best. Although not for everyone for the reasons listed by other posters. If you do have younger kids it is something to think about only due to the fact that you have to leave the pool area to get on the slide. For older kids I think it wins hands down. My kids have loved it since they were little and even more now because as teenagers they will leave together and head over to the Boardwalk for awhile while my husband and still lounge at the pool. What ever you decide, you will enjoy it!

Okay, you've gotten lots of opinions on the pool and only a little about recreation facilities. The spa a SSR is considered one of the best in the U.S. The main pool is very popular with families. Also SSR is building a second recreational pool at the Paddock but I believe that doesn't open until 2012.

Unless you are staying at BLT, AKV or BCV the pools at these resorts are not available for pool hopping. If you stay at AKV you can use either the Kidani pool or the Jambo House pool, same with the exercise facilities.

A good source for looking at the resorts pools, recreation facilities and amenities is the WDW website, accommodations. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/hotels/

Oops! You meant AKV. (I know, sometimes I get confused with all the abbreviations as well).

My kids love the pools at Kidani, SSR, OKW and BCV the best. Slides are a must for DD11.

As much as we enjoyed the pool at BCV, I think my vote would go to AKV. You get both Kidani and Jambo House pools. Plus, they have tons of other stuff to do - not just animal viewing all over the place, but other organized activities as well. Plus, recreational courts outside Kidani.
