Wine and Dine 2015

You may chuckle at this, but its solid advice. My first runDisney event was the Mickey's Halloween (or whatever it was called...) running from the Ticket and Transportation Center through the Magic Kingdom and back, preceding the first Wine & Dine Half. I thought I would be clever and run as Bacchus, Roman god of wine and festivals. I even made a pretty spiffy laurel of grape and leaves (which I had to wear on the plane down to Florida as there wasn't room in my luggage...). A toga may be fine for a costume or frat party, but it is certainly not conducive to running. At least not without practice.

Great costume :) Though sorry it wasn't so comfortable to run in. At least you have a good story out of it!

Can anyone recommend an iPhone app that you can set for walk/run intervals? I don't have a Fitbit or anything like that. I only have a cheap pedometer, so I was hoping there is an app I can download?

I like RunKeeper. It will also track your distance and pace. You can create multiple workouts with different intervals/distance, and create your intervals based on time or distance.

Runkeeper is the one I used as well before I got a garmin. The only reason I stopped is I have an older iPhone and the GPS wasn't as accurate plus my phone would die after 6-7 miles. The GPS, which is required for all these run tracking apps, really drains your phone battery. But runkeeper as an app was good.

I'm using my phone battery as an excuse to get a Garmin 220, but I do love RunKeeper. My battery only JUST made it through a 2:39:00 long run for Tink last weekend (11.5 miles... I'm slow). Even though if I had taken it off the RunKeeper screen it probably would be fine, because RunKeeper keeps the screen on/awake the entire time. While the GPS does eat battery, so does running the LED screen for almost 3 hours. :D

Love this costume! But I can see how it must have been a challenge to run in...brilliant idea though!

I live outside of Orlando - I am looking all over the state for my PoT 10k and may think of going to Georgia or Alabama if I can't find anything. I'm still new to my training so I am trying to wait until June/July but I may have to move it up to May.
Yeah, it's really too hot down here for summer races - very few race orgs are willing to take on the extra liability and increased risk of danger. I'm in the Tampa Bay area and have run 10Ks as late as early May and as early as early Sept - May wasn't bad, but Sept. was ROUGH. It took me weeks to recover from the heat exhaustion of running hard in a heat index of 95*. No way would I even consider running all-out in mid-summer!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Why is everyone so concerned about USATF certification? The post from many pages back in which rundisney replied to a question about official certification seemed pretty clear to me. Sounded to me like as long as it was an official race with online results (no virtual runs or anything like that) you'd be fine. I had no problem with a 10K event that was not USATF certified in previous races.
They also need to be accurately measured - most that are chip timed and post online results are also accurately measured, but not all. Ultimately it's up to rD's discretion whether or not to accept a race as PoT, so it's a concern if one can't tell if a race meets the criteria.

Also, question for someone who's done Wine & Dine before, can you tell me how the course is (in terms of hills and stuff)? Is it pretty flat? I'm just miserable when it comes to hills, and want to plan to work on that if needed.
Pretty flat. Speaking as a Floridian who has to use brides for "hill" work, the only "hills" to speak of at W&D are highway overpasses. Not particularly steep and not very long. What we do have, though, are very steep slants on our roadways to handle stormwater run-off. On cloverleaf ramps, especially, that steep camber feels wore than the actual incline of going up.

When you submit a POT, how long before you know if it was accepted...
Unfortunately, you never really know; they don't email or anything to say if it's been accepted or not. You'll basically know when bib numbers and corral placement are released and you can see if your corral reflects your pace.

I love iSmoothRun and have used it for years! You can set all sorts of interval combos, set alarms for nutrition and hydration, log shoe miles, create workouts, etc.

Thanks! I will check them out. I should have said I was looking for one that works like C25k, in that it tells you when to run and when to walk, but that you can set up the intervals yourself. Hopefully one will do that. I also have an old iPhone so it will probably die on long runs too, lol.

Wine and Dine is a smaller race than some of the others so only certain hotels will have the transportation for race events. You can see the list at http://www.rundisney.com/travel/disneyworld/

I saw that floating around on the facebook group - that is not the case with W&D, it only is for the bigger race weekends like princess and marathon. For W&D only a few different hotels have transportation. Try going to the rundisney site under travel, wine and dine. I'm not sure where you are booked, but maybe there is another hotel you can walk to, like GF vs. Poly or something?

Thank you for your help! Looks like I will need to just splurge for a couple nights at the beginning of the trip :)

Oh darn. We were planning on going AOA or Pop so it looks like I can take the transportation from Pop. It will be hard to justify a couple of nights at the beach club with that lol

Has anybody who tried to enter the Wine & Dine through Marathon Tours heard yet if they were accepted? The email said that you would be notified by Friday at 5:00 if accepted. I didn't fill out my 1st form correctly so I had to fax a second one an hour later which probably sealed my fate. Holding out hope for good news, but wish I knew either way so I wouldn't be worrying about it any longer.
Any luck? I received a rejection yesterday hopefully if you didn't receive that, then they are just working their way through the registrations?
Fingers crossed for you. DH told me yesterday that if we don't get a charity spot he will run next year and we can go w/out kids - and still take a family trip this fall!! And he is not the Disney every year type.

Hope the rest of you that didn't get in find a silver lining too! :shamrock:

I won't tell if you don't! :ssst: But for you and others considering, I will warm that at least for the run discount, I think BC is booked up. They are giving people 2 week holds though, and if you don't pay the deposit they automatically cancel the reservation. I booked the day before registration opened and mine is due on the 30th I believe, so if anyone wants BC check back there around then!

I'd take it! And while we are all in our rooms napping you can be enjoying the wine for us and talking about how you get to go twice!

Hi All!
I had to take a few days to catch up on all the posts!! Why I didn't come here BEFORE I tried registering ,I don't know- DIS has given me great information and support in the past....
Congratulations all who got in, and I understand and empathize with those who didn't. For the uninitiated, this can be a nerve wracking, stressful process!
You should have seen me poised over my iPad waiting for the time, then it wouldn't load quickly on my work wifi so I had to run downstairs to a desktop......
Managed, after the "there's over 100 people in front of you" wait to log on, tried to sign up for both races together- the way you can or I thought you could with PHM.Gave up on the 5k .... And yes!! Managed by the skin of my teeth to register for the half! Yay!! But then lunch break over, I had to get my lunch relief out , logged back on, and after another 6 minute countdown...the 5k sold out . So grateful ful to be in the half... I saw everyone last year with their medals and was determined to get in.

I too will be running alone, just happy to be running and know I will make new friends
Thank you all for this great site
:)

It did double as my MNSSHP costume too. So I had to mind my body temperature. :scared::scared:

I bounce back and forth (and sometimes use in conjunction) RunKeeper and iSmoothRun.

I just got my rejection an hour ago. Frustrating!!!

On how much of the W&D course is this noticeable?
