Wilma!!!!!

Please check-in with us when you can so we know you're OK. Although Wilma technically made landfall in the SW part of FL, I know there have been several tornados in central FL. I also heard on XM Radio's Orlando Traffic and Weather station that power lines were down at Universal at Turkey Lake and Hollywood Way (I love XM Radio!) so I would guess that the winds were pretty bad in the area.

I'm glad they decided to close the parks today so that the UO employees could remain as safe as possible.

Hope to hear from all of you Floridians soon. Stay safe, guys!

Hey...

All fine here up in Tavares. (which is about 35 to 40 miles west/northwest of Orlando) Universal did close the parks today which I was very happy about as I didn't want to have to drive in this!

Rather windy here, lots of rain. We had some nasty t-storms last night and were in a tornado watch much of the evening. But all is okay. We have power which is very nice! The pool across the street is close to overflowing so we got more rain than they expected I think. But then again, right where I am is sandwiched between three lakes so we always get extra rain.

So it's a good day to catch up on my Internet work.

Smiles,

Holly

OK here in Melbourne though the morning was pretty scary with a confirmed tornado less than 10 miles from my house. Just lots and lots and rain and some pretty hefty gusts.

Hope to hear from you S. FL folks.

Glad to hear you guys are fine-others keep checking in please!

I'm fine. Power was not interrupted and the house is fine.
Glad to hear it, DM. After all you went through last year, I'm glad you caught a break this time.

Hope to hear good news from more of our regulars. I'm worried about Motherfletcher's house. From what I saw on the Weather Channel, Naples looks like it took a pretty bad hit. I was also amazed to see how much damage was on the Atlantic coast.

Checking in... Like DM said, we are fine, and the house is fine too. We have wild cats that came by and got into our trash the night before and then with the wind it made quite a mess, but that was easily cleaned up.
DM actually took the kids outside to play in the hurricane for a few mins in the morning. The winds weren't that bad during this time and the kids were amazed by it. I had the day off, so we decided to go out for breakfast. Hwy 192 was busier than I thought it would be and the place we went to eat was crowded. I guess alot of people had the day off. By the afternoon the weather had cleared up and was actually very chilly. I was caught off guard by the cooler weather so I had to go out and buy the kids some warmer clothes.
I hope everyone else is ok!
MotherFletcher, please check in!!! :wave2:

Mooooottthhhhhheeerrrrrfleeeetttttcchhhherrr........where are you?????? :magnify: :confused3

Checking in. South Florida really took a hit. Trees down everywhere, no power. I'm at work in Coral Springs, we have power here but not at home in Plantation. Some areas are coming back on slowly. My house is fine. We have wooden fences around them and they were all blown down.
I've been to Sebring twice to get supplies. It's a 140 mile trip, but works. Long gas lines are the norm. Even Clewiston got nailed, and they're 70 miles to the north. It doesn't get better until Lake Placid. Once in Sebring, you can get anything. What a mess. Everyone is helping each other, and we will rebuild.

I don't think we'll hear from others for a few more days. Most don't have power at home.

Hey...

I saw Mother Fletcher at the park on Tuesday! He said hello to me when I was the Greeter at Shrek. So all is well.

Smiles,
Holly

So nice to hear everyone checking back. Robvia, sorry about your fence. At least your house is ok? lol, I think I'd take Motherfletcher's idea too!

That's so like him riding out the hurricane at Universal!!
He had said he was evacuating to RPR so I figured he was physically OK. I hope his house made out OK too.

We are OK. Our property didn't fair so well. Our neighborhood was hit hard and the neighbors agree that our yard is the worst. A Sheriff's Deputy stopped in front of our house and just shook his head. The Mailman said OMG! I never thought I'd have to do it but we ate lunch provided by the Red Cross. We have no electricity and Florida Flicker and Flash said it wouldn't be restored until Nov. 10th.
Seahag can tell you how much fun it is to go without showers!
Wilma made my Bedrock! When I get my life together I need to do a Trip Report for therapy.

Very, very sorry to hear about your house Motherfletcher....sure glad your family didn't stay and try to ride it out. I know it's a small thing, but curious about the extra effort you put into saving your trees? You had said you cemented and tied cables to the ones left from previous storms? Let your family know our thoughts are with you during this reorganizing/rebuilding process.

Sorry to hear about the damage Robvia and Motherfletcher. It's no fun without power I know. Can you shower at work?

Hopefully your outages have you on a large grid - that was our problem last season, we were out 18 days because our particular cause only affected a few houses so they had all those other larger probelms ahead of us.

South Fla checking in here (on generator power!!!)- no power at work (Coral Springs) or home (Margate / Tamarac area) it's our 6th day without power - we lost 75 % of the shingles off of the roof, the fence between yards in the back is completely down (I have to tell you the :dog2: thinks it's the best thing ever!). We lost water for 3 days, but thank goodness it's back on - cold showers beat NO showers!! :cold: :earboy2:

(FPL estimates full power restoration of all Counties by 11- 22 :earseek: :earseek: )

Hope everyone else is safe !!

We live about a quarter mile from the Naples Botanical Garden which was chosen because the micro-climate of the location will support rain forest plant life. We took advantage and planted a number of exotic tropical trees and foliage. The trees and plants suffered most from the neighbor's brittle trash volunteer trees that were little more than flying weeds. One of the trees that we cabled held but one we cabled to a huge existing tree that was uprooted as well is leaning at about a 45 degree angle over the power lines leading to my house. I have to get a professional tree trimmer for that one. With the help of the neighborhood kids we got 80% of our broken trees to the edge of the road where the County said they would pick them up. The pile is 25' wide, 60' long and about 15' tall and is the biggest on the block. We got a call while staying at RPR that said we lost all of our trees. I started counting in my head and came up with over 40. We only lost about 25. Our house did not receive as much damage as Seahag's. I hope that it doesn't rain for a while.
We do have showers at work and the whole family has taken advantage. We are lucky that the nights have been cool enough to sleep comfortably. We have running water. We just had an FPL truck drive down our road so things are looking up. My dogs think that this is great fun too! :dog2:
This is the second time we ran to Universal when they closed too! Only one day though.
