Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2022 (Nov. 3-6, 2022)

I've been beset by injuries over the last decade or so. I am taking it slow and steady, to the point where I did an Excel spreadsheet that builds only 10% of mileage a week (dropping down every fourth week before building again). Concentrating on developing a solid weekly base of running to where I'm up to 20 miles/week before I even start to build up my "long" runs to over 5 miles
I feel like I've found my group of "Slow and Steady" trainers here. I also pushed it too hard or started back too soon/too hard after injuries over the last few years. It is hard to take it slow but I just keep reminding myself......you don't want to have to stop again because you hurt your "fill in the blank with body part"!!

Have you seen @DopeyBadger's posts about this subject? Of course, he could explain it much better than I ever could. Nonetheless, you might want to look into Jack Daniels' approach of setting up your mileage based upon your current abilities and leaving it at that level for four weeks. After four weeks at the same mileage, you can increase your mileage by the number of days that you run per week. Then, you run at that new mileage for four weeks etc.

Both methodologies can be useful in certain contexts. I also follow a pattern of increasing the mileage based on duration limits.

Week 1 - X min
Week 2 - X minus 20-40 min
Week 3 - X min + 20-40 min
Week 4 - X minus - 60 min
Week 5 - X min + 40-60 min

and so on and so forth. I wouldn't continuously increase for much more than about 12-16 weeks. Much longer than that is likely going to lead to stagnation and should be reserved for two separate training cycles.

Which of the three methodologies comes down to individual circumstances, but many times I'm watching all three methods when writing.

My PT's training plans are similar, but I believe he builds for two weeks and then drops back 20% on the third.

However, when starting to reload after an injury, he goes up for three runs per week and then drops back for the fourth (this is usually part of a back-to-back run). Then builds again the next week. His experience is that once an injury can take 40 minutes, you are good to go.

(P.S. I have a 40 minute run at the end of my current plan. I did a happy dance  when I saw this.)

It is hard to take it slow but I just keep reminding myself......you don't want to have to stop again because you hurt your "fill in the blank with body part"!!

My PT calls this not "running yourself out of running" and I try to remind myself of it often.

I also tell myself "don't do stupid things" - with stupid things being defined as something that I'm going to feel stupid when I try to explain what happened to my PT and/or something that going to cause him to do his patented head shake. (Which I've seen more than a few times)

Hi RunDisney friends. First time poster and trying to plan my first WDW RunDisney event. I see this event is totally sold out at this point. Does anyone have insight on the likelihood of additional of any race availability being re-added? Or, is there a secondary market to buy addition passes? I'm just looking for 1 pass, ideally 10k, Challenge, or Half (or a combo). Coming from Seattle, WA for my first event and was wondering if anyone had tips on how I might be able to attend. Thank you!

I think it's unlikely for much availability to open up at this point. It has opened briefly a few times, but never for more than a few minutes at a time. There may be charity bibs available if you contact the various charities listed on the runDisney event page.

Considering you are planning Expo Friday official merchandise will be pretty picked over already so time of day won’t matter and waits won’t be as crazy

Thank you for the recommendation! After a few calls, Disney seemed a little disorganized on this topic. In the end, no charity or travel package opportunities available for this one.

Booked our flights last night. The original plan was for my mom to come down and be our babysitter for the Epcot after party but with the possible spike in COVID this fall she wants to hold off on making a decision so we have to make some contingency plans.

For now we bought a third ticker for our son so we can at least spend 4 or 5 hours at the after party and if my mom comes we can try to sell that. The other option, if she doesn't, is to try to sell off all three of our after party tickets and just do Epcot during the day. Decisions decisions.

I just found this on the Eat to the Beat concert series page:

Fresh, Hot Sounds Nightly!

Spice up your day of delicious dining with a live concert! Attend an Eat to the Beat concert presented by Florida Blue Medicare—with performances taking place:

  • Dates: Nightly during EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival—July 14 to November 19, 2022
  • Times: Starting at 5:30 PM, 6:45 PM and 8:00 PM
  • Location: America Gardens Theatre at EPCOT

My all time favorite band (Hanson, hehe) always plays at Eat to the Beat around Halloween. 2 more years until W&D falls after Halloween again. A girl can only hope to hit two birds with one stone.

not true 2019 they either weren’t there or were but before Halloween (Halloween was expo day and if Hanson was there we would of 100% saw them)

Hanson performed from October 28-30th in 2019. I think that qualifies as "around Halloween".

I think so too 😉 I missed it by just a day! Saving my coveted personal days (school staff life) so I can go down a day early to catch them when/if it lines up again!

Looks like Boyz II Men is going to be performing at Food and Wine during the half marathon weekend. Do we know what times they typically perform? Will it be after 5pm when we're admitted into the park?

I am really excited about the Boys II Men potential! My husband will be too. And I was just re-reading the post race party description and it sounds like they WILL be playing during the party if they are the musical act on that date. From the runD webiste:

You’ve done the Half Marathon—now it’s time to celebrate your accomplishment with an after-hours party at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival! You’ll have access to Global Marketplaces, select EPCOT attractions and live entertainment! Your Half Marathon or Challenge registration includes entry.

Yes! If you get in when we're allowed in - 5pm? - I think you could see all three sets

With how quickly the races open and then close I suspect you'll need to be watching the page with a script to actually get to register.

So quick to close. Anyone known to actually register during this time or is it some glitch in the Disney matrix?
