Help! We have a 10 day reservation at the CR (in a wing room)with a large group. We stayed in the North Wing last summer and really enjoyed it. However, I have always wanted to stay in the Tower. The rest of the group doesn't want to upgrade. Is the Tower worth the extra $$ and do you think it would be rude to leave the other families in the Wings?? Also, would you upgrade for the whole stay or just part of it? Thanks in advance!!

Personally, I would not stay at CR unless I was in a Tower Room. The view from either side is incredible (but the Magic Kingdom side especially). To me that's what staying at CR is all about, so I definitely think it's worth the money.

If you really want to do, go ahead and change the rez. If you are on the fence than keep your current rez and politely ask about an upgrade when you check in, if it's a slower time, you might get it.

ITA with dznyntnh...

I stayed in the North Wing and regretted not staying in the tower because it is so much more magical... I would only want to stay at the CR again if it was in the tower, especially with a MK view.

mariamouse :)

Im staying for the first time at the CR in a tower room and the reason for that is I have a feeling I would regret if I stayed in the wing rooms. Once the people you are going with see your tower room might regret their decision not to change either. This is only if you all can afford it. Put it this way I will be broke for a while after this trip. Maybe someone can send you a picture or you can find one somewhere of both views from both bthe wing rooms and the tower room and make your desicion that way.

IMHO, the wings and the tower are two different resorts - if you can swing the tower then do so. It is more than worth the extra $$. We actually did what you are thinking of once - stayed in the wing part of our stay and then moved to the tower. We loved the tower so much that every trip after that we stayed in the tower.

ITA- if you can afford it, Tower rooms are really worth it! We stayed in a North Wing room our first time at the CR, and the kids took one look at the main building , well, there was just no comparison. Have a great trip whatever you decide, the CR is our favorite resort:D

If you can afford it, the tower is the way to go. I stayed with my grandmother the first time that I was ever in WDW and it was so awesome to wake up and look out your window and see the MK in all its glory. :D

The view from the inside Wing rooms is of the pool area, playground, beach, boat launch. From the outside of the South, you look at the canal the boats use to get from the lakes. Not sure of the north view, but it looks towards MK. Since its only 2 or 3 stories, you wont see much over the trees.

I'm staying in a tower rom at the CR for the first time Columbus weekend. I was disappointed I couldn't get a ressie at BC, but I'm looking forward to trying something new.

I also think the wings are underrated! They are usually much quieter...if you're in the Tower and on one of the floors just above chef mickeys be prepared to musically "celebrate with Mickey Mouse" every 20 minutes or so from about 7 am LOL. or at least hear the happy tots below doing so. I happen to love that noise when I'm at WDW but some people like to sleep in on vacation.

Also some families don't like the 'grand central station' feel of the tower. I love the energy in both the tower and the calm of the wing rooms.

If you're on a higher floor than the noise isn't so much an issue. It is more convienient to get to the monorails if you're in the Tower. But it can be more convenient to get to the pool/quick service food/arcade from the wings, so it all depends on what is important to your family.

I was shocked when I asked my child if she wanted me to try to get a tower room for our next trip and she said she didn't want to be "up high"! she wanted to stay in the wing! And this is a kid who has previously stayed in the main building at GF and the CR tower before: the wings are her very first choice and my DH's too.

Now...if they offered us an upgrade to the tower for free...I'd try to talk her into it. LOL :)

As far as whether the OP should leave their group in the wings, that's a decision only they can make. If you're going to travel with in-laws or someone else who will be greatly offended by it, it might not be worth it to make the trade off. But if they are easy going and not likely to care (or pout the rest of your trip!) then go for it! It's your vacation too after all!

IMO you just can't go wrong staying at the Contemporary, wing or tower.

I staying in the tower as a child, and injoyed it b/c you could see the monorail coming in and out and I would stand outside my door and watch it whenever I had the chance. That's really the only difference I noticed.

Me and my whole family parents, sister, niece and nephew and we had a GREAT time! we had a room on the side of the water facing away from the MK and the view was beautiful! we were on the second floor and slept with the sliking doors open to enjoy the view and the sounds. If you want a patio however, request the first floor b/c the upper floors do not have balconies!

We took the money we saved on the room and had a couple of really nice dinners! If you do stay in one of the wings, ask for a room closer to the tower so you have easy access to the monorail. and don't forget you can walk to the MK in about 7 minutes! which made it very easy to run back to the room if you forget something! Also request the wing that is closest to the MK, that way you are closer to the bus stops!

I would definately save the money and splurg the rest! Enjoy!!!

Before becoming DVC members in 1992, we stayed at CR many times, always in one of the wings. They are much quieter and more relaxed. We always had a pretty nice view of gardens or the lake and were within an easy walking distance to the pools or the boats heading over to Fort Wilderness and Discovery Island (this was the 80's ;) ). We preferred spending the extra $$$ on food or recreation. I can't say I feel deprived - I'm sure the tower rooms are exceptionally nice, but the main tower seemed too noisy for me. We spent plenty of time at 'Top of the World' for that wonderful view!

OK, so let's break this down simplier (for me...lol). Am I right in saying:

If you want a good view of the castle, get a tower room

If you want a balcony, get a wing room

Do they have good castle view rooms with a balcony???

TIA

Mary

Wing rooms do not have balconies, only sliding doors to a railing blocking the opening. If you stay on the first floor wing, you get a patio.

I'm not sure if you can see the castle, but I don't think so.

Yes, the MK side of the tower has a view of the castle.

No, balconies are part of all TOWER rooms and only the upper garden rooms.

Yes, the MK side of the tower has castle views and balconies.
