I am eating on the ddp so know that you have to pay OOP for wine, the thing is I am not al all knowedgable about wine will servers recomend wines that will complement your meal?

At MK they won't-it's dry. You may know that, but just in case you don't, it's the only park with absolutely no alcohol served.

NOTE: Almost anyone can recommend a wine for dinner. However a knowledgeable person can make the meal really be set-off by the wine selection. Example: It is easy to recommend the White Zin, but even Zin's differ enough that one is a good dinner accompaniment and the other really adds to the meal experience.

I know that at Flying Fish and Artist Point they have wine recommendations right on the menu, already paired with each menu item. I imagine it's the same at the other upscale WDW restaurants.

I'm not sure if the Disney resteraunts work this way, but at most better eating establishments they will allow you a taste before buying.

Now, as for Whines... my DD is very good at making all kinds of suggestions *sigh* - anybody need free whine?

Don't worry about picking a wine to match the food you're eating, worry about enjoying the wine for what it is! Before you go, know if you like red or white better, and know if you prefer sweet or dry. THEN ask your server for a wine pairing. For instance, if you know you like sweet white wines, then you'll know to ask "Do you have any sweet white wines that would go well with this?" Then even if the server doesn't know much about wine, you'll still get something you will really enjoy with your meal.

Most of the Disney Hotel's fine dining restaurants will have wine suggestions on the menu, or the waiter will have some knowledge of. In Epcot Center, they may have wine suggestions on the menu, but the servers are generally exchange type students but their knowledge is probably limited.

My DGF and I went to Jiko, and basically told the server that we had no idea about South African wines, and asked him to guide us. He basically brought us wines with each course, and it worked out amazingly. I am not sure how the other restraunts work, but I know many of them also have wine pairings on the menu.

No one who knows anything about wine would ever recommend a white zin for any meal.

RustyScupper, you did not just use White Zin in your example? As far as wine knowledge goes in Disney, some 350 servers have passed the Court of Master Sommeliers’ introductory exam down there. While that is not every server, if you are in a nicer TS restaurant your server should have sufficient skills to recommend a glass. And know, they will NEVER tell you to get the White Zinfandel.

By the way, some of us can't enjoy "nice" wines like others can. I have bad allergic reactions to all reds and most whites with the odd exception to a few of the "cheap" white zins. Hence I avoid all wines when not at home. It's quite possible that others may prefer zinfindels because of similar circumstances.
For the sake of this thread, lighten up and don't look down your nose at those of us who aren't as wine-abled or savvy!
The OP simply asked about servers recommending a wine for the meal. I think the definitive answer is "maybe" and "take at your own risk"

The important thing to remember is to order the wine that you find enjoyable with the food its not about what others think if its a good match for you thats whats important . advice given by a winemaker at Food and Wine seminar last year. The waitstaff at any of the sit down resturants should be able to help you with making a decsion if you ask them
