Will we be able to get a 2-bedroom over Christmas?

Hello, everyone. I'm pretty sure that my DH's parents are going to go to WDW with us for Christmas this year. They're going to let me know before the 29th to let me know for sure so that I can switch our 1-bedroom to a 2-bedroom. We have contracts at two different resorts, so we have to wait until the 7 month mark to have access to all of our points. We're planning on being there 12/22-12/29. Since DFIL has mobility issues we really want to stay at BWV or BCV (we own at BWV but have not yet stayed there) for the ease of access to Epcot and Disney Studios.

Does anyone think that I'll have a problem getting a 2-bedroom? The waiting, as I'm sure you all understand, is just killing me.

If it were me, I'd book as many days as I had points at the BWV asap - I'd even splurge on the 2 bedroom. If in-laws couldn't go, we'd just have extra room, that's all. I'd probably borrow BWV points to get as many nights as I could before the 7 month window opens and everyone else got a crack at the BWV for that week. (Could bank the BCV points to use on the next trip if necessary).

If there wasn't availability, I'd get on the waitlist asap - no sense being in line behind other members if it isn't necessary. Then I'd call day by day at the 7 month mark to fill in any days I didn't have enough points to reserve with BWV points.

Good luck!

I wouldn't count on it. I've been on the waitlist to upgrade my Thanksgiving 2007 reservation from 1 b/r to a 2 b/r at BWV since December and it still hasn't come through. Christmas-NYE is the busiest time of the year. Can you borrow points to make a reservation right away? Otherwise, you'll be fortunate to book SSR.

Just booked a 2 bedroom at BC earlier today for the 17th - 26th of December. It can be done, but the sooner is the better. Good luck :tinker:

Unfortunately, our points are pretty much split evenly between BWV and SSR so until I can use both at one place we don't have enough for either.

Actually, I wouldn't mind staying at SSR either. DH just thought BWV would be better on his parents.

Why don't you try to book the whole trip now, half at BWV and the other half at SSR? You would at least at this point know if either is available, if only for half of the days you need. You can then try to switch to one or the other at 7 months. Not sure if this is feasible for you, but just a suggestion. Good luck with your trip.

I think this is what I'm going to do. I'll probably book the first 4 nights at SSR and the last 3 at BWV. This works out better pointwise so that I don't loose 5 points which we will if we stay at BWV first. Or should I not care about the 5 points and just stay 4 nights at BWV / 3 at SSR?

Do I sound like a mess? I feel like a mess...

Whether on points or cash, I would strongly suggest trying to make some kind of ressies as soon as possible. Christmas holiday season is definitely a sell out throughout the Disney properties. Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for helping me get my head in the right place...out of the clouds and back on my shoulders where it belongs. So, I'll be calling in the morning for 4 nts at BWV and 3 nts at SSR. Then I can always call back at the 7 month mark and see about switching them all to BWV. Even if that doesn't happen it'll be a great vacation. Busy, busy, busy followed by rest and relaxation...and shopping.

We never really have problems booking at the 7 month mark (and even later), but then again, we like 1-bedrooms which seem to be the last to sell out. We'll NEVER do a studio again. I'm spoiled! I WANT my king size bed AND my washer and dryer!!!

We just need a 2-bedroom this time for the grandparents to go with us. And even if they don't go, I'm sure our teenager will enjoy having the whole studio part to herself. This could, possibly, be her last WDW trip with us since she'll be 16 this year and we're taking a cruise for our 2008 Christmas vacation when she's 17. She may decide that she's too "old" to go to WDW once she turns 18.

A split stay like above is a excellent opportunity to use the DDP. You can get it for only three or four days and not be overwhelmed. We enjoy the DDP during the first half of the trip because you have until midnight of your check out day to use your DDP credits.

Yeah. that's what we said on our very first stay at BWV - at cash rate, yet, as we thought it was "just this once" and he would decide he was "too old" to vacation with parents. HA!! We ended up buying into DVC, he took trips with us (and brought along a buddy) right up through the 2nd year of college when school schedules and summer jobs kept him back. I believe his reaction when I asked him if he was too old to go with us senior year was something like: "Let me think about this - a resort, hanging out by the pool, great food, entertainment, girls in bathing suits - Why would I not want to go? :lmao:

He's out now with his first post-college job. He's scheduled to go with us again in October:cool2:

Don't count on your daughter not going with you. And you can bet she will love that 2nd bedroom. We got it once and never went back to a 1 bedroom when DS was with us.

Well, I'm HOPING she'll still want to go with us for years and years and years. She has a little brother 13 years younger so that might be reason enough to keep hanging out with the parents.

If you brought her up right, you raised her as a Disney fanatic, too. :)

I never got to Disney the first time until I was 17, almost 18. The rest is history. When I was financially able to, I started to take my parents with me to Disney! They had two great trips there before my dad got ill and passed on. Some kids never get too old to spend time with their parents.

Deja Vu...except I never got to WDW until I was 26, almost 27. We started to take my parents with us at that point too, until their health made that impossible. We (DD, grandparents, and DW and I) had many memorable experiences in the meantime.

Well...Plan A is dead in the water and Plan B is in a holding pattern.

I called member services right when they opened this morning and there was no availability for BWV for all of the first 4 night or the last 3 nights. We're just going to have to wait until May 29 to try to book the entire stay at SSR. I'm not going to book any of the SSR dates yet because, just in case we don't get the 2-bedroom for the entire stay, I don't want to have to borrow from our 2008 SSR points if they won't be used.

This is just another example, I guess, of people not realizing how DVC works. We heard "I don't know" and "I'm not quite sure, but maybe" to "Probably" to (finally) "We'd love to go" too late to do anything about it.

We haven't mentioned Plan C (not going with us) to them yet. We'll just have to see how things work out...

Well, I called earlier today and made our 2 bedroom reservation at SSR. I probably won't try to move elsewhere because my FIL smokes and will need an ECV for his disability. I figure it will be easier (and faster) for him to get to the designated smoking areas if we stay at SSR.
