Will this be a problem?

This is transportation related, although not Disney, so I apologize in advance, but I'm hoping the expert travelers will have an answer for me.

My DD (age 18) and I are flying AirTran to NYC on Friday. She lost her driver's license last week - got a new one but it's a temporary. I wasn't sure if that would be a problem to use for ID, so I thought, "Okay, we'll just take her passport." Well, I got it out of the safe deposit box and when I looked at it, it expired in April of this year (she was 13 when we got it, so it was only valid for 5 years - for some reason I was thinking 7).
Anyway, will the temporary driver's license plus the expired passport be accepted? I can also bring her birth certificate, Social Security card, etc. if needed. Surely they won't deny her boarding, will they? Please reassure me!

Be prepared for some extra hassles and additional screening, but it should work out in the end.

She will be allowed to fly but arrive early, be patient and bring all of the above and more if you can find it. Check the TSA website to see how they address alternative forms of ID.

Some DMV's will issue a walking ID on the same day - if so I would definately take her to get one.

If she has any other type of photo ID I would bring that as well, perhaps a work or school ID?

Good luck

eta- Keep her carryon items simple, put all electronics, phone chargers, camera etc in your bag and have her carry as little as possible!

The expired passport is ok for one year past expiration as far as id for traveling PROVIDED you are not going out of the country.

I work for TSA.

Hey, Carriemel - has anybody told you lately how much we appreciate having you here providing factual information? :thumbsup2: Thanks!

I used a Costco membership card once and it wasn't a hassle.

98% of TSA people don't care.
