hi all! has anyone purchased wine packages with your meals? i've heard about this but i would like more info like prices & if u can purchase it before the cruise or if u need to add it to the list of things to do as soon as u board? any info would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!!!

We did the package on the 4-day and ordered it with dinner the first night. The good thing is that if you don't finish a bottle on one night, you can have it again the second. I thought it was more cost effective for the package because wine by the glass is $$, like $7.00 a glass, and that is for your basic white zinfadel.

The only down side was that we had to carry this card/menu around and present it at dinner. Maybe this has changed? and I think you could only order each bottle once.

I have never noticed or been told about any cards that need to be presented to your service team if you purchase the wine package. If you purchase a package, they bring a list of the wines associated with that package to your table each night and you select which you would like to have.

As Denise5374 said, it does seem to be less expensive than purchasing bottles or glasses by themselves. I have seen glasses of wine range from $4.50 to $17.00 and single bottles range from $25.00 to $300.

We ordered the Premium package on our seven day cruise. Our assistant server kept track of the wine and we did not have to carry a card. We did order the same bottle twice. We ordered an additional bottle at Palo, they had a much larger selection (not on the net that I have seen) since they did not seem to be able to track the package. Gratuity will be added to the listed prices. See the wine list and wine package lists here:

We managed, with four adults to easily drink it all. :crazy2:

Carla--

I'm surprised that they were unable to locate your package. I know that Palo will honor the package and that you can select from your package if you choose to eat there.

Also, the ships have a Reserve list in addition to the regular lists located on the Castawayclub site. This list is very extensive (and expensive!) and can be ordered from at any location. Any wine onboard can be ordered at any of the dining locations. On several occasions we ordered a selection that had to be retrieved from a location outside of where we were.

First, as far as prices go, I am sure that www.castawayclub.com has them, as well as the selections from each package. They offered 2 package choices on our 4 night,(you get 4 bottles) one was a basic package with okay wines, then they offered an "upgraded" package, for lack of a better term. Each had choices from reds, whites and sparkling wines. We did the basic and loved it!

They are very flexible with it....if you want 2 bottles at dinner, you can, and you don't finish them, your wait staff will have them waiting for you at your next dinner. In addition, any unopened bottles can be taken home with you. So, we enjoyed our bottle of sparkling wine about a month after we got home when we closed on our house!

I am no wine pro, but my dad who is, took a look at the selections and said the offerings from each package was good (he said he would have gotten the better package, though:snooty: ), and all in all, I think you save like 20% off if you were to purchase the bottles seperately.

As far as the card goes, we took it with us each night so we knew what our choices were. I don't remember the waitstaff doing anything with it, though. I just kept it with my KTTW card, so it was no added inconvenience at all.

I am yet to write a short reply to anything, but I hope this helps. If you like wine, it is well worth it!::yes::

Last cruise we had the Classic and shared it with our friends - it was a very nice way to have just a little wine with dinner. We liked the "Selbach - Piesporter Riesling" best - a sweet white wine.

I'm beginning to think that we may have a closer relation to one another than just our adoption one!

Riesling is my favorite non-champagne wine! Yum yum! (In fact, that's what I brought to the Wine Tasting in the Walt Suite last year!)

P.S. Very sad to hear that we won't be seeing you on the September 4th Cruise. :worried: Was looking forward to it! BUT, I'm still glad you'll be sailing even if it's not with us!!! ::yes::

thats for the website. that was great! one more question...can u purchase the package in advance or do u have to wait until you're on board? thanks for the help everyone!!!

We are cruising on the Magic on the 18th of this month and intend to order the Classic wine package, because it has the M&R Asti on it and that's are favorite. I asked about ordering it ahead of time and was told I hav to wait until we are on the boat. I'll let you know how we make out.

We looked at the wine package but decided to just order a bottle of wine when needed. Our servers still saved any leftover wine for us to have the next evening and the cost worked out better than the package would have. We also were able to pick wines we wanted and not have to be restricted to the package list.We plan to do the same ting on our next cruise.

"leftover wine" What's that????

I thought the point of a bottle of wine with dinner was toi finish it with dinner! LOL

 :jester:

Son - I knew you took after me and not those people who bore and raised you!

I'd raise a glass for a toast but it's almost bedtime and the strongest I drink right now is milk....sometimes I get risque and have BOSCO in it!!!

I was wondering, what if you go to Palo the first night...........can I purchase the wine package at palo........or does it have to be in the regular dining room.

We were having our embarkment buffet when we were approached - having another couple to share it with (drinks not the cost) was our deciding factor. So you can be approached at any time - price is the same.
