Will there ever be a draft again?

We were just talking about this at work today.

Not unless there is another world war that is fought conventionally...which is highly unlikely

1) Since nuclear weapons tend to keep peace quite well

2) If the there was an all out/total war nukes would end it fast.

No, probably not. We actually have too many active duty military members right now. The services are trying to sort of pare down and "specialize" the military so that it's more lethal, not just larger. We are preparing for less boots on the ground and more technological warfare. With the large number of reservists on the rolls, a draft is a highly unlikely scenario. The military branches have already dissolved numerous specialties that are outdated (tanks, some artillery, MPs, etc).

Well, we had two Gulf Wars without a draft. So I hope not. The pay and benefits, and training the military has offered in since the draft went away in 1973 appear to be enough to motivate enough people to sign up.

I doubt it very much although I think that it would be good for those that think it is fun to threaten and want to kill people that disagree with them. It would be a good outlet.

I sure hope not. It's one thing to see "important" people make then ignore pandemic rules. It would be next level to see them make draft laws then scamper to get their own kids and grandkids out of it.

There have been a few wars with US involvement, since DH then DS became draft eligible. I worried about it every time, but have come to realize it's highly unlikely there will be a draft in the more modern age of warfare, if there wasn't during previous wars.

By reading this I can tell you haven’t spent one day in the military. Correct me if I’m wrong

The chance has to be close to zero. Today's modern warfare is so different than even 30 years ago and the world is so much smaller (we could attack anywhere at any time right now). The amount of manpower needed is also considerably less than it once was and we could never build the amount of planes, ships, etc in time to necessitate that large of a military. I think we currently have something like 10 aircraft carriers in service now compared to the 150 that were built during WW2.

Exactly.... we can fly drones over a region 3,000 miles away from Washington or any other location. Then ...of course there'll be robots, that should be interesting
