will we be bored?

As so many others have noted, it is nearly impossible to get bored on a Disney ship. When my daughter and I wanted to take our first Disney cruise, my husband was concerned it would be too Disney and he would get bored. Six cruises later, he is the first one in line to book our next one. When we want to go meet character's (not just for kids) he goes and does what he wants and we meet up later. Our biggest issue is having to decide what to do as they offer so much. One terrific category is the family friendly activities which appeal to both kids and adults...you don't have to have kids to enjoy participating in them. We are rarely in our cabin, just to shower and sleep because we simply don't want to waste a minute not being out and about. It is amazing how quickly the days go by. We can highly recommend Disney Cruise's for adults.

My husband and i have decided to book our first cruise. We don't really know much about cruising at all, and having read many threads on this board in particular, i am not sure there will be enough adult events to do.

Are we goung to be stuck just doing a lot of sitting around? I can see that there is a lot to do for kids, duh it is a Disney cruise after all, but i am concerned that i'll be bored.

We dont have passports and wont be able to get them in time to sail, so we dont plan on leaving the ship in Nassau.

I've never been bored on a cruise. If you are worried about not enough activities, look at other cruise lines. Royal Caribbean is a cheaper alternative with a similar product (on their newer ships). I've never found myself bored on a Disney ship, but I did notice that the ship tend to quiet down earlier than RCCL & Carnival. There isn't a ton to do mid-day on any cruise line as they anticipate most people laying out on deck. There are tastings and seminars offered during the day, but there isn't a non-stop program of them all day long.

Take your birth certificate with you for the cruise (once you are on the ship put it someplace safe as you won't need it again until it's time to clear customs on debarkation day). You will need it to get on the ship. You can get off the ship in Nassau without a passport. You'll need a photo ID and your KTTW card to get back to the ship at the port, but passports aren't necessary.

You might be bored. DCL cruises are geared for families with kids, but plenty of childless adults sail with Disney. However, in many cases those folks are big Disney fans and enjoy the characters, shows, etc. Are you Disney fans?

We'll agree to disagree on this one. Think about the quiet cove, the bars, the mixology classes and tastings, the conferences, serenity bay (adults only), Remy and Palo,--none of them screams Disney-- + all the fun stuff adults can still enjoy like sports, movies, shows, and all the different excursions at the ports... Even the Aquaduck!

We noticed kids because we were on Deck 5. LOL

I think the only way you could be bored is if you choose not to participate in any activities. I've been on 3 DCL cruises with the longest this past year for 5 days. It had bad weather (high winds) which kept us from docking at CC. That gave us 3 sea days. Even on a last minute sea day, we weren't bored. DH loves to people watch and I love walking the main deck for the views and air. I've done the Dream and the Wonder and loved them both. The service was great on both but superior on the Wonder. The Dream did have more "to do" just because it's a bit bigger and has more bells and whistles but it wasn't by leaps and bounds.
We don't drink and we don't really do clubs. I'd rather get up at dawn and watch the sunrise than stay up until 2 am. If there was a brief period of nothing to do on the ship, a quick walk around usually resulted in a surprise Character dance party we didn't know about, a class that got added to the schedule, an interesting person to watch or a crew member who loves to talk. Even if we were just sitting around, the crew was always there and happy to talk for a few minutes. Just like in WDW, they love to talk about their homes, family and stuff about the ship. I found this consistent on both ships.
If you have the opportunity to get your passports before, do it. It's not that you "have" to have them but they do make life a little easier. Plus they are good for 10 years which means more cruises. :-)

DH and I cruised the Fantasy for our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it - especially the sea days when we were otherwise stuck on the ship. We aren't into characters, but some of the things we did:

*Mixology & Champagne tastings
*Anyone Can Cook cooking demonstration
*Watched the crawling baby race in the atrium (don't miss it!)
*Burned through 6+ movies on demand in our stateroom
*Played midship detective & Disney trivia
*Enjoyed the pool & rainforest room at the spa
*Explored the ship, including kids clubs during open house times (those places are soooooooo cool)

That, and a whole bunch of naps. It was the best vacation we've ever taken!

We took DS on a 3-night Bahamas for his birthday back in December. Since it was "his" trip, we intended to spend the bulk of it with him and really didn't think he'd want to stay in the kids clubs much.....boy were we wrong! He'd go in at night and we'd practically have to drag him out right before they closed. We were still "scared" we'd go do something adults only and as soon as we'd get there we would get a wave phone call and have to go get him, so we never went to the adults only areas. Even without doing that, we were NEVER bored. We browsed the shops, explored the ship, enjoyed some quiet time on our extended balcony (or tried to, but ended up striking up a nice conversation with the balcony above ours). There were also more adult oriented (as in kids would be bored) movies playing on board during the day. Of course, we also learned that when we cruise to Alaska next summer we won't have to worry about him calling to leave the kids clubs and will check out those adult only areas. There is plenty to do that adults can enjoy on a DCL cruise. I honestly prefer the Disney shows on board to the Vegas style shows of some of the other lines.
