Will they allow you to take your shoes off on water rides?

I think I remember a change of rules about this, but can't remember if it was WDW or DLR.

I'm really not much on shlepping stuff thru the parks, so carrying water shoes or flip-flops isn't something I'm likely to do. A large plastic bag that hooks onto my fanny pack I could do...one large enough to store all our shoes.

Any hints or tips about this? If they don't allow it, maybe we'll be the geeky family you see who is putting plastic protectors over our feet before we ride the wet 'uns, :rotfl:.

BTW...I'm having visions of carrying 6 floral shower caps thru the parks. It's pretty amusing if I say so, myself!

I have not heard of this being allowed.

From Disneyland's FAQ page:
"Are there restrictions on types of clothing or makeup that Guests may wear, or tattoos that can be displayed, while visiting the Disneyland® Resort?"

From the long list answer: "bare feet."

I would imagine this would carryover to the rides for safety reasons.

I've done it, taken my shoes & socks off on GRR but not Splash, we just get wet on Splash. But on GRR you get drenched so yes, I've taken my shoes off before. Only once because we've only done GRR like twice, the first time was soak city, the second no shoes.

No, they dont allow it. We were wearing flip flops and they told us that we were not allowed to remove them during the ride.

We always get a locker to store extra shoes and clothes, just in case what we are wearing gets too wet. I always wear socks and sneakers at the park but will go around in flip flops when I plan on riding Splash Mountain. Then afterwards we gradually make our way back to the locker and my regular footwear goes back on. :thumbsup2

Or, plan the water ride right before you take an afternoon break back at the hotel. Get wet, then leave for a bit. That way, you have dry clothes waiting for you at the hotel.

When we were getting ready to board GRR, it dawned on me that I still had my tennis shoes on (and had sandles in a bag).

I took the shoes off to change, and the CM told me that I could not ride without shoes. I showed him that I was changing into sandles and he was okay with that.

While I can understand not wanting to carry sandles through the park, it is no fun walking around in wet shoes. Learned that lesson when I went on Splash and my shoes and socks got SOAKED. Not a fun day!

They will not let you ride GRR in Bare Feet. I wear Crocs most of the time & I usually go the dork route and wear them with socks for comfort sake, I'd rather look dorky than get blisters. I just remove the socks for the ride so they don't get wet & put them back on afterward. That works fine for me.

Huh, there was just a huge discussion on this and many of us reported that we were able to remove our shoes on GRR. I've never done it on Splash, I don't get wet enough to care but on GRR we have done it. I guess maybe it just depends on the CMs.....

Hmmm yeah ive seen loads of people take their shoes off. They get on the boat, start moving and then take them off... I see tons of people taking their sandles off before Soarin' starts as well.

I would imagine it depends on the CMs and if they see you.

Just like GRR doesn't ALWAYS get people soaked (or even dribbled on!), no one is always going to be sure they'll be able to have their shoes off, etc.

OP, I would imagine that having a bag with flipflops in it wouldn't be too much to deal with during the day. I like to just carry a DLR bag with me (you can get the clear plastic ones from the shops if you ask, or you can use one you've gotten with a purchase, or buy one of the new reusable bags they urge you to buy, or whatever else you might want that is lightweight) for DS's shoes (and I don't mind carrying things in, so if I know GRR or the waterplay area in bug's land is on the menu of things to do that day, I tend to try to carry a full change of clothes right down to socks and underpants and a towel).

So you snag a free locker to put your bulky shoes in while you switch out to your flipflops, go on the ride as many times as you want (before the locker's free time runs out), then get the shoes from the locker, toss the flipflops into the little bag, andyou can move along.

Of course, you'll also want ponchos, if having wet shoes means that being wet all over might bug ya. :)

This is some really environmentally-unfriendly advice, but I'm pretty sure some places (outside the parks of course :) ) sometimes sell flip flops for $1 a pair. They would be very light and flimsy--you probably could easily carry three pair in a plastic bag attached to your fanny pack if you wanted...wouldn't necessarily look so great but I clip large things to my belt all the time. :)

And for that price you could haul them around until you ride GRR, use a free locker for your own shoes, and then throw the flip flops away (!) if you were tired of hauling them.

Though honestly, on Splash Mountain, since there are no lockers and there's no water coming up beneath the boat to soak your feet...I think I'd just go for the shower caps. ;)

Yeek, there sure *can* be water at the bottom of the log. Water comes up, over, and into the log, and boom, you've got soaking feet. And so do the next people in the log! :)

NOt that hubby or I have had soaking feet from the water sitting in the log on Splash or anything...

I was afraid of this. When I go in June I just plan on wearing my crocs throughout the parks and when I go on Splash Mountain and GRR it won't be too big of a deal when I get my shoes wet. Once I get off the ride I will just dry my feet and shoes.

Whenever I wear my crocs here at home I wear them with socks (only when I'm wearing jeans and you can't tell I'm wearing socks  ). So if I'm wearing socks those days I ride the water rides I will just bring an extra pair of socks in my bag. That's just what I plan on doing. :3dglasses

I don't really wear flip flops at all, so when I go to WDW I never get on any of the water rides because I don't want to ruin my shoes like I did once at Sea World Orlando. But since this will be my first trip to DL I figured I'd try to come up with something that will allow me to ride everything I want. :cool1:

Another thing I was planning on doing was just maybe riding the water rides as my last ride of the night, that way I can walk over to my hotel and there won't be any problem. :cool2:

LOL; OK, OK. :)

I haven't been on DL's in years, honestly, but I never remember getting my feet wet at all. I was perfectly fine at WDW with either nothing to cover my shoes (in the morning, little to no splash) or (later in the day) a bag of purchases that happened to shield my feet. (I tend to wear tennis shoes which are water-resistant if not waterproof...an inch of water in the log wouldn't phase my footwear. :) )

It was really funny to get drenched the second time through, though, since I'd been expecting to stay dry after the morning was dry.

Where do yo uget those marvelous shoes?

I tend to wear running shoes with mesh uppers, and those are definitely not water-resistant. :)

This is weird. I can see this being a problem, but out of all the times I rode Splash, GRR, or Kali at WDW, I don't remember even getting my feet soaked.

Any any rate, the best solution is always have a pair of crocs, flip flops or sandals on hand!

We do the same thing. Take off shoes on GRR, but not on Splash. I also won't sit in the front row of Splash.

Yep. We always take off our shoes on GRR and put them and the socks in a plastic bag. Also, in January when we rode, I saw a whole bunch of shoes & socks piled up on the loading platform near the CM. Maybe just because it was cold & therefore slow, so they allowed it? Maybe it depends on the CM...

Hmmm yeah ive seen loads of people take their shoes off. They get on the boat, start moving and then take them off... I see tons of people taking their sandles off before Soarin' starts as well.
I've seen the same on both rides and no one said a word. Nothing like someones stinky socked feet hanging in your face on Soaring!;) For GRR, I always wait until I get in the boat then remove the socks and shoes quickly. I start untying before I get on the ride to make it quicker. I've come off the ride with no shoes and no one said a word to me about the fact that I was supposed to be wearing shoes.
OP - I also wear flip flops sometimes all day and night. Those are great! No worries about blisters, sore feet and getting wet.

Wore my crocs as did everyone in our party!! It was great. Shoes are on. Get off ride. Dried the crocs when I dried me and the glasses!!
