Will you get the Covid vaccine?

I didn’t intend to phrase anything a certain way. They literally did start the vaccine yesterday and we ARE already hearing about allergic reactions. That is a true statement. I also mentioned that I didn’t know how many people were affected or how many vaccines were given.
That's probably why you got the reaction you did because I read your comment and thought something entirely new had happened other than what happened with the 2 people. I got a slight alarm just from that. But then others stepped in and I realized it wasn't something new. All the articles I saw listed that it was 2 people but I guess we were just reading different things then. I think you might have hit the panic button and you may not have meant to. There were clinical trials before this with people of all shapes, sizes and medical history and this is really the first we are hearing of an anaphylactic reaction and like one might expect it's someone who has a history of such severe reactions. It's not that we are already hearing about something. I think this one is just poor timing for people already nervous about this vaccine. I never read that people didn't feel you have a valid concern, you sure do! I wish people wouldn't assume their feelings aren't valid. Just because someone disagrees with how or what something is said doesn't mean they don't count your concern as valid

Unfortunately they did not include people with severe allergic reactions...
In a statement Wednesday, Pfizer said that its trials did not include people with a "history of severe adverse reaction associated with a vaccine and/or severe allergic reaction (eg, anaphylaxis) to any component of the study intervention(s)."

Sorry that wasn't what I was meaning. The two people being talked about also had a history of severe allergic reactions, it's more of an expected outcome than someone who had no history at all receiving the vaccine and suddenly having a severe anaphylactic reaction.

As of now, it won’t be mandatory for my hospital. However, as an RN who treat patients with tracheostomies and such, I’m sure it won’t be long since I’m alllllllllll up in people faces 😬

ETA-...and I want to continue working so yes, I’ll be getting it.

I’m not sure. I’ve already had a pretty moderate borderline severe case of covid so I’m just not sure if it’s needed. If my doctor advises it I likely will but just not sure if I’ll need it.

My DD19 carries an Epi-Pen for bad food allergies. When it is time for her to get the vaccine, I will ask her to talk to her primary doctor first and then take the shot at the doctor's office, instead of somewhere else. When she has had other vaccines, she gets more arm soreness than I do, but that is all. Her arm is quite a bit smaller than mine, too, haha. That might be some of the difference.
I think this is the best course of action for anyone with severe allergic reactions who is worried. Ask your personal physician and go from there. At this point it's going to be a month or two before most of us have access to the vaccine and need to make that decision. Now would be a good time to schedule a telehealth visit to ask your doctor what they recommend.

Absolutely. My husband and I are both in our mid-30s without pre-existing conditions/comorbidities, but my husband is a teacher so I'm guessing he'll get it...February/March or something? Whenever they decide teachers need it.

I work in a hospital system* but am in research and can work 100% remotely - due to my work arrangement, age and lack of comorbidities, I'm guessing I will be one of the last in the state to get it.

And then we have a 2-year-old who obviously wouldn't get it.

*it is currently not mandatory for us to get the vaccine. It IS mandatory to get the flu shot.
Being in a medical field does not make one a medical expert on all the things. They’re only as knowledgeable as their own education and experience in their chosen field. This is not a slam against nurses. I have several in my life -ICU, maternity, surgical- they’re all awesome at what they do but none of them are infectious disease experts. I’m not going to a podiatrist to ask about my heart same as I’m not going to ask my niece who is a surgical nurse if I should get the vaccine or not. This is not to say you should or shouldn’t, we all have our reasons for or against but I’d encourage everyone to arm themselves with knowledge from those in the actual field before making a decision.
Just thought this needed to be repeated...

If you're dumb enough not to get it, you're conceding your kids will not be allowed in school, and you will not be allowed in public. So buh-bye.

I will as soon as it is available. I’m working from home and late 30s. I don’t have a history of allergic reactions or reactions to vaccines so nothing that makes me want to speak to a Dr. beforehand.

While there may be risks, I have a fairly high confidence in the science behind mRNA vaccines so I’m not really worried about the timeline. It’s the first of its kind to be approved but they’ve been working on the science behind it for decades.

Once the first wave or two of vaccines go out, I think it will be quite easy for everybody who wants one to get one. All the news articles showing timelines tend to assume most, if not all, eligible people want to get vaccinated when polls have shown it’s closer to 40% (even among healthcare workers).

:thumbsup2 You know it working.
Funny you should say that because I am lucky (or cursed) because I don't even get a reaction from anything. I had my last shingles shot in September. No reaction, even from the first one. Flu shot nothing. I mean nothing, no sore spots no swelling, no redness, nothing. I don't usually feel it when they give it to me and nothing after. I have to admit that I have wondered if what I did get was working. As far as the flu, I started getting regular yearly Flu shots about 9 years ago and have never had the flu since. Heck, I haven't even had a cold in over 5 years. I really shouldn't have said that because now I have probably jinxed myself.

Somehow I have read that out loud a half dozen times to myself, and it still makes no sense. :confused3 Maybe I'm just not reading it right?
It could have been said simpler, but to put it in fewer words. Don't believe politicians, believe people whose job it is to know about it. Not all people that are part of the medical/scientific field are connected with politics.
