Can't you just hear Fred calling her? Please Wilma, go back to Bedrock!!! Here it is, this official Universal Board Wilma Thread.
Well, it was starting to look like us Floridians were going to luck out this year. So, instead, here we go...
All Floridians check in here!
Me and DM are doing fine so far, I'm so deathly scared of hurricanes, seriously, it's a real phobia with me, so if things start looking like they are coming our way, I'm getting out of town! The fact that it is the most intense hurricane in history doesn't help things either.

There are reports of fights at the gas stations here. They have the Sheriff's Deputies posted at some stations. There is no bottled water.
Since DW works at the hospital we are going to ride it out. My boss told me to write my Social Security number in permanent ink under my arm to aid in identification. This is getting as scary as HHN!

Wow!! You guys all be careful please! And keep us posted please! Wilma seems like a very scary storm, that's for sure.

OMG!!!! What a horribly scary thing to say!!! I am still trying to make up my mind on whether or not to leave. By tommorrow, I will know for sure. I will probably take my kids and go to a friend's house in GA for a few days. How strong does a hurricane have to be when it hits the coast to really affect us here in Orlando?

good luck to all in florida who might be threatened by the hurricane
hope u guys are alright!

I'm in Tampa, and while it looks like the storm may hit well below us, we've elarned to never get quite comfortable and things can always change. So, I'm sitting here impatiently waiting to see what happens, and wondering how it'll affect work this weekend (HOS- last year Jeanne destroyed one of their houses)

Thats a tough question and depends on a number of factors, naturally. First is where it approaches from, how fast it's traveling, etc.

Last year I was in Orlando during Charlie...ironically there to evacuate FROM Tampa. Charlie was a category 3 and it still was pretty strong when it moved over Orlando causing a lot of damage, including taking off 3 stories of bricks (they were on just one side, more for looks than support apparently) from our hotel and crashing into 10 cars below, totally destroying them all.

No injuries luckily

Let's hope the ever changing projections will be right and the low coming down from the Midwest will take it away from FL all together. The local news channels are just as perplexed as the rest of us about the storm track. The next 24 hours will be very interesting.

They have closed schools here for Friday. My daughter's Science teacher told her there might not be a school on Monday. That's the downside of attending a school named Gulfview. At 3 p.m. they will likely have a mandatory evacuation for my neighborhood. They loosened the grip on my wife at the hospital. Instead of threatening to fire anyone who doesn't show up they said they would just write them up.

Closed on Friday? May be a bit overreacting, since according to the latest projections we won't see the storm until Sunday. I can definitely understand schools being closed on Monday though.

Hope you West Coaster's fare well. Hopefully this thing will stay well South of FL all together. I'm on the East Coast so worst case scenario should be we get some TS winds and rain.

Orlando's effects really depend on where it hits and how fast it moves. The slower the system, the more damage sustained winds can do wether it hits as a Cat 1,2 or 3.

We decided not to take any precautions and I'm glad we didn't. We went out and bought water last night. (15 gallons, my other half's idea :cool1: ) We also bought all the other necessary things just in case. I'm glad we did, we weren't the only ones that were thinking about that. The grocery store we went to was almost out of water and was completely out of ice. I guess noone plays around since last year. I am still hoping that Wilma doesn't bother us, I just looked and it looks like it is going south, but just in case she does, we're ready. (Although I have no clue what I'm going to do with all that water. )

Here's the latest for anyone that is interested.

South Florida checking in here - I am NOT liking the way this looks!!! I hope that everyone stays safe & remember, better to be safe than sorry - a few days in a hotel just may save your life. You never know. Every one please stay safe - :grouphug:

Slacking- The University is closed today and tomorrow.
Momof3- You can give DM a bath!
Haggy- Its like a reverse Andrew. By the time it gets to you it will be a TS.
I'm taking tomorrow off just to chip the exit hole through my ceiling and roof!

MotherFletcher you are so funny! :rotfl2: (The part about chipping the exit hole ;) ) I think I am not going to let DM drink anything else until all that water is gone! That's right, he'll have a gallon of water in his back pack when he goes to the spa everyday for a while. ;) I still don't understand what the whole water thing is about. I would think after a hurricane there would be an abundance of water! Yep, just pour it in the Brita picture and you'll be just fine! :drinking1

I just found out that my office is getting the day off tommorrow. WOOOOO! :cool1: It's almost like a snow day!! DM still has to go to the spa and give massages though. (I could think of sooo many funny things to put insert here. ;) )

I just got the mandatory evacuation notice. A majority of the models and FEMA have Naples as the target. It won't hit until 6 p.m. Sunday and it will last for 8 hours. Storm surge is projected to be 16 feet. My first floor elevation is 7.5' above sea level. The wind speed will be about 115 MPH sustained. I better get to chipping the hole! Every hurricane they have projected landfall incorrectly. The damn thing is still heading west. Could they be wrong this time? They are saying to evac to north of Sarasota.
These hurricanes really blow!

Sorry, Motherfletcher, I hope it does off track for you. Good luck with that temporary housing situation up on your roof if it doesn't. We are heading to my inlaws house in Deltona on Saturday because I think I will feel alot safer in their house than in mine.
