Another poster (thanks, Doug Wolfe!) mentioned this on the DVC forum, and I thought it was such a great idea, I'd like to share.

Go to http://www.winndixie.com and sign up online for their Rewards card. They'll mail it out to your home in 7-10 days.

As a DVC member, I like to buy some groceries for our visit, and even without a kitchen, many folks do a grocery stop for water and breakfast foods. I don't have Winn Dixies in NH, but FL also doesn't have the same grocery chains I use at home. There is a new Winn Dixie near Downtown Disney, so when we get there, we'll be ready to save a few more $$$.

Hope this helps a few of you.

In case you don't have time for them to mail it to you, you can fillout the application and get the card immediately in the store. It just takes a minute.

We love the new Winn-Dixie about a mile from Crossroads (turn left instead of straight from Hotel Resorts Blvd). I found they had good prices, way better than Goodings. We did stop in Goodings for something quick last month and walked back out, then drove to W-D. Winn-Dixie sold a 12 pack of Dasani for $3.99, Goodings wanted over $6.00! All their stuff was overpriced. We used to drive to the Super Walmart on 192, but Winn-Dixie is closer and less crowded.

Yes, every little bit helps with the grocery spending!

I applied for the WD card in January just before our trip and it came witin a week or so.

We loved this card!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

We were first staying in Cocoa Beach and wwere checking out at this store in March, when the lady said to fill out the form and she gave us our card right away (we actually got 2 cards and 2 key- chain type cards) we gave the other cards to our family that were with us and they used it all through our 3 1/2 week stay in Florida. We also used it at the new Winn-Dixie in Lake Buena Vista too. Saved a bundle!:D

I love the Winn Dixie up from Crossroads. It is a full-selection grocery just like back home, with "normal" prices. They even have an aisle of inexpensive souvenirs. We shop here every visit. I just keep the little discount card in the glove box of my van and it's ready for me when I need it.

It only took a minute or two to get the card!

I've never been to a store in which either the cashier couldn't use a "house card" or the person behind me in line wouldn't loan me a card to use.

If all else fails ANY store will give you a temp card on the spot.

Lewisc, I'm sure you are correct, and I think it's great that folks can still find savings that way, but I get lots of fun out of my pre-trip planning. :D

Getting the Winn Dixie rewards card in the mail won't be quite as exciting as receiving my room confirmation, but it will be one more item to slip into my Passporter, and a few minutes less spent on mundane details once I am actually in FL! :p

AND! I noticed yesterday that the Florida Entertainment book has coupons for $5.00 off if you spend $50.00. (One per month) It's easy to spend $50.00 in groceries these days... snacks and water/soda alone would do it.

Nothing wrong with a little planning. I just wanted people without a card to know how they can get the discounts.

Actually, I think the store set the policy on using these cards, Lewisc. At the Food Lion chian, the "policy" is that you ahve to have your own card. The cashiers used to ahve cards lying around that they would scan, but they were supposed to stop doing that. Theya re also not supposed to let you use someone else's (if they just hand it to you right there. Don't know if all stores actually follow this, though (the one nearest my house does), but it is the "policy".

I guess they set that policy so they can get as many addresses to sell as possible!!!

Don't know if WD has that rule or not because I rarely shop there locally. It's too out of the way and other stores have better prices (Food Lion, Lowe's Foods, Kroger (just sale prices) and Harris teeter (just sale prices) ).
