Well I am starting to think that this trip may be doomed :sad1:

DD1 has just finished a course of anti b's for some type of infection and although quite poorly last week is now fine but in the night DD2 has been sick twice

She is now sat watching telly and recovering but I am feeling slightly queasy, I'm hoping it's just down to having to carry out the 'clean up operation' in DD2's bedroom

Anyway, this is not just a moan, I do actually have a question. We take a first aid kit with us on all our hols but the one thing I don't seem to have in there is a remedy for a child's upset stomach :confused3 It's not something we have ever used at home either and so just wondered if anyone could recommend anything or whether it is just a case of letting her get on with it......

Thanks guys and PLEASE keep everything crossed for us, this time tomorrow we should be at the airport......

Hi Ali,

Hope she is okay, I would suggest drinking plenty of water which helps flush and ease the digestive system. It may not necessarily have immediate effect but it works.
Peppermint Tea, if she is old enough to drink, is also good for these conditions.
Apples which are full of 'pectin' which stimulates elimination of unwanted virus's are also useful to try. Sucking on boiled sweets and candy is also worth trying.

Avoid creamed products such as soup and milk (will not settle the stomach and will have the reverse affect).

Assuming all is well and you arrive safely in Orlando, I can highly recommend this Pedialyte Oral Electrolyte Maintenance Solution
for children.
Comes in various different flavours and is usually available at Publix or a good chemist, it is not something you would need a prescription for, soothing stomach medicine for kids, and tastes nice.
We have used it before, it is a safe, high quality product for children and can also be used as a recovery top up once she is feeling fully recovered. People at the likes of Walgreen's spoke very highly of this stuff and would have no problems and worries in recommending it to you.

see link at Garden Grocer for picture, bottom 2 products:

We used peptobismuth when DD was 5 and we were due to fly home from Spain, but she had diarrhea rather than sickness. (I think they may have raised the age limits on this medication recently).

Otherwise avoid any fat or dairy products. Dry toast with jam and plenty of weak squash to drink was my standby when the kids were ill. (It might help you to nibble on something dry if you're feeling queazy.)

Good luck with tomorrow.

Thanks guys :goodvibes

She is sipping some water and watching tv at the moment, don't want to rush her into eating anything just yet so I'll see how she goes today.....

I hope it is something she has eaten and not a bug but unless one of us gets ill, I guess there's no way of knowing :confused3 Really wouldn't want to spread a sickness bug around the plane :confused3

See how we go.......

Thanks again for the advice.

 really hope its just a 24 hr thing and everyone is fighting fit by tomorrow morning !!!

JohnnySharp's suggestion for peppermint tea is great! Another one is fennel. It has a slight liquorice aftertaste but I was told to give it to my DD who was an early baby at a few weeks in a teaspoon so it is quite safe. If she doesn't like the taste, you can mix it with apple juice.

This goes for you too if you don't feel too good. Ginger tea is also great and you can infuse your own with chunks of ginger root, leave to steep in boiling water and drink as tea (add honey if you need).

Dont worry about your little one not wanting to eat. Her body is still clearing the toxins out and she will tell you when she is ready. As long as she is drinking plenty fluids she'll be fine.

Get well soon! :goodvibes:flower3:

If it's any further source for comfort a few years ago we were at the Emergency Doctor at 1am in the morning getting penicillin for Joshua who was unwell with a virus - on the morning we were due to go on holiday.
Dr said "you aren't going to America".

After about 3 hours sleep we awoke, he was just starting to wake too and we were like thinking what do we do? Although Joshua cannot talk we talk to him like he can (if you know what I mean), I asked him does he want to "go to Disney"? He sat up and went for his shoes.....bless him, and we went, he was fine on the flight and we had a great holiday.

Good luck anyway *by the way I agee about the fennel*
