True, they said the cost of the dock area was more than the cost of the 99 year lease.

However, I do believe that they we subsequently able to purchase the island. But I don't know that for sure

The Dock and Dredging cost Disney more than the cost of the island itself.

from what I understand, DCL has a long term lease .... they were not allowed to "buy" the land

99 year least at the time.

Probably a safe bet none of us will be around to see the end of that lease.

So all of the sand on family beach, did that used to be rock? Did they remove the rock and/or bring in tons of sand? I noticed the beach past serenity bay (bike ride) was very rocky and I wondered why teh family beach area looked completely different

I believe the sand at the family beach is brought in. Not sure about Serenity Bay.
