Will we like it in January?

We've just changed our plans from going this September to January 2006. We'll probably be there around Jan 7 -15th?

Help?! Can anyone give me info on what to expect regarding:

** weather
** ride closings
** crowds
**swimming: is it too cold?

Hey there. We were just there that exact time this year. The weather was a bit unseasonably cool and we did have a day of steady rain (we were at MK so it was dead - very nice)!

Dumbo, Small World and a few others were closed but still TONS were open. Disney Marketplace was dead and eating was EASY! I don't think I would've felt like going to a water park even though the water is heated, the air was cold. Maybe the hotel pool would be nice though since you don't have to get wet, get out, get wet, get out, you know, the water park circuit.

I would go again that time of year in a heartbeat! Great airfare, car rental price and nice hotel discounts. I guess not many people take their kids out of school right after the holiday recess. (but we did!)

We've been twice in early/mid January in the last couple years. Crowds were very low. One water park is always down for refurbishment, and some rides will be as well. The allearsnet.com website usually has good listings for what is scheduled to be closed for refurbishment. The weather is always variable, but during our stays, temperatures have been mild and pleasant, even downright warm at times. It's always possible that you could hit a cold spell, but cold in Florida still isn't the same as cold in New England. If the weather is mild, swimming is a definite possibility, since all the pools are heated. It isn't the swimming itself that can be cold, it's the air temperature when you get out that really counts.

We went in Jan. of 2004, and really had a great time. It was cold at times, especially in the early morning and after the sun went down, but the rest of the time it was very moderate. I was comfortable in a long sleeve T-shirt and jeans, and my warm-natured husband even wore shorts under his sweatshirt and T-shirt a couple of days. It rained a bit here and there, but nothing major. The only time the cold really bothered us was when we were sitting on the curb waiting for Spectro to start. The concrete was freezing, and I sent my husband into the Main Street Emporium behind us to buy the stadium blanket we had seen earlier in the afternoon. So, you may want to pack a blanket to take with you to make waiting for the parades and fireworks a bit more comfortable. Crowds are low, and we never waited a long time for anything. We were even offered a table at CRT for breakfast w/o a PS! (We had just stopped by to look at the lunch menu, and the hostess said they had tables available for breakfast!) I know there were some rides down for refurbishment, but I don't remember which ones, so obviously they weren't major ones. I loved going in January, and I wouldn't hesitate to go at that time of year again!

We've been the last 3 years in Jan. The weather is really hard to predict - anywhere from freezing to 80 degrees We like the low crowds. It's not quite as slow as Sept., but close! At least you won't have to worry about hurricanes!

I believe it was 2003 - in the low 30's. 04 and 05 weren't nearly that cold!

Temperature can vary. When my sister and I went in 2004 it was mostly in the 50's (30's in the mornings), but the year before, her friend went and it was in the 70's.

The crowds were low. My sister swears that it will be the only time she'll go.

I don't distinctly remember any rides being closed, except those at the Wonders of Life. But ride closings will depend on what Disney has planned for reservations.

As for swimming, we never swam, but the pools were hot. You could tell because it was "steaming." I mean you could swim, but at the temps we encountered, and being on the 4th floor, the time it would take to get to the room, we would of froze.

Mostly it was a good trip. I would only suggest you bring hats and gloves just in case.

Hi Trix. By cool I meant 50s and a little damp feeling from the rain so it may have felt like 40s. Glad we did not have the 30s weather while we were there. Really any time of year would be great just not always for swimming or water parks.

Have a great time!! We'll be there in late Nov early Dec right before you and I am hoping for super weather myself!

I was there January 2004 and loved it. Low crowds, no closures that bothered us. We're from WI so we're used to cold. They were predicting mid 50s during the day and into the 40s in the evening. Heat wave for us in January! But one thing I will tell you is that it's a damp cold and I wasn't prepared for that. I wish I had dressed warmer because that damp cold just settles into you. Brrrr.....
