Wine and Dine 2015

So today I came across another 10K event that's before the POT submission deadline, and now I really want to do it. It's not in my immediate area (it's in Chicago - I live in Wisconsin, so it would require travel), but it looks so fun.

So, I got an ADR for late lunch on race day at Chefs de France - but I'm thinking of dumping it.

What is everyone else's plan on eating before the race?

I recommend backing up what your normal eating time is for a typical race day. I don't think anyone gets up at 1 am to eat a meal the morning of a race starting at 7 or 8 am. I have found that eating lunch around 11:30 am is best for me. I will then take it easy back at my resort and nap in the afternoon. When I get up to catch the bus, I will then eat a banana or whatever you would normally eat the morning before a race.

The most important thing for any person fairly new to running, don't change things up from what you have trained doing! Race day is not the day to experiment with new energy gels, shoes or socks.

I recited this mantra all through my experimenting before the actual race (Tink) and then I broke the rule and wore socks during the race that I bought at the expo. :D It worked out ok, but I did wear a pair of them in my race shoes around for several hours in the park the day before to make sure they were going to be ok. ;)

This is what the experts recommend for night runs/races - eat a big breakfast (even if you are not normally a breakfast person), then a moderate lunch. For dinner, eat about 2 hours before your race and limit that meal to your normal pre-race snacks.

Was hoping to wear it during my 10 mile run in August. Will stick with the Nike shirts for longer runs I guess.

Depending on where the chafing is, you can always use BodyGlide or KT tape or Band-Aids to help prevent it. In general, though, I think it's better to stick with shirts, tops, shorts, socks, etc., that you know will work for you and keep you cool and chafe-free. I've got huge pile of race shirts that look great but are not suitable for long runs. I tend to use them as t-shirts instead.

That's why I tried it now. It's only the second time it had happened to me. I have a couple of shirts I know I can do longer distances in, I was just going for some variety. I haven't tried the bandaid trick yet, just sounds uncomfortable to me but I may have to break down and do it.

Well, I finished my 10k qualifying run. I only shaved off 40 seconds from my last time, but the course was RIDICULOUSLY hilly. I must have been hauling on the downhill because I know I walked at least half a mile. I normally don't walk at all. On the up side, my hubby shaved 7 minutes off his time, so we will likely be in the same corral. Disney's estimate has us finishing at the same time.:)

RawThreads Is doing their mystery pack sale for their shirts which are great savings. I found them super comfortable for runs!

Thanks for the heads up! They're shirts are cute and I've been wanting to give them a try :)

I have never been to the Expo. I'm wondering how much money I should plan on if I want to buy an "I did it" t-shirt, a W&D hoodie, and maybe a pin or two? I was thinking around $200? Does that sound reasonable? I know Disney prices aren't reasonable, lol! I am budgeting for my trip. :)

I was looking at these this morning. I have three Raw Threads v-neck shirts that I love and I wear all the time. But I am scared to try the mystery pack, I feel like I will get three designs that I don't like.

I would think that would be enough. The jacket at Tower of Terror was in the $70-$80 range and it was more expensive than the I did it shirts. Also, since we're talking about shopping, Pro-Compression is also having a grab bag for 3 random pairs of compression socks on sale, plus there's a 40% off code on the website so I ended up getting the 3 pairs for $39.

I don't know how much the hoodies were at Tink, but the t-shirts were $36.95 IIRC, and I think the pin I got was either $12.95 or $14.95.

You could trade with people if you get shirts you don't like/already have! There's a RT group on Facebook that does that. :)

For anyone buying the RT shirts I would HIGHLY suggest trying a short run in them before committing to wearing them during a longer race. They are fine for most people, but for me, I found that they don't wick well enough. :confused3 I do sweat a lot though (ew).

Thanks for the info, I was wondering the same thing as well... This is NOT going to be a cheap trip !Lol

Hoodies: $50ish
I Did It Shirts - $35ish?
Pins - $15ish apiece

All guesses. If you have a Disney Visa or Annual Pass, make sure to use/show them at checkout. APs get you 10% off of Disney merch, same with Disney Visa (if you spend $50...which you easily will).

The pin I prepaid for, so it was like it was "free" :D, but then I ended up with 2 shirts at the expo (a tech shirt with the half marathon design and the "I Did It" half marathon shirt that was blue), but then I ordered another "I Did It" shirt last week in pink when the different colors came out online. :o If I had gotten there earlier, I probably would have gotten the jacket and maybe some of the glassware, but that was all sold out before we got to the expo.

I'm hoping maybe for W&D I'll be able to get a jacket since the expo starts on Friday instead of Thursday.

Oh, and yes! I was using my Disney Visa there because I wasn't sure if they took AmEx or not, and I was surprised when she told me I got 10% off. :D

I forget about my AP discount! We were at Epcot and the very nice CM working in the store asked if I was an AP holder so she could give me the discount on my Minnie Peanut Butter Cookie!

Thanks, I will definitely use it at the Expo! :)

Thanks for that information. I just joined the facebook group.
