Window of opportunity?

so why do they produce a new Vacation Planner guide each year and why do the point numbers change for each time of year for each year?

huh? other than moving easter week around and holidays like that, they don't change.

the trading options in the concierge collection and II can change, though. i think that may be part of the reason for the annual planners.

OK… Here is another question for you all. It may seem naive to ask this but I am a new DVC owner. If Disney is under contract with all of us DVC owners and they cannot contractually raise the points per stay effectively raising the cost per point on us (I know it is more complicated than that, just think about what I’m saying) so why do they produce a new Vacation Planner guide each year and why do the point numbers change for each time of year for each year? Yes, different more busy times of year take more points and vice versa. I’m talking about the same month year after year. I know it isn’t much but it does happen. I know the book is to get more advertising in our hands, we all know there is too much advertising in the entire world. That said; do they shift the point requirements for a nights stay from one resort to another effectively lowing one while raising another? A balancing act?

Actually, I think they don't change the TOTAL number of points on the chart, but they CAN mess around with what dates fall into what season. Just for example, they COULD decide that the Marathon week or the MLK weekend in January is becoming popular enough that they could raise the season for it in 2010. So when you study the chart, in the 2009 column it would be in the "Adventure" season and in 2010 they could list the dates in "choice" or "dream" season. To offset this however, they would take another date that perhaps isn't as demanding and move it to the "adventure" season to replace it and in effect make it an exchange.

Similiarly, I believe they could also raise a weekday point category and lower the weekend points. So in the end, it's still the same amount of points, just re-arranged. So maybe in 2009, a studio Sun-Thurs is 10 pts and the weekend is 24. They may decide in 2010 to make the weekdays 11 and the weekend 23. It still adds to the same amount in the end. This year, they added another season to the DCL charts and moved dates around a lot. When they did this they made some dates a lot more reasonable on points and some went WAY up. So this is why I think they can do this.

Someone will definitely jump in and correct me if I'm wrong about all this...but I think the charts all revolve around the TOTAL number of points and that they could monkey around with them if they wanted to.

they can do this (rearrange pts at DVC resorts but not mess with the total points in the year for each resort), but as far as i know, they have only adjusted the pt charts once or twice in 15 years. this virtually never happens.

OTOH, they can and do adjust the non-DVC pt charts (DCL, disney collection hotels like the GF and so on) each year. this is a different matter.
