My MIL is paying for our whole family to go to DW. I am helping her plan for Thanksgiving of next year and she chose to stay at the CBR. My question is, will we all like it? We have 5 adults all over the age of 40 and two boys ages 13 and 10. I tried to talk her into POR since my dh and I stayed there last year and loved it but, I have seen the pictures of CBR and I am not too keen on it. Tell me that I am wrong! Also, do you think this resort is too big?

Thanks

It all depends what you like in a resort. We stayed at CBR for our first on site visit a few years ago and loved it. The resort is big but I felt that getting where you wanted to go (food court, bus stops, pools, etc.) didn't take long. There is a bus stop and pool on each 'island'. We stayed in Jamaica which looks far from the food court and main pool on the map but it was only a 5 minute walk. Our bus stop was about 1-2 minutes and it was the first one in the resort - very easy. The bus route may have changed in the last few years though. We really liked it but everyone is different. We haven't stayed at POR so I can't compare them for you. I will say that we stayed at Pop and CBR is much much nicer/easier than Pop.

Disney is always great and when your MIL is paying its even better :-)

Tigger,

My DW and I stayed at CBR earlier this year and loved it. Very nice. My take on all of the various resorts is: if you are the type of person that dreams of a vacation to the Carribean, or New Orleans, or an Aztec villiage, etc., stay at the corresponding resort. We love the beach and tropical theme, so we love CBR. (We’d probably also enjoy the other moderates as well. They all seem nice and fun.) :cool1:

As for being too large, CBR is big, but not unmanagable by any means. We enjoyed walking across the bridge to OPR, and following the boardwalk around the lake for a walk to watch the Illuminations fireworks from a beach chair. Might be nicer during the spring, but even during the dead of summer the grounds should still be nicely kept, just not as many blooming flowers. :flower:

Also, check out the CBR FAQ thread.

CBR is my favorite moderate resort at WDW. The resort is just wonderful I love the tropical feeling/theming it has. Here are some great things about CBR:

-Largest moderate rooms on Disney property
-Beautiful lake that you can rent various watercraft on
-Hammocks on the beaches
-You can see the higher shells from Illuminations
-It is a 5 minute ride to MGM and Epcot is not much further
-Pools at every "Island"
-Large (over a mile) walking/running/biking path
-Buildings are only two stories and have cute courtyards in them with benches/tables
-Busstops at all Islands and OPR (foodcourt/giftshop/main pool area).

If you are not paying for preferred rooms than you might want to request either Jamaica or Aruba they are across the lake from OPR and are fabulous locations. I prefer Jamaica building 44.

You might also want to checkout the CBR frequently asked questions that safetymom put together for more reviews or specfic questions.

CBR is a beautiful resort. I have stayed at the other moderates and CBR is our favorite. I agree with the great information you have already received.

You might want to read through the CBR FAQ's listed below. I also have lots of pictures from the resort.

You truly feel like you have escaped to the islands when you stay at CBR.

we just returned monday from a great 7-night stay at CBR ... loved this resort and we are huge fans of PO-RS.

food court/gift shop/marina was great ... buses were plentiful and resort is centrally located ... very close to epcot/mgm/typhoon lagoon. can see some of the epcot fireworks. nice having full-service restaurant on property (though we didnt eat there)

main pool was fun ... quiet pools were quiet.

only negative i can think of is that pool slide wasnt as slippery as at PO-FQ or PO-RS ... maybe its due for a resurfacing?

we opted for preffered room ... were in martinique building 26. resort is big, but so is PO-RS. preferred location was really great.

i just booked a 4-nite stay for my parents in december ... with AAA discount preferred room was $119. per nite vs. $135. for either sections at PO. PO does not have preferred rooms/buildings.

go with an open mind and you'll love it ... its disney how bad could it be?

I liked everything but the slide in the pool stinks! It's cement, you can't go fast and it rips your suit.

Tigger,

I was a bit aprehensive about staying at CBR at first, based on some mediocre reviews I read in a couple of guides.

I'm happy to report that whatever experiences caused those reviewers to disparage CBR didn't happen to us.

We (my wife and three -all under 10- daughters, just loved CBR.

The grounds were immaculate. The layout of the place, while large, not unmanageable, the CM's, polite and helpful, Old Port Royal: convenient, not too over-priced and the food's not half bad.

The rooms were large and comfortable ans well-maintained.

Everybody has their own preferences as where to stay. We choose Trinidad South, with a bay view. Very happy about that.

Trinidad South is the furthest away, which makes it the quietest. And the walk to Port Royal wasn't that bad, 10 minutes tops. ask for Building 34,35 or 36, which are extremely close to the bus stop.

We stayed at CBR for our first family trip to WDW and loved it. The whole atmosphere is so tranquil. Very relaxing after a long day at the parks. My kids (then 8 and 5) loved playing in the sand and swimming in the pool at OPR. I too found the slide a little too gritty for a good slide down, but that is my only complaint. We stayed in Martinique....just a hop, skip and a jump from OPR and a bus stop. Great view of the water etc. Loved it. We will probably return in 2007.
