I love white wines. I can't do reds due to migraines.....
I love Chenin Blanc. Found a nice one from Devin Cellars that I really like. I like alot of others too. Nothing really sweet. I like more of a dry wine. I don't know much about wines, but am sure willing to learn
I never used to drink wine, but was introduced to good wines on my first cruise. Have been a wine drinker ever since

THis is a great discussion. I wish I lived near a big city where I could go to tastings, but, alas, out here in the boonies we don't get that experience.

What Cote Du Rhones do you like? I had my first one last month in NYC at a French restaurant. It was selected by one of the other women that I was with. She got mad because I got to select the wine at lunch. Everyone liked my selection at lunch, but no one commented on her selection for dinner.

So, having tried an ok one, I could tell that this wine had a real possibility, although the bottle she selected fell a little flat.

So, please recommend something for me to buy that will make me say, "ahhh..."

RUDisney, we could do some damage together. A girl after my own pallate, sophistocated too. Do you like Francis Ford Coppola's? Red, of course, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot are my favs.

Coppola's reds are intense and wonderful. He does a really good cabernet franc and a great zin. Heck, even his low-priced Rosso is very good. I really want to try his rubicon. I've been kicking myself in the butt since my DH and I were at his winery in 2000. I could have bought a taste, but at $25 for the glass, my cheapness kicked in. I am not always the brightest bulb in the box and have been mad at myself since.

Now, OTOH, his whites are awful, IMHO.

I like Coppola's reds too. I love the Rosso red table wine...we can get it here in CA for $5.99 a bottle, and its fabulous wine for that price!

I like chardonnay(sp?) and Riesling, Merlot and a few other reds I have tried (do not know the names!). I know absolutely zilch about wine - but really like it! Usually, when in a nice rest., I get the chef's recommended wine pairing, or sometimes ask the waiter to recommend something. Wish I knew more!!

RUDisney, E. Guigal makes a great Cotes du Rhone for about $11.99 a bottle. Morrell Wine Store in Rockefeller Center says this about it: "One of the best inexpensive red wines made anywhere on earth. Rich, warm, full-bodied and admirably concentrated." It's one of my personal faves.

Most any Merlot is good to me but Sutter Home makes a very reasonbly priced great tasting one. They also have a white merlot that is good for those seeking a sweeter version of merlot.

I have to stop at lunch to buy a bottle of marsala for my chicken tonight and I'll definitely try to find the E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone. Hopefully, the store I'm going to will have it since I'm not going to the *good* store. It's far too dangerous for me to go to the *good* store.

I'd like to recommend to anyone who likes a sweeter, dessert wine, Rosenblum Black Muscat. It was recommended to me before Christmas at the *good* store by its sommelier. It is rich, smooth and sweet without being over the top sweet. A very nice dessert wine. I'm going to see about getting another bottle of that at lunch, too.

I'm open to try any wine. I like red and white wines, and what I drink really depends more on what I'm eating.

For Pinot Grigio lovers, I'd recommend a Pinot Gris from Oregon. It has a bit more body that Pinot Grigio, and they tend to be priced well. I've heard that Oregon makes the best Pinot Gris, and I think I agree (although California ones are also pretty good).

suzannen and RUDisney: I agree E. Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone is very good. I also like Saint Cosme "Les Deux Albion" Cote-du-Rhone. It costs an extra 4 or 5 bucks a bottle, though.

I loved this book! It was very informative, but not pretentious at all. It's written by a husband and wife team.

I prefer a good full bodied, smokey, buttery chardonay. My favorite is J Lohr Riverstone Arroyo Seco. My next favorite is Quails Gate Family Reserve.

I also like a good merlot, preferably on the fruitier side. I don't really have a favorite, I enjoy several, and really don't care for quite a few.

Reisling is too light bodied for my tastes, and Cab's are much too tannic for me.

If I want something a little lighter than a chardonay, Conundrum would be my choice
