Wine tag comments reminded me.. A question about liquor..

We're not drinkers, so I haven't stepped foot in a liquor store since I purchased a gift for someone back in 1995.. I do remember seeing some very, very small bottles of liquor near the register..

I have several recipes (some baking - some meats) that I would like to try while I'm up to the lake this year.. However, I don't want to purchase big bottles of liquor for the small amounts the recipes call for..

What I will need is:

Sherry
Rum
Brandy
Amaretto

Does anyone know if these are available in those really small bottles?

And if they aren't, any suggestions on non-alcoholic substitutions?

Don't know about substitutes, but (at least in SC) we have minibottles available at liquor stores. our local bars and restaurants just went to free pour a few years ago. we are a little behind the times!

Rum definitely comes in the tiny bottles and I would imagine that the others do as well.

I've seen airline bottle (mini) sizes of rum, brandy and amaretto. You may have a problem getting a small bottle of sherry--the smallest I have seen are half bottles (roughly 13 oz.). Just a suggestion, since sherry will keep once opened, purchase a half bottle if you must, and stow the leftovers in the fridge--they will keep, opened, for a number of months. Since sherry is my favourite beverage I suggest that, before you purchase it, check your recipe and see if you need a sweet or dry sherry--sherry goes all the way from bone dry to super sweet.
