Since Christmas is on a sunday this year I was wondering how many churches will be holding services and if they aren't, will that bother you?
What made me think of this was a news report about some church (called it a "mega" church, I guess they mean a really large church?) having all kinds of controversity because they aren't going to hold sunday services on Christmas sunday.

Our church has cancelled services that day and I didn't think anything about it but I got to thinking about it and we did attend church when I was a kid and Christmas was on Sunday. I remember liking the fact that I had the perfect opportunity to wear some of my great new clothes, lol. I'm guessing my mom was less happy about it.

I saw this on a news story last night, some Christian churches not having services ON Christmas because it's Sunday. HUH! Aren't we celebrating the birth of Christ and what's a better place to do that then in his house? I am Catholic and there will most certainly be services on Sunday. But doesn't matter for us because no matter what day Christmas falls on, we always go to Church on Christmas Eve... it's a wonderful tradition for our entire family and makes Christmas day less stressful.

Our church is most definitely holding services on Sunday. Traditionally they have Christmas Eve services (one at 6:30 PM and one at 10:00 PM) and then have Christmas Day services anyway so Christmas Day being on a Sunday doesn't effect that other then they miss out on a weeks collection which sounds bad but the church has expenses too and our parish is horrible about contributing (we always are about $40,000 in the hole and they are not an extravagant parish by any means).

Our church has Mass on Christmas Day no matter what day of the week it falls on. I guess some churches do not have services on Christmas Day?

Yes, we are having church, I don't know what the actual service will be since some lady asked me to switch with her for the toddler nursery so I said yes. The ds were not thrilled, but we dont have any family to visit, be with etc. so its a good lesson to teach them to have a servants heart. I am sure the kids that are there will be reved up and excited already etc. I was thinking of getting them a small little thing, dont know yet.

our Methodist church is having Christmas Eve service and another on Christmas at 10 am.

Baptist here - at one of those "mega churches." :) We will be having Christmas Eve services as usual (candle-lighting, carols, etc), and then having one big church service on Christmas Day, no Sunday School or other activities. We usually has three services each Sunday - but they're just doing one on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Ours hasn't announced yet. I'm guessing that we'll have morning services and will cancel the evening service. If I remember correctly, that's what we used to do when I was a child (different church though).

Ours will have our regular 8am and 10:15am services but no classes.

We go to a Baptist church, and we are having a service Christmas day, but not Christmas eve this year. I'm hoping to go, but it kind of depends on my parents. My dad has to work Christmas day, so if we're going to get to see him it'll have to be early in the day.

Lutheran here! We sometimes have a Christmas Day service. I have never attended it though. We normally have 2 services and Sunday school on Sundays. This year, since it is Christmas we will just have 1 service at 10:00.

I think it is incredibly hypocritical not to have church services on Christmas Sunday. What better day to go to church? So to answer your question yes I would be furious if my church canceled services. They haven't and I am looking forward to starting my Christmas day celebration at church.

I agree. We're having services, but I think it's sad that it normally takes three services to hold all of our congration and they think they can handle it with just one. I understand people traveling, and we do have a HUGE military population, so that takes a ton of people out of the area. I'm with you though, I'd be so upset if they didn't have church at all. Of course, I can't imagine our pastor doing that.

Our church always has a Christmas Day service. Since they have 3 services on Christmas Eve, I don't think there's any need for more than one service Christmas Day even though it's Sunday. All 3 services Christmas Eve are packed.

Baptist Church of about 2000. We will have 3 services Christmas Eve and our 2 regualr services Christmas Day. the 10:30 service will be interpreted for the deaf

We are just having one 10:30 service. I like knowing I don't have to be up and ready for the 8:30 on Christmas!

Yep, we'll be having regular worship service, but no Sunday school. We'll attend midnight service @son's church.

Our church will have Mass at 4pm, 6pm, 10pm, and Midnight on Christmas Eve and then 8am, 10am and noon on Christmas Day. Usually we have a 7pm on Sundays, but I don't think so on Christmas.
