Wine and Dine 2015

As for meeting up with everyone, I think we might fly down Thursday night. I just looked at DD's school calendar and her last exam is that day. Ugh!! I would have to pull her out around 1:00pm. Otherwise we would have to fly down Friday and not get to the expo until around 2:00pm. I really don't want to go that late, especially for my first one. Depending when we fly down, I should be free most of Friday and most of Saturday. Don't plan on doing the parks too much until after the Half. Just let me know when everyone decides. I really hope I can make it.

I'm debating when exactly we'll hit up the Expo at the moment. Probably midday/evening on Friday (so we can hit MK first thing in the morning), or on Saturday after a quick round at DHS in the morning. What were you thinking?

I'm easy-peasy. I think we're going to get to Orlando on Monday or Tuesday. I'm getting an Annual Pass and will have the car (since the husband works), so I was planning to hit the parks solo pretty much every day for a bit.

I'm with you. At least until things die down a little. I love the positive support we have here. I don't want to focus on the negative. Even a post someone had in my PTR about not getting in was so negative that it really brought me down. Let's build each other up, not tear each other down.

I didn't even realize it was your PTR that the comment was in! I was going through my alerts and figured it was this thread when I read it.

~

My husband has his 10K on the 28th to try for a better time than what he had for the Star Wars 10K - he's hoping to make to Corral A or B so hopefully he's as speedy as he would like to be.

I'm still on my run break. I'm going to restart couch to 5K in May once I get home from my business trip. Hopefully my ankle is fully healed by then.

I don't get why people won't run alone. I rather not run with people as it just creates problems as everyone wants to be at the pace that works for them. At least from my experience, it doesn't work. I'll be at the finish line enjoying the after party.

My other good news is one of my coworkers was able to get a bib for the Boston Marathon this year which is awesome for him! Hopefully he makes his fundraising goal.

Right!?! My favorite was when one person actually said that if you run solo, you should leave the Disney races to those that are there just for the enjoyment of the event itself, that there are many races all over that you can do instead. haha Oh and that no one wants to go to Wine and Dine solo. Why are they picking on us solo runners? I almost replied...I took the high road. lol

That's crazy! I've NEVER run any of my races with anybody. 5k, 10k, half, I always run alone. Just because we are solo runners doesn't mean we have nobody waiting at the finish for us. That must have been someone on the runDisney FB page. *smh

DD25 and I are both running but there is NO way we will be in the same corral. This is my first Half and am SLOW, lol! She asked if I wanted her to run with me, but I remember reading on one of Ariel484's TRs that slowing down to run with her friend messed up her timing and made her more tired. I don't want to do that to my DD! And while I really, really don't want to get swept, I would feel even more horrible if she was swept because of me. We will go there together and hang till corral time, then run at our own paces and meet up at the end. I am so looking forward to it. The FB page makes me angry so I am trying to avoid it at the moment, so I don't say something I shouldn't lol.

Yeah, I keep clicking the backdoor link and it lets me right in. Strange, but whatever. I'm in!
Keels!! I want to thank you for the link

I am so glad you are being upfront. I am use to running solo and I don't know how to run with people. But I think it is great when people have an understanding of what one another expect.

Here is the link to purchase the commemorative items separately: http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?EVENT_ID=2138467&CHECKSSO=0

Once you click Register Now it will ask you to log into your Active account (if you have one) or the last option is to continue as a guest! So if you need to purchase the pins, necklace, ears, performance jacket, or the Pre-Race Taste - that's the link you want.

On the runDisney page for the Wine & Dine, click on registration and scroll down or click on "Commemorative Items".
Then "Check if I am registered for a Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend commemorative item!"
Click the register button and it should let you register for pins, jacket or whatever you choose.
Thanks for the directions! Seems very easy. :)

Re the solo runner conversation, I too will be one. I am a very individual runner, and can't really imagine running with somebody. I like going at my own pace. My mom is the one who most often attends local events with me, but we always participate separately and just meet each other after. She usually walks, while I run. It's better that way, but still fun having someone else there before and after. For Wine and Dine, I'm hoping my one sister will still come even though she's not participating and do the after party (although I have no idea how fast that will sell out). If she doesn't though, my younger sister and a couple of her friends who are also doing the half will be there. My mom mentioned maybe coming to cheer me on, but she's not a night person so that may not really work out. lol.

I like running alone! My husband does run with me sometimes and will be running with me this race but no hand holding here :) I will make him go ahead and be my pacer/picture taker for this race.

That's the only downside to being solo at Disney. I won't have anyone to be my picture taker. But hopefully other runners will be willing to do it.

If you see me, I'll snap a photo for you! Plus volunteers are awesome for photos and Disney usually has a CM that will take a photo with your camera at the character stops.

The "PLAN" is for my husband to leave the finish line party and cheer me on along the BW path. He would be happy to take pics for anyone of you. We altered our plans, I will fly out a day ahead, booked a room for the 5th at Pop, this morning. I too am very pleased that this is an optimistic, helpful and supportive bunch!

No one on here will be swept, I had the "Demeantors" on the brain in the beginning of HM DR, not fun.

I just signed up for a local mud run with some friends and will find local races for now. We will still go down at the same time as our friends, but will only do hanging out at DTD with them and go to Universal instead. Our Universal APs are still good and I am a bit disenchanted with Disney at the moment.

I can't believe that solo runner comment... My fiance and I are doing the Wine & Dine together, but originally I was just planning on doing it solo. When I started talking about the course and how much fun it was he decided he wanted to run it as well :rotfl2:. I told my parents I was planning on running this half and I swear you'd think I was a kid again they were so proud. They're driving up to come cheer me and my fiance on and go to the after party with us :goodvibes.

Today was not a great training day for me... I've been trying to fight off a chest cold for the past 2 days so instead of doing intervals for my maintenance run today I walked the entire thing. I still ended up with a pace of 13:24 minutes/mile though :thumbsup2.

Does anyone have corral info?

How many are there, how much time apart are they? Trying to figure out how many corrals will be between DH and I. He's a 1:45-ish 1/2 marathon and I'm a 2h15-ish...

Any ideas?

Tks!

Just doing this from memory but I think it is something like A-O. 1:45 should be in the B/C range. I think I was in corral D last year with a 2:07 so a 2:15 should be around E/F. There will be an email come out with the time ranges for each corral in the future.

At Princess everyone was offering to take pictures for everyone. I don't think you'll have an issue with that!

Ok, seriously, I am running with my husband, and we may kiss after we're done, but who wants to stop and make out and hold hands the whole way. That's just overkill. Or maybe I'm a grump! ;)

My husband will have to drastically slow down for me, but I know he REALLY wants to cross the finish line with me. I normally run my races alone and it was interesting running with a friend Princess weekend as we live in different states and couldn't train at all together. I know that we were training around the same pace and same intervals though so it helped. DH and I will likely do some long runs together to prepare to run together and to get him used to intervals as he doesn't use them. I have a feeling he will push me to go faster since he is faster, which is ok, but I need to train with him for that so I am prepared.
