I'm so happy to hear you made it out for a run AND made it to Rope Drop!

for you guys!!!.
In looking at the pictures, I guess it wasn't technically rope drop, but it was park opening, even though we were pretty far back in that line.
Hmmm- a dicey start there (and I don't mean the SE pictures).
Too bad about your brother's disappointment, but SoAT, Space Ship Earth, Living with the Land and 10:30 FP for Soarin' sounds like a pretty darned good morning to me.
I think the morning went well too and, judging by how long it took Nick to get back with the FPs, it must have been a complete madhouse there. It would have been difficult to send bro over there without his kids and find a place to meet up since he really didn't know the park at all.
And an awesome DIS meet to boot. Hooray! .
I was really thrilled to meet Anit, Marc, and Baylor and to see Jen again. It was definitely the morning's highlight!
Thanks for all of the wonderful pictures of Space Ship Earth. This is truly one of our family's favorites. .
I really tried to get some newer pictures than what I already had. I'm pretty pleased with most of them. I love that ride and when I look at the pics, well it takes me right there.
Good luck with your college tours and all of the upcoming prep!.
Thanks. Now if I could just get the nervous knot out of my stomach. I know it will all work out, but I want it to work out in the best possible scenario.
Yippee for another rope drop morning!

I was so happy to get there at park opening, despite the fact that we were at the end of a long line to get in.
I'm sorry, but if your brother didn't speak up about what he would like to do, then he has now room to whine - just my opinion......
He never said a word and I never asked. If I had any inkling that he wanted to ride that first I would have revised the plans. Oh well. Bad communication strikes again.
Oh, so glad you ran into my cruise buddies! Marc and Anita are awesome, as is Jen, and my boys had a great time with Baylor last year.
I'm so happy that I got to meet them. It sounds like they had a wonderful trip with a little bit of drama on the side. They were all so rested and relaxed and ready to start their summer vacation. It was cool!
Great pictures from SSE! Mine are always awful, I just can't figure out the right settings
You have to switch to the manual setting where you adjust shutter speed (the TV setting). Than you can fool around with it until you get some clear shots. There just isn't enough light to use an auto setting.
Hurrah for rope drop! Wonder if I will ever make one...
Wait - you did - when we did the Wild African Trek at AK. That was actually PRE rope drop. I think that counts, sort-of.
Sorry things got off to a rough start with the bro. Clearly no lasting psychological harm was done since he is planning his return.

Yes - clearly his psyche has recovered from the trauma of missing Soarin first thing in the am.
I love impromptu DIS meets.
It was pretty cool to meet Anita, Marc, and Baylor for the first time. And it was wonderful to see Jen again.
Fingers crossed everyone enjoys Soarin!!!
Preview - they do. Yeah!
Oh and good for you to fit in your runs on vacation!
I think the only reason I do it is because it makes me feel a little less quilty about all the calories I am consuming.
YAY for a second rope drop, and for a DIS meet! You were on a roll that morning!
I was so happy to get to park opening and I was even more excited that I got to meet Anita, Marc, and Baylor in person. And I got to see my buddy Jen. That was pretty cool.
You are living up to your sherpaness my friend. I may stage an intervention in Oct. Bag free. Can she do it?
Well, for your information I went completely bag free that evening. I know. I know. It's hard to believe. But it was raining and I knew I had to stage an intervention on myself.
I have to laugh at your brother. That is SUCH the kind of fit Jeff would throw. Apparently when I wasn't looking Jeff turned into a touring plan guy and neglected to share it with me that he had a plan and an agenda. It's kind of funny when it comes from someone you don't expect and then they act like the 2 year old. Not really funny at the time but...kinda.
Jeff should know you well enough by now to realize that he better communicate his plans. He knows you have everything scheduled to the minute. What was he thinking???????
My brother chilled after he finally rode soarin. And there's a story with that, too.
I
wonder if your brother regretted not taking Denny's place. Sometimes, and I know I'm guilty of it, you are illogically mad..and want to hold on to that mad, relish it. Being offered the chance to do something that negates it can go against that grain. Which makes NO sense but is human nature.
I think he did want to relish it because it some small way I think he was still irritated with me for planning the trip and "making" him come. I feel like that seed was still somewhere in the back of his mind.
How cool you got to see Anita, Marc and Jen! That will help anyone cool down, talk about an immediate distraction from a funk.
A Total positive distraction. It was really great to meet them and to see Jen again. I will miss her in October. She just has such a positive, gentle vibe to her.
Ah you are both giving me heartburn! K's top picks are all either private or out of State. We got lucky iwht Taylor, even though he is at Seattle Pacific University ($39

) he should shave 1-2 years off thanks to running start and this year did get a small grant which helps a little. K's going to kill us unless she gets some soccer money. It's possible...with her grades...but it'd only be some in a best case scenario.
If its a private school she'll get money because they give $ to everyone with decent grades, particularly if she plays a sport. Nick has some contact with a coach for a local private catholic university who has already encouraged him to apply now (early) for the best chance at scholarship $. Unfortunately, I don't know if Nick is at all interested in this school. It's got a heavy commuter population and in that scenario a lot of the resident kids still go home on the weekends. A small school is OK, but I think he wants an active on campus life.
There are a bunch of schools I would like to see Nick apply to - big universities like Penn State and Univ of VA, but their out of state tuition is too high. VA Tech and Maryland have the lowest out of state tuition and they are both excellent schools. All the big schools will have active intramural and club teams, so he can still play soccer at some capacity. Apparently the club teams are very selective and very competitive.
It is a pretty campus though and 100 miles isn't too horrible.
100 miles is a good distance. Salisbury is 90. Even though Salisbury doesn't have engineering, I may suggest he apply there for math/computer science/ or physics. A close friend's son, whose SATs were lower than Nicks, got $ there. Plus Nick is taking AP Calc 2/3 this year and AP Physics, so his curriculum is actually a little bit more challenging than said kid.
