Hi Guys...
Total newbie here...
but what do I need to know about the wine and dine? I wasn't planning on doing the race until Disney changed the dates to when I'm there.
All I know about the race is that it is at night, it's a 1/2 marathon, through Disney of course and the registrations open about march 13.
There are lots of threads on the tinkerbell but I haven't found much info on the w & d.
Do they have an expo before the event with lots of vendors. Are there lots of characters. Is the course hilly. Has anyone done the race and did you enjoy it.
I'm in training and slowly increasing the k's I do each week. Not really following any method at present but just improving fitness and not injuring my foot any further.
Thanks
First off, Welcome!!!
Ask away with your questions! Chances are if you are wondering about it, so is someone else. So thanks for standing up and posting!!
The Expo is Friday and Saturday at ESPN Wide World of Sports. Race packet, bib & goodie bag pick up as well as vendors, speaker series and sponsors will be there.
As mentioned, the only 'hills' are those that are in the parks and the couple of over passes. Depending on if you are thinking about doing the full half or the relay, it would change the number of times you go up over an overpass. (if the course stays the same Relay Runner #1 gets one hill, Relay Runner #2 would get three inclines, and doing the complete half would net you four up and overs--by my counting skills.)
I have done both Wine & Dine ½'s and enjoyed them. The weather could have been a little less muggy, but with the change of race dates, that should be helped a bit this year. Night races aren't for everyone. A friend that ran it last year had a horrid time, because he is used to running in the wee hours of the morning before work and was totally thrown off balance for the night race. Be sure to get in a couple practices at the end of the day.
The first year, there seemed to be TONS of Disney characters and floats from parades and performers (stilt walkers, Festival of the Lion King, etc) and musicians. Last year, it seemed as though there were fewer. But still a fair amount.
Amy, did you take any pictures? that would help us with which characters are there! wow, you've done a lot of these races! good job!
I can post some pics from the races. I am one of those, stop at every photo op kind of people. As long as I don't see the sweepers, I stop. lol
Disney won't guarantee any specific characters along the course. But it might give you a good idea.
And if it hasn't already been started, I will start and official thread today.
