Will You Chill Out if I Sprinkle You With Pixie Dust? The End p136 *New TR Link* p138

The Maryland campus is lovely. The football field and some of the buildings remind me of the U of Ark campus. Good luck with finding the right fit for college. Brent went away to school but it wasn't too far and still instate. Michelle is still at LSU and living at home.

Rope drop! Great start, sorry your brother was being difficult. Hopefully his attitude turned around after Soarin'. I'm so jealous you got to meet Anita, Mark and Baylor and Jenn. Sharing a ride on Spaceship Earth sounds great.

Looking forward to more.

Ohhhh, I just finished two weeks of whirlwind college tours with my DS. His top two choices right now are Texas A&M at Galveston and a private four year liberal arts college called Schreiner University. Schreiner is nearby and he could commute but it is very expensive and has limited choices for majors. I'm personally hoping he chooses Texas A&M. Galveston is their maritime campus and he is considering going to the Texas Maritime Academy at that campus. Can't believe my baby boy is about to go off on his own.... not sure how we got here so fast!

Don't you just love when you try to please and they just want to be contrary. :confused3

Great scenery during the run and a lovely morning at EPCOT ... well for most of you . You got to meet Anita, Marc Baylor and Jen.

I hope everyone made it through Soarin okay.

About the college thing, I think if you you live in Delaware you should be allowed in state tuition to the states surrounding it. I mean Delaware is one of those small states. :lmao:

Lovely pictures of the University of Maryland. I don't know why but it always cracks me up when I see or hear "Fear the Turtle!"

You got some really lovely shots from your run that morning! And YAY! for making it to rope drop again. But, your brother complaining about not getting to do what he wanted that morning probably would have sent me over the edge! :headache: Sounds like the impromptu DIS meet helped to lift the mood though! :thumbsup2

The University of MD looks beautiful!
Speaking of beautiful, love those pictures you got during your run! What a great spot!
HOORAY for making rope drop again!! But too bad your plan wasn't to everyone's tastes. :sad2: I love how it's ok when they get fastpasses for everyone without first asking though...
At least you had a fun Dismeet! how exciting!
Loved the SE ride along! Can't wait to do it in person!! :thumbsup2

:woohoo:Yay for a dismeet. We have met Anita and Mark before. Very nice people. It sounds like it couldn't have happened at a better time for you.

Oh no, I hope Soarin went well. I get motion sick but that ride never does it to me.

Love the Spaceship Earth pictures. We always ride it several times each trip.

I'm so happy to hear you made it out for a run AND made it to Rope Drop!

:woohoo: for you guys!!!.

In looking at the pictures, I guess it wasn't technically rope drop, but it was park opening, even though we were pretty far back in that line.

Hmmm- a dicey start there (and I don't mean the SE pictures).

Too bad about your brother's disappointment, but SoAT, Space Ship Earth, Living with the Land and 10:30 FP for Soarin' sounds like a pretty darned good morning to me.

I think the morning went well too and, judging by how long it took Nick to get back with the FPs, it must have been a complete madhouse there. It would have been difficult to send bro over there without his kids and find a place to meet up since he really didn't know the park at all.

And an awesome DIS meet to boot. Hooray! .

I was really thrilled to meet Anit, Marc, and Baylor and to see Jen again. It was definitely the morning's highlight!

Thanks for all of the wonderful pictures of Space Ship Earth. This is truly one of our family's favorites. .

I really tried to get some newer pictures than what I already had. I'm pretty pleased with most of them. I love that ride and when I look at the pics, well it takes me right there.

Good luck with your college tours and all of the upcoming prep!.

Thanks. Now if I could just get the nervous knot out of my stomach. I know it will all work out, but I want it to work out in the best possible scenario.

Yippee for another rope drop morning!

:woohoo: I was so happy to get there at park opening, despite the fact that we were at the end of a long line to get in.

I'm sorry, but if your brother didn't speak up about what he would like to do, then he has now room to whine - just my opinion......

He never said a word and I never asked. If I had any inkling that he wanted to ride that first I would have revised the plans. Oh well. Bad communication strikes again.

Oh, so glad you ran into my cruise buddies! Marc and Anita are awesome, as is Jen, and my boys had a great time with Baylor last year.

I'm so happy that I got to meet them. It sounds like they had a wonderful trip with a little bit of drama on the side. They were all so rested and relaxed and ready to start their summer vacation. It was cool!

Great pictures from SSE! Mine are always awful, I just can't figure out the right settings

You have to switch to the manual setting where you adjust shutter speed (the TV setting). Than you can fool around with it until you get some clear shots. There just isn't enough light to use an auto setting.

Hurrah for rope drop! Wonder if I will ever make one... :rolleyes1

Wait - you did - when we did the Wild African Trek at AK. That was actually PRE rope drop. I think that counts, sort-of. :rotfl:

Sorry things got off to a rough start with the bro. Clearly no lasting psychological harm was done since he is planning his return. ;)

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Yes - clearly his psyche has recovered from the trauma of missing Soarin first thing in the am.

I love impromptu DIS meets. :thumbsup2

It was pretty cool to meet Anita, Marc, and Baylor for the first time. And it was wonderful to see Jen again.

Fingers crossed everyone enjoys Soarin!!!

Preview - they do. Yeah! :woohoo:

Oh and good for you to fit in your runs on vacation! :worship:

I think the only reason I do it is because it makes me feel a little less quilty about all the calories I am consuming. :rolleyes1

YAY for a second rope drop, and for a DIS meet! You were on a roll that morning! :)

I was so happy to get to park opening and I was even more excited that I got to meet Anita, Marc, and Baylor in person. And I got to see my buddy Jen. That was pretty cool. :goodvibes

You are living up to your sherpaness my friend. I may stage an intervention in Oct. Bag free. Can she do it?

:rotfl:

Well, for your information I went completely bag free that evening. I know. I know. It's hard to believe. But it was raining and I knew I had to stage an intervention on myself. :rotfl:

I have to laugh at your brother. That is SUCH the kind of fit Jeff would throw. Apparently when I wasn't looking Jeff turned into a touring plan guy and neglected to share it with me that he had a plan and an agenda. It's kind of funny when it comes from someone you don't expect and then they act like the 2 year old. Not really funny at the time but...kinda.

Jeff should know you well enough by now to realize that he better communicate his plans. He knows you have everything scheduled to the minute. What was he thinking???????

My brother chilled after he finally rode soarin. And there's a story with that, too.

I
wonder if your brother regretted not taking Denny's place. Sometimes, and I know I'm guilty of it, you are illogically mad..and want to hold on to that mad, relish it. Being offered the chance to do something that negates it can go against that grain. Which makes NO sense but is human nature.

I think he did want to relish it because it some small way I think he was still irritated with me for planning the trip and "making" him come. I feel like that seed was still somewhere in the back of his mind.

How cool you got to see Anita, Marc and Jen! That will help anyone cool down, talk about an immediate distraction from a funk.

A Total positive distraction. It was really great to meet them and to see Jen again. I will miss her in October. She just has such a positive, gentle vibe to her.

Ah you are both giving me heartburn! K's top picks are all either private or out of State. We got lucky iwht Taylor, even though he is at Seattle Pacific University ($39 :scared1:) he should shave 1-2 years off thanks to running start and this year did get a small grant which helps a little. K's going to kill us unless she gets some soccer money. It's possible...with her grades...but it'd only be some in a best case scenario.

If its a private school she'll get money because they give $ to everyone with decent grades, particularly if she plays a sport. Nick has some contact with a coach for a local private catholic university who has already encouraged him to apply now (early) for the best chance at scholarship $. Unfortunately, I don't know if Nick is at all interested in this school. It's got a heavy commuter population and in that scenario a lot of the resident kids still go home on the weekends. A small school is OK, but I think he wants an active on campus life.

There are a bunch of schools I would like to see Nick apply to - big universities like Penn State and Univ of VA, but their out of state tuition is too high. VA Tech and Maryland have the lowest out of state tuition and they are both excellent schools. All the big schools will have active intramural and club teams, so he can still play soccer at some capacity. Apparently the club teams are very selective and very competitive.

It is a pretty campus though and 100 miles isn't too horrible.

100 miles is a good distance. Salisbury is 90. Even though Salisbury doesn't have engineering, I may suggest he apply there for math/computer science/ or physics. A close friend's son, whose SATs were lower than Nicks, got $ there. Plus Nick is taking AP Calc 2/3 this year and AP Physics, so his curriculum is actually a little bit more challenging than said kid.

I love looking at college campuses. I would love to see LSU. It seems like a school with so much spirit. When we visited Disney in December we couldn't turn a corner without seeing an LSU sweatshirt. It was pretty cool!

Rope drop! Great start, sorry your brother was being difficult. Hopefully his attitude turned around after Soarin'. I'm so jealous you got to meet Anita, Mark and Baylor and Jenn. Sharing a ride on Spaceship Earth sounds great.

His attitude completely turned around after riding soarin' the first time and I have a nice heart warming story to tell about that, so stay tuned. :goodvibes

L
ooking forward to more.

I am trying to update twice a week, so hopefully I'll get one in during the week. We'll see!

His choices sound so wonderful. I probably would be pushing him towards the larger university, too. I think its really important to have a good choice of majors. The Maritime Academy sounds very interesting. Well, at least he has it narrowed down to two top pics. It really sounds like he is ahead of the game. I wish him much success.

Don't you just love when you try to please and they just want to be contrary. :confused3

Ugh - I was really irritated with my bro that morning because I felt like things were getting better and they were really getting into it. And then - POW - attitude. It was irritating, but fortunately he got over it by lunch time!

Great scenery during the run and a lovely morning at EPCOT ... well for most of you . You got to meet Anita, Marc Baylor and Jen.

I just love that SSR path that runs across from DTD. It's the greatest backdrop for running.

It was really cool to finally meet Anita, Marc, Baylor, and Jen. And I'm glad they sort of surprised me, because I really needed that. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone made it through Soarin okay.

No suspense here - they did and they loved it. And it has a happy ending, which I will write about soon.

About the college thing, I think if you you live in Delaware you should be allowed in state tuition to the states surrounding it. I mean Delaware is one of those small states. :lmao:

I totally agree. I wish there were a few schools that offered that. I am drawn to Maryland because I actually spend more time there than any other surrounding state. I go to church there and my band often marches in events in Maryland. Many of my friends live there. I feel like a resident, but I'm not.

There is something called the ACM - Academic Common Market that Delaware belongs too. There are many schools in the southern states that will offer admission to Delaware residents at in-state tuition IF they are accepted into a program that U of Del or Del State does not have. So, these programs tend to be more obscure majors. There really isn't anything that Nick is interested in, although I scan the list every month because it always changes.

Lovely pictures of the University of Maryland. I don't know why but it always cracks me up when I see or hear "Fear the Turtle!"

:rotfl2: I know - that is pretty funny, isn't it? I mean - a turtle? :rolleyes1 Come on! :rotfl:

You got some really lovely shots from your run that morning! And YAY! for making it to rope drop again. But, your brother complaining about not getting to do what he wanted that morning probably would have sent me over the edge! :headache: Sounds like the impromptu DIS meet helped to lift the mood though! :thumbsup2

The impromptu DIS meet was really what I needed to shake the cloud that was forming over me. I really put a lot of the blame on myself for not planning things correctly, but on the other hand, how was I supposed to know? I just did my normal touring plan for getting TSM FPs.

I'm loving all of the pictures. It's almost as good as being there. LOL!!

I am usually the family sherpa. Although when it comes to the big stuff, DH usually ends up carrying them. LOL!!

Yay for rope drop! Even though is annoys my guys we love doing rope drop!!

Good luck with the college search! I hope your son finds the right fit for him!

Gosh I'm sorry your bro was being so difficult this morning. If he wanted to ride Soarin' first thing he should have spoke up! That would have really annoyed me also. I hate when people don't want to have anything to do with the planning, and then complain about how the day is going! :headache:

The University of MD looks beautiful!

It really was a pretty campus. I can't imagine what it looks like when the entire student body is there. It really is very different to view things in the summer.

Speaking of beautiful, love those pictures you got during your run! What a great spot!

I used some of the photobucket edits for those pictures and I think the enhancements turned out pretty cool. I didn't know I stopped and took all those pictures. Gee - makes you wonder how much running I actually did that day? :rolleyes1

HOORAY for making rope drop again!! But too bad your plan wasn't to everyone's tastes. :sad2: I love how it's ok when they get fastpasses for everyone without first asking though...

Good point! :rolleyes1 Yeah - we definitely had some communication issues that morning. I mean, it was obvious I stood in a decent sized line to get in. I wish my brother had just said something then. Oh well. It all turned out good in the end.

At least you had a fun Dismeet! how exciting!

I was so excited to see Jen again and to finally meet Anita, Marc, and Baylor. Definitely a highlight of the morning.

Loved the SE ride along! Can't wait to do it in person!! :thumbsup2

And how much longer is that exactly? ;) I know its getting really close now!

Just checked - wow - just under 3 weeks! Woo Hoo! :cheer2:

:woohoo:Yay for a dismeet. We have met Anita and Mark before. Very nice people. It sounds like it couldn't have happened at a better time for you.

They are very nice, aren't they? They really are Mr and Mrs Disney! And, you're right, it happened at exactly the right time!!!!!! :rolleyes1 In fact, the timing couldn't have been any better.

:Oh no, I hope Soarin went well. I get motion sick but that ride never does it to me.

It action went fine. I just had to put that little teaser there at the end of my update. Everyone really loved it and there was especially touching moment that followed that I will share in one my next updates.

:Love the Spaceship Earth pictures. We always ride it several times each trip.

It really is one of my favorite rides and it always brings back memories of when my kids where younger. They always really enjoyed that ride. There was something so mystical about going back in time and then being flung forward.

I'm loving all of the pictures. It's almost as good as being there. LOL!!

For some reason Spaceship Earth pictures really do conjure up that "I feel like I am there" impression. It's pretty cool, but when I see those pics I smell those burning embers.

I am usually the family sherpa. Although when it comes to the big stuff, DH usually ends up carrying them. LOL!!

I have always been the family sherpa. It's my camera bag that is most annoying because it tends to get heavy and awkward. My bagellini back pack is easy to tote around. Usually I start get annoyed with all my bags a few days into a trip. I just feel like they slow me down.

Yay for rope drop! Even though is annoys my guys we love doing rope drop!!

It is a tad annoying at the start of the day because it feels so claustophobic. But then it gets so much better when everyone spreads out. :thumbsup2

new reader here, I have read almost all of your trip reports and really enjoyed them. Can't wait to read about your Oct trip, as we just made our plans for Oct 2013!! I had to post because I'm pretty sure I have eaten at that restaurant in Kent Narrows. Our church ladies used to have a retreat up there every spring and I think we ate at every restaurant they have!!
Just wanted to drop in and say Hi!
Tiffany

Thanks. Now if I could just get the nervous knot out of my stomach. I know it will all work out, but I want it to work out in the best possible scenario.

It will

Well, for your information I went completely bag free that evening. I know. I know. It's hard to believe. But it was raining and I knew I had to stage an intervention on myself. :rotfl:

was Denny the sherpa?

:lmao: I want picture proof. LOL!

Jeff should know you well enough by now to realize that he better communicate his plans. He knows you have everything scheduled to the minute. What was he thinking???????

Well, I actually didn't have anything scheduled to the minute but had never considered that he might! And, as much as it pains me to admit, he may have been right.

I think he did want to relish it because it some small way I think he was still irritated with me for planning the trip and "making" him come. I feel like that seed was still somewhere in the back of his mind.

probably, human nature.

A Total positive distraction. It was really great to meet them and to see Jen again. I will miss her in October. She just has such a positive, gentle vibe to her.

me too, but a very good reason!

If its a private school she'll get money because they give $ to everyone with decent grades, particularly if she plays a sport. Nick has some contact with a coach for a local private catholic university who has already encouraged him to apply now (early) for the best chance at scholarship $. A small school is OK, but I think he wants an active on campus life.

Yeah, we will see, right now Seattle U is by far the highest but has a decent chance of getting money. If not, it's off the list if you ask me! I think U of O is the most expensive public on her list and again, would be off if she doesn't get some $$. It is early though, it will be interesting to see how the college ID camps go but Cal Poly and Gonzaga are at least more manageable $$ wise and Gonzaga has a good chance at $$. Cal Poly is probably the top choice right now program wise. I can't blame Nick for wanting an active campus life. For in state, K really only has 2 options she's remotely considering (though there are 5 state schools) and UW has become crazy hard to get into. She has a good chance but I'm not sure she's all that interested in going there. probably b/c both her mom and I went there and she wants her own thing. LOL! WSU has a great Ag program but again, she doesn't seem to have any interest in attending there. Which, based on location I get. So that puts her out of state or private. UGH.

Sounds like a lot of nice options.

A close friend's son, whose SATs were lower than Nicks, got $ there. Plus Nick is taking AP Calc 2/3 this year and AP Physics, so his curriculum is actually a little bit more challenging than said kid.

Have nothing to lose by applying except the application fee! Which do add up. Is he able to do the bulk application thing where you do one mater application and then can send it a bunch of places? Is he going to have to get all of these in by 11/1?

:rotfl2: That was a bad bag day for me. I was so sick of carrying that stuff around that day.

I wasn't referring to the bags themselves as much as what it appeared you might have been doing while taking that picture.
omgblinky.gif
:rolleyes1

Whoo hoo rope drope again! :woohoo: I have to say, all your morning run pictures make me really excited to run while staying on property in the future. They just make the place seem so quiet and peaceful. The shots of DTD are beautiful!

Yikes, more drama. Guess that was to be expected... At least the situation didn't end horribly because you had a DISmeet. They are always so much fun, and it is amusing to run into fellow DISers when you're with people who are surprised with the meets. My mom got a kick out of it last May when I saw folks I recognized. :goodvibes

I'm curious to see how Soarin' went for you. I've never had an issue with the ride, but Alex gets horrible motion sickness on it, so I'm always interested to see if it has a negative effect on others.

WOOT WOOT...you made a second ROPE DROP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry it wasn't a better start to the day with your brother. But love that you had a DIS meet and you remembered the picture for proof it did happen.

I can't wait to hear whether everyone survived "Soarin".

I was going to do replies, but I am still laughing too hard after reading Glenn's reply. :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

I need to go compose myself!
