Will they let us have a cot?

We're heading out in a couple of days and are staying at Wilderness Lodge Villas (our first time there) in a 1 bedroom and we have a new sleeping arrangement for our family of four. DS has officially outgrown the travel cribs/pack and plays and DD7 is not thrilled about the idea of having to share the pullout sofa bed with him. I was hoping to get a cot for the room so she could have the pull out and he could have the cot but someone told me they don't think they'll let me have a cot. Is that true? Has anyone else come across this?

DVC villas generally do not provide cots. You can bring a blow up bed and bedding or tell the older one to suck it up.

There are some villas (AKV, BLT) that have sleeping for five so have three separate areas. That may be an option for the next trip.

I have read that they are doing a refurb of the WL DVC Villas to include a pull out cot. I have actually seen some pictures either here or another site simular to these and the cots are bambi themed. (They are like the ones at Grand Floridian and Port Orleans Riverside.)

Just did a little googling and found that they added these little Bambi themed pull out sleepers to the deluxe studio which now sleeps 5. It seems strange to me that they would put an extra sleeper in the studio but not in a one bedroom which still only sleeps 4 but costs almost $150 more a night. Well, we'll make it work no matter what but I was hoping to keep the peace by separating the kids at night. We are talking about a wiggly 2 year old after all who's not used to sleeping in such a large bed.

I would definitely bring a twin air mattress or other inflatable bed for the 2 year old. We picked up one for about $10 at Walmart and it has been perfect for our wiggly son when we travel. We even managed to fit it in the Animal Kingdom Value 1 Bedrooms which are tiny tiny tiny. Everyone needs a good night sleep while at Disney, it will be a good investment.

Could one of you sleep with the two year old and the other sleep with your older child? That seems like a good compromise.

This is actually what we plan on doing if them sleeping together just doesn't work out at all. We had a discussion with her about it the other night and told her that she would have to sleep with her brother but that the bed was a very big one (says the sleeper sofa is queen sized) and that I will make a pillow barricade between them. He'll probably need it as much as she will. We had to share a bed with her last summer when we stayed in NYC and that girl is all feet and elbows :rotfl:

True to her nature she was very dramatic about it and announced "I just can't do it" with tears but we explained (with thinning patience) that we tried to get him a cot but that it just wasn't allowed. Later I heard her telling her little brother they were going to have to share a bed so he better leave her alone  Anyway, I'd rather tough it out rather than buy an inflatable mattress. I hate deflating and folding those things up and I would be concerned about having enough space in our luggage to bring it home.

I feel your pain, OP. I also travel with two kids (ages 12 and 9) who don't want to sleep in the same bed. What has worked for us is to create a "nest." We use the cushions from the sofa bed to make a sleeping area. I also call Housekeeping and request extra pillows and blankets. The kids take turns sleeping in the "nest." Each morning the person who sleeps in the nest is responsible to put the cushions back on the couch and fold all the blankets.

We have been doing this for the last three years and so far it has worked great. I think the 12 year old is getting a little old to be sleeping on the floor, but she hasn't complained yet.

If toughing it out gets too hard, remember there is a Walmart not too far away. ;)If the kids fight too much and sleep is hard to come by, a small air mattress can make a huge difference!

We requested (and received) an airbed at Sarasota Springs - they charged $20 per night but it was last minute we only needed it 2 nights for my 10 yo nephew so it was fine. It was a nice aerobed with properly fitting sheets.

Otherwise pack or bring an airbed - they have some cute toddler sized ones with raised sides that may be perfect for a 2yo! Amazon has some from $20 for a standard airbed and up - the toddler one runs about $50 IIRC. Since your in a time crunch you could have it shipped directly to the resort.

If he will sleep in a full size crib vs a pack and play there are some baby rental companies in Orlando that will rent you a full size crib. My sister in law used a babys best friend and had good service.

I know I read someplace that at SSR, you can request a FULL size crib. So maybe see if they have one at WLV.

First I have to say that my parents wouldn't have even discussed it, and either would I with my kids , it would have just been!
But

You can just tell her what my Mom used to say to us when we complained about doing something we didn't like :

"If that is the worst thing you ever have to do in your life, I will be very happy for you"

Used to just aggravate us as kids but as we got older and thought about it, it really put whatever we were complaining about into perspective.

They'll live and be fine, what would they have done when I was a kid and kids regularly slept together in the same bed all the time?

0 i would ditch the airbed and not even bother bringing it home.

the pillow barricade could work and I love hte nest idea!!

We have been using an air mattress for years. Our boys stopped wanting to share a bed when the oldest was about 5. I am happy to accommodate them. It's their vacation too, and it's such an easy solution that I see no reason not to do it. Of course they would share if we told them they had to, but we choose not to do that.
