Will We Need a Separate Card to Get the 10% Merch and Dining AP Discounts?

We've got our MBs but I've read that there's a separate card we should have to get all the discounts available to AP holders. Is this the case and if so where/how do we get them and will each of us need one?

Thanks,
Bill From PA

There is no longer a separate golden discount card but there is an AP passholder card. You get them when you activate your AP. If your AP is already activated, stop at any ticket booth or guest relations (ticket booth is usually faster if it's a park where you pass them) and ask them for a replacement AP card which is free. Make sure everyone is there and everyone 18 and over has their ID with them.

I recommend getting it, it's much faster for them to see the current style AP card and apply the discount then it is for them to look up your information from your band, confirm and then finish the sale.

We got the discount card when we upgraded to APs at guest services. Then we got another set of cards when we ordered our AP magic bands (not the resort magic bands, we ordered another set to go with our APs)

And almost without exception we needed to show the other card AND photo ID

We had to show the card and ID too every time for discount. At one place the lady insisted my 12 yr old show ID when she was making a purchase - she kept telling her she was 12 and didn't have ID and the lady said she didn't care - no ID no discount. I finally heard and stepped up and showed my card and ID. I told the lady she needed to check on that because most children do not have ID. It was a store on Main St in MK. Crazy!

I was kind of wondering what would happen for kids. Of course, my DS didn't have charging privileges and didn't carry around money (he was 10 our last trip), so it never came up.

The crazy thing is that I often used the card we got when we first upgraded to APs. It was June 2015. I think the card said something like "2015 passholder." Our passes expired on June 19, 2016 and we left June 21. We bought some stuff on June 21st and showed the card and got the discount.
Maybe I shouldn't have done that ethically, but I was NEVER asked when my AP expired by any CM ringing up a discount.

Yea you'll need your AP card and ID (if old enough) to get the AP discount. Very rare they give you the discount without having your AP card.

Only time I got my AP discount without having my AP card on me was in Epcot at MouseGears. Guy ringing me up saw my magic band that I customized with New Orleans Saints logos and asked where I got it thinking it was available in the park. He pointed to his name tag showing he's from New Orleans and that he was a Saints fan as well. Forgot I didn't have my AP card on me and he said "that's ok, you're a Saints fan so I'll let it slide" and took the percentage off.

Also keep in mind that if a CM sees someone else handing you money to pay for an item with your discount they can refuse the sale. So if you're doing that it's best to get the money before or after you leave the store

I don't understand the difference. Is it just the color?

This really isn't complicated. Disney discontinued the discount card in oct 2015 and now your passholder ticket is both your ticket (if you want to use it like that) and the discount card. It just says passholder on it with your name written in on the back. Just showing the card (and they should ask for your id) is how you get the discounts.

The Oct. 2015 explains a lot. I renewed Sept. 2015 and got my discount card when I went to a park. The CM gave me the discount card and then said let me get you your AP card. I told her no need since at the time I didn't realize they weren't one and the same thing. It never mattered since I use my MB to get in and out of the parks and used the discount card for, well, discounts. I'm guessing if (silly of course that should be when since I'm pretty sure I'm renewing) I renew this year I'll just get an AP card?

I like it a lot better this way. Less to carry around, since I travel with a smaller wallet on my trips.

OP, you'll just need this yellow card and your ID. It's always good to travel with the hard ticket in your wallet in case you lose your magic band or it doesn't work for some reason. Also, you can have your magic band scanned when driving to Disney parks for free admission. A lot quicker than pulling out the card :)

LOL!! It now all makes sense.

I never did understand the "purpose" of the separate "discount card" they were giving Passholders in addition to the actual Passholder card.

Seemed very redundant.
When I upgraded to an AP (in 2014) my MYW "tickets" we're just electronic and accessed through the Magic Band. So my AP was also electronic and I never got a discount card until I received my AP Magic bands later.

At the time, seemed like a number of Passholders had no card at all. This was very confusing when the only "proof" you had an AP was your MDE account, but there was supposed to be Passholders discounts outside of WDW.

It makes a lot more sense to require a card being handed out at every AP purchase.

You should always get a hard ticket AP card. I have never been without an AP card whether I got online or in person. If you don't have one go to a GR and get one. For now this is your proof for AP discounts and in event of your MB or MDE crashing on you, this is your ticket, your proof. I'm not handing over $700-800 and depend on "electronics", I want my card.

I keep in my wallet/bag but only pull out for discounts ........ or for when my MB crashed at the park gate.

I've never taken the time to stop at guest relations to get a card, all my AP stuff has been electronic on MDE. On my most recent trip in July I was asked to open my MDE account on my phone and show the CM that I was an AP holder to get discounts. This worked from restaurants to mini golf. The only place it didn't work was at the Yak and Yeti b/c she said she needed the actual AP number since they weren't technically Disney owned.

We had APs from spring 2014-2015 and we were not given a discount card. We only received the pass card and we used that at stores - no one ever asked to see the discount card. Good thing since I had no idea such a thing existed.

The AP discount card was always shipped in the magic band box below the cardboard holding the bands. If you take the cardboard out that's when the bands and AP magic band sliders were

That would explain it then, as we never ordered the separate annual pass magic bands.

Anyone know how the parking in the parks works? mBs or the plastic AP ticket to get the free parking?
