Will this end up being the pandemic that cried wolf?

Why? Help me understand. I’m genuinely curious.
Almost every person on here has a screen name. Does that mean that all of our opinions are invalid? Because we don’t have any real names behind the ideas or opinions?

Honest question...has anyone ever studied natural immunity after getting influenza as opposed to immunity from a vaccine?
Honest answer-extensively. That's a significant part of vaccine development. In terms of your immune system there is NO difference between immunity conferred 'naturally' and by vaccine-the vaccine simply triggers the same response to produce antibodies that having the illness does-drawing a titer six months after a vaccination simply tells the doctor that you have antibodies-unless those antibodies are to a disease with no vaccination there is no way to tell whether you had the disease or a vaccine. You are quiet lucky that you went 10 years without another case of influenza. My son and dauther in llaw both got the vaccine this year and still had the flu because the vaccine didn't provide immunity to the strain they were exposed to.

Why? When those very people have brought it up on THIS thread? We're not allowed to reply to something said here? Sorry, not going to happen.
If you'd follow the quotes in the discussion between @BuckeyeBama and myself, HE said we should not use extreme examples of what people have said because those people are outliers. OK, that's fine. But that should be a two way street. If one can't bring up those who advocate being in lockdown until a vaccine is ready or those who say "lock EVERYONE down for a month" (and yes, both of those have been mentioned repeatedly on this board) then the other side shouldn't be able to bring up those who say "it's ok to let people die." Either extremes are allowed or their not.

Just my opinion of course. :D

OK, here‘s my take on your original post.
What‘s the cite? Links never hurt. Whose opinion is it and what are that person’s qualification?
Those that post here have some degree of history here despite the fact we have no clue who they are IRL. That posting history might lead you or me to trust some and doubt others.

BTW - I don't presume to tell people what they can post. I just think that when you choose to take extreme positions, it leads to roadblocks in communication instead of meaningful discourse.

I agree with the bolded. I just don't think it's right to say "this extreme should be ignored because it's an extreme, but the opposite extreme should be vilified every chance we get." YMMV of course.

My apologies, you had been quoting me prior to that and missed you had quoted somebody else. I thought it was in relation to my posts you had been quoting. That is my bad.

And I agree with you, everybody should be able to respond to whatever they want. It does just frustrate me when people post things 44 pages in that have been extensively discussed for the prior 44 pages as though it’s new information.

But that all said, I feel like we’re all starting to talk in circles, just repeating the same things - myself included- like it’s somehow going to magically change somebody else’s mind. So I’m going to go take a break from this discussion and wish everybody well. I hope you all stay healthy & safe!

edit to remove a quote from another thread.

In more turning around opening up news, Oklahoma University announced they plan to have school in the fall.

conomy reasons are enough alone, but for those concerned about health/death when the dust settles. I imagine soon we will begin to hear stories about all the traumas that happen because people were afraid of going to the hospital or thought they would be too busy, had to go alone. not too mention the domestic abuse and alcoholism.
Add child abuse to the list also, or unreported child abuse cases. The Metro area I work for has seen a very, very sharp increase in domestic violence cases and child abuse reports have plummeted because the kids are out of school. The schools are the main reporters of abuse. These numbers were compared to the same 30 day period in 2019.

I live in a beach area of GA. Our beaches are not closed. They opened back up the week before Easter. The beaches are opened all day with only excercise. At first I was worried about it but really it has gone really well. DNR and state patrol manage everything. I go walk and enjoy the sunshine almost everyday. We are not having any problems with that. And even though our state started to open back up today, most restaurants have sent out messages that they are going to hold off until May. I will say we have a lot of New Yorkers here right now. There is a 30 day minimum to rent houses here so that is what they are doing. I see all the New York tags at the grocery stores and beach parking lots. So onto the “peak”. My father was scheduled to have heart surgery in early April in Atlanta. Of course it got cancelled but they called last week to reschedule the surgery for today. He asked them if GA had met the peak and they said we did on April 7th. (This is emory hospital) They did say they were expecting another surge this week. I feel like the GA hospitals must have everything under control if they were offering my dad a surgery date. We decided to wait and re schedule in May because my mom will be traveling with us and they are both 70. I keep reading about my poor state being the guinea pig...in a good way and bad. I really feel our Governor wants to give us a choice. You can open with severe restrictions or you can wait. It is your choice. Just like it is mine if I decide I want to go eat there. I can get the virus from going thru the cvs drive thru to pick up prescriptions, touching my mailbox after the post man comes, or going to the grocery store. Don’t assume Georgians are a bunch idiots. Just because we are getting in the first phase of going back to work doesn’t mean everyone is out on the town right now. Lots of restrictions are in place along with these openings.

Your past your peak for both new cases and daily deaths.

You realize that the people who organized the protests in MI are the crazy anti-vaxxers, right? You know, the folks who believe that the Sandy Hook school bombing in CT was faked?

I get that you are frustrated, but that protest was not about what you think it was about.

They're the ones that got the national attention, but I wouldn't call them representative of anything. I know a fair number of people who took part in the protests (but didn't get their pictures in the news because they followed the organizers' plan of "stay in your car, maintain safe distance") and none fit that description. They're just small town small business owners and employees who object to their livelihoods being erased for dubious benefit. And if you ask them, the protest was successful - the governor relaxed the parts of the order they had the biggest problems with. Because they weren't protesting *all* social distancing, just asking for small businesses to get the same options being offered to bigger businesses and for lower-risk activities like lawn care to be allowed to continue.

The revised order has been cause for a LOT of celebration in my circles. The one and only thing I've heard ongoing complaints about is the fact that non-essential medical is still mostly closed. I really hope that changes soon because our medical systems are sinking and a lot of people are going without care that might not be essential to keep them alive this month or this year but the lack of which is definitely creating bigger problems and longer-term risks.

For those who were alive remember how we were told 100 million people would be infected from HIV over the next decade by the surgeon general, and that we could get it from drinking from a glass after someone. No one would touch an HIV patient. Princess Diana stunned everyone when she shook hands with an AIDS patient.

Also after 30 years still don't have a vaccine.

Yes HIV is not Sars (not equating the viruses at all) just pointing out things change dramatically and misinformation runs rampant in the early stages of a epidemic/pandemic, even more so with social media and news how it is today. Also interesting Fauci was also on the HIV/AIDS team back then.

I've been thinking about that a lot since this thing started. About all of the misinformation and fear of the early years of the AIDS epidemic, people being afraid of catching it from a public restroom or thinking their kids weren't safe in a classroom with an HIV positive child. I think social media has taken all of the fear that comes from the early uncertainty about a new disease and made it a million times worse.

Certainly, but this is the stuff that these organizers were putting out there. I doubt she agreed with nearly all of it:

I'm not sure where that flyer is from, but the date is wrong for the Michigan protests. They were the 15th.

You need to read other things besides conspiracy websites or just improve your comprehension skills. You admit you took part in a demonstration that hindered medical personnel from getting to work, you didn't social distance, you put yourself and the public at risk. Shame on you. You deserve the label given.

Most of the participants in the protest did social distance. They called it "operation gridlock" for a reason - they were never meant to get out of the car. I know some heavily armed blowhards did, but they weren't at all representative of the participants as a whole.

And both the local police/fire departments and the hospital made statements that the protest in no way interfered with normal operations. So maybe you ought to take your own advice and diversify your reading, because the whole "they interfered with a hospital" was a social media invention. And I've been really disappointed by some of the people spreading it, because many of us took part in another major protest/rally a couple Januarys ago that blocked that same road... and caught flack from people opposed to our "cause" because of it. So at least some of the people I saw spreading that line absolutely should have known better but shared it anyway.

I was recently surprised to find out that some universities never closed at all.

I had no idea either! Which universities remained open? Are they counting those who let students from other countries stay because of their student visas?

I mean a full schedule of classes. Earlier this month, Virginia Tech, Texas A+M, and Liberty U were still open; possibly some others as well.
