They've done it before! But it usually only lasts for a weekend ... I think this year it's over Halloween weekend. :(

Question for everyone who has done this in the past! When they say "post race food and refreshments" what exactly does that mean? A glass of water? a banana? wine?
search images in Google for "Run Disney post race box" and you'll see examples of what they put inside the boxes.Aside from the boxes you'll get a bottle of powerade and water, a banana and since I've never run W&D before I hear you get a choice of beer or wine plus you can choose to spend the $15 card they'll send you before the race at the F&W kiosks around World Showcase.

When you go through the tunnel, you will be able to get powerade, water, the refreshment box below and a banana. They will also have either champagne and beer as it is the Wine & Dine.

An example of the refreshment box: (This was Princess's - I imagine it will be cliff bars instead of luna like what we got at Star Wars)

Snack box with crackers/chips, stuff from sponsors...banana...wine or beer or pop.

Yes. They won't need a ticket to get to the finish area. :)

Thank you for all the feedback! I'm far too excited and it's still a ways off. We're doing a 15K in April for proof of time as well as my first ever race. I just started running really in November and knew the best way to motivate myself was with a Disney race! Hopefully I can get in under the pace for this proof of time to actually matter. Either way - it is the hot chocolate race so at least I'll get some yummy treats! I think I have a theme for my races going forward... delicious snacks or Disney! :rolleyes1

Question about the post-race party...

I was reading that blog post about the race someone posted back a page or two (great recap, BTW) and noticed they stayed in their running costumes for the party. Do most people just stay in their running garb for the party or do they pack a bag with a change of clothes. We've never bothered with a bag check before but we are also always going right back to our lodging. Not sure I'd want to stay in sweaty running clothes all night, but also not keen on carrying around a bag with with running clothes in it either. What do others do?

We've done three post-race parties (though not for long at last year's rain-soaked W&D) and we just stay in our running costumes. Once we cross the finish line we're generally so upbeat and enjoying the party that we don't notice how sweaty we were, or it's remained humid enough that cleaning and changing would have been wasted effort and party time. Plus our post-race pictures are more fun with the medal and costumes.

There are quite a few people who do check a bag of clean clothes and some supplies for cleaning themselves, too. To each their own.

@ZellyB I thought I would myself, or husband, place my a change of clothes and anything else in a locker for me at Epcot at 7:00. I was thinking at International Gateway. I could see why near race finish would be good too. This would avoid my waiting in line with a bag check.

Do they have anything besides water out on the course? I've never done a long run and not sure whether I'll need anything during the race. I've heard of people using a gel or goo? Know there are power jelly beans, etc. any recommendations?

Really, you should play around trying different things during your training to see what works best for you. You'll have to fuel during your long training runs anyway. My stomach doesn't tolerate most of the "standard" electrolyte drinks (Gatorade and Powerade) so I use Nuun for electrolytes and wear a hydration belt with my electrolyte drink. I will pick up plain water from the water stops along the way. For fueling, it's again personal preference. Last time I did a half I was using a combination of Gu gels and Gu Chomps, but I recently discovered Huma gels and I love them so much. They are a little thinner viscosity than Gu (think more like jam/jelly) so I find they go down easier, and they are made with real fruit puree so they don't have a chemical taste. They do have ground up chia seeds, which don't bother me but may not be to everyone's taste.

Some people like to just carry packets of honey, others use the Stinger waffles. It all comes down to what works for you. If you have a local running store (or even just Dick's sporting goods) I would go and buy a few different things to try out until you find what works for you.

Ugh...I'm taking a week off of running because I've been having some tendonitis (I think) in my foot, and it's killing me to not be able to train. Especially since my foot feels fine now after just 3 days off. But, I'm supposed to run a half on June 13th, so I guess it's better to take 7-10 days now and let it heal rather than push through and have to take 4-6 weeks off later. I forgot about this part of training. I'm super injury-prone, I think because I have slight scoliosis so I'm never exactly "even" when I run.

Thanks for the info. The idea of this makes me slightly nervous, but I appreciate the suggestions on how to deal with it.
Try not to worry about it - remember, 100s of thousands of people have finished races at WDW with no mroe than a little extra soreness from our FL roads!

Powerade and water offered on the course, plus one fuel stop with Clif Shots (assuming Clif is still a sponsor.) Fuel is one of those tings you just have to experiment with in training - different folks have different needs and tastes. Generally speaking, most people need about 100 cals per hour. I've tried a bunch of stuff and have found that I do best with gels, and my favorites are GU and Clif Shots. I also really like little pretzel rods for a change of pace sometimes. Hammer gels and I do NOT get along, but lots of others swear by them.

Yes, yes, and yes! Water, Powerade, bananas and snack boxes immediately after finishing. For this race, also a ticket for a free beer or wine. And then there's the Food & Wine Fest booths, which are an extra cost.

I always bring a change of clothes and shoes to night races - it's nice to get out of sweaty clothes and into any footwear other than the shoes I ran in! I just pack a backpack into the checked bag so after the race I can load the running gear into a plastic bag, and that into the backpack to carry. Last year, after 13+ miles of cold pouring rain, changing into warm, dry clothes was the BEST! I felt like a new person after that :)

When my husband and I did TOT, we checked a gear bag with a change of clothes, flip flops, and a packet of body wipes. At the Studios they had big tents set up where you could go in and change, and we did that. Hoping they will offer that at W&D too, as I imagine the bathrooms would be very crowded. I suppose the tent is not an option if you are shy/modest, but after all the times I've dropped trou to pit stop in the woods, I have lost all my shyness and am willing to change about anywhere!

We're planning to do an early dinner in EPCOT, so our plan is to leave a bag in a locker with other clothes for the husband and a change of shoes and things to freshen up with for me, and then grab the bag out of the locker on our way out of the park after the party. I guess it will also depend on what costume I go with, too ... I may make two shirts, one to wear for the run and then another to switch in to for the party. We'll see! The past two events we've run in, the husband has changed clothes (but he gets SUPER sweaty), but I've generally just cleaned up and thrown on a jacket because I've gotten chilly. I guess it really depends on what you like after a run!

Oh no!! I'm sorry to hear that - but I think you're doing the right thing in taking the time now rather than later to rest and heal.

Sending you good healing vibes!!

My husband and I usually check one bag. He likes to change his sock and shoes. I normally will change my socks - or possibly switch to flip flops. Normally our clothes aren't too bad...especially since all of our running gear is made to wick away moisture, etc. But of course that is a subjective personal opinion. We hate carrying too much stuff with us - so we would rather feel a little...less than fresh, than have to carry a change of clothes and mess with a change of clothes. Plus the idea of putting clean clothes onto our icky selves doesn't sound nice either. So we just party dirty until we get back to the room and can shower. (Or pass out dirty on the bed depending on how much tequila and whiskey the husband drinks at the after party!) :drinking1

Someone already posted a picture, but the box for princess was delicious! I am hoping that is the new trend in the boxes...they used to have humus and goldfish crackers (both of which I hate!). When you pass the finish and get your medal they funnel you into a walkway where bottles are along the sides, then the boxes then bananas, and then finally you take your photo with the medal (if wanted).

As for taking clothes after the race - I think this depends on the weather. DEFINITELY bring flip flops or something. I forgot after princess and I'd have been so much happier because of how hot my feet were. (FWIW, I bought a pair of reef's a few years back and they are amazing for walking around Disney). But I've always stayed in my running clothes for after parties, for TOT I brought a jacket since it was cooler last year. I'd imagine similar to what we'd normally expect for W&D. For TOT we also received those reusable cold towel things, but I think they expected the weather to be hotter like it usually is, so I don't know that W&D will have them and bringing wipes may be a good idea. And of course, if it rains...your choices are to change clothes or just have a lot of wine.

@mbwhitt You would not be able to access pool at Y&B or over at BLT (Comtemporary pool bar is accessible )

I actually thought that part of the BC bar is accessible to the public, just like hurricane hannahs. The accessible portion would be just to the left of the food counter. Also, I would suggest the grand Floridian or animal kingdom lodge pool bars as well. They all have a few tables right next to the bar.

Definitely been thinking about ADRs as well. DH really want Beaches and Cream at some point. Trying to fit it in is the problem, maybe Sunday lunch. I'm thinking Kona after the 5k and a late snack lunch at the resort quick service. I like the idea of pasta for lunch too. Will have to talk to DH.

On Sunday afternoon we are wanting to do some celebratory drinking before MVMCP but won't have park tickets. I thought about the monorail crawl but don't think the lounge/bar areas are open in the afternoon. Any recommendations? I thought about DTD (Springs) or the boardwalk area.

Totally blanking on the name, but we got drinks at the bar outside of O'hana at the Poly after the PHM midday. The bartenders name was Walter and he mixed a mean drink! I had a Mai Tai, as did a couple other friends, and some of our group got Lapu Lapus. Delish!

I really liked the Huma gel I had on my last long run!

I needed to find a better fueling strat for my long runs a week and a half ago for my 11.5 mile run for my Tinker Bell training. I had been doing all my previous long runs on the treadmill at the gym and I just brought a Larabar with me because I had a shelf and stuff on the treadmill, but that was my first run I was able to do outdoors. I went to the local running store and just bought a bunch of different brands/types and ended up using a Gu (salted caramel), a Huma (mango), and a Honey Stinger (regular old honey flavor) on the run. The Huma and the Honey Stinger were definitely my favorites. I didn't care for the Gu... it was really thick and sticky. I made a a mess trying to eat it and got it all over my hands and had to try and wash them with snow because it was so sticky. That wasn't too smart because then my hands were frozen. :)

I have 13 on tap for Saturday and I'm going to go get some more Huma flavors to try out. I have some sport beans and some Gu chomps that I had gotten before, but the gels seemed to work out well for me. :) None of the 3 seemed to bother my stomach at all.

That's rough. I hope the extra healing time does the trick. :sunny:

I'm with you on the Gu. I tried to give it another shot, but I just can't do it ... the flavor was fine, but the consistency was just gross to me.

I really like SportsBeans (watermelon and cherry), and ShotBlocs (margarita flavor). I'll check out the Huma and Honey Stinger as well!
