Will there ever be a 5th gate?

I've never been a waterpark guy, so I'll go with what you guys say on the viablity of a third waterpark.

Are you chicken scared of Summit Plummet? :lmao:

Also, great idea with the PoTC themed waterpark. How cool would that be. I mean, slides are slides, but the theming possibilties would be terrific.

Uh, have you seen DCA?
Or for that matter, the Michael Eisner memorial concrete monstrosity and very very long tram ride.

I'd prefer they kept the parking lot thankyou.

Converting parking lots into garages is actually an option considered in the long-term plan for the resort. I doubt that'll happen within the next decade or two, though.

You'd have to reach a pretty high level of density of development before structured parking would make economic sense.

I did some digging and found the following map that clearly places the MiceAge map into the realm of fiction!
However, I was wrong about one aspect of Tink's Tormentor's claim - that part of the property wasn't listed in the document as suitable, but clearly is thusly marked on the map. I still have my doubts, but it is, at least, a realistic possibility for the future.

Interesting map; but that would leave them with very little space for another park. Or, if related to the other park, will have to be smaller as the once there are now. Could be I am reading the map wrong though.

You're looking for yellow and/or green areas on that map. The three largest chunks coincide with what I called theme park locations #5 (near WWOS) and #6 (between Blizzard Beach and the Studios). Another large chunk is west of the Beltway.

The colors where clear, just that the patches look very small. WWOS location looks like the biggest patch they could build on when looking at your map.

But I guess, whatever map we look at, for the moment the map will not change for a while...

I would have loved the map from Ebay, where the park was added on... (as mentioned in the blog entry).

Who knows what the future will look like... park 5, 6 ...7.... :teeth: .. I guess we will have to wait a little longer

I spoke again this past weekend to my friend. She still was not forthcoming as to the plans. However, she did say the plans were long term, which leads me to think not much is planned now, especially since the plans are long term plans. I know you all probably do not believe me, since I cannot disclose who my friend is and where she works, for her job security purposes... But, from things she described, I fully believe this area is NOT going to be a theme park...

I just spoke to a friend of mine who is "in the know", trust me. They said that something is going to be done with the land directly north of the Magnolia Golf Course and directly west of the Seven Seas Lagoon.

It makes sense. On the map that wdwguide posted, this land is labeled as "suitable" and "marginally suitable". There are some access roads and a some water features in there.

They didn't say when or what they'd put there, just that something would be done with the land... eventually.

Most likely a new resort - that's what it used to be categorized as on the late 1990s masterplans that were leaked a few years ago.

I am posting this picture with names added to help some people out

I never heard of the leaked plans. In fact, I just looked at the land use maps posted, picked a large unused area, hopped onto Google maps, checked out the satellite view and made up a "friend".

I am not saying that the OP did this, I am just saying that with vague statements that "something" might happen "sometime", but they may not because plans change is sort of like a psychic telling someone they will die eventually.

I read this board on and off. I didn't think that this type of thing is what happens. But it is fun to dream, I'll give you that. Forgive me if I went overboard.

The plans are on [hm... apparently the DIS boards don't allow links to that site, sorry] - those are definitely authentic. Using them in conjunction with the public info from the RCID doesn't leave that much room to the imagination. The land they have is limited, and given that the sites they considered suitable for theme parks haven't been used, it appears unlikely that they'd just build one somewhere completely different on property.

I generally agree with you, though, that when people write that their "friends" heard something, it's usually a "bus-driver quality rumor" at best (a chance of <5% that it is accurate). Had your story been right, a resort development was the only reasonable object for the location described. But given that that Disney still has excess room capacity, one resort half finished and another one on indefinite hold, I am sure that site won't see any activity for years to come. But your made-up story is likely to come true one day, and then you can proudly claim "I told you so" and open a new web site to compete with Jim Hill :rotfl2:

Edit: Since the bot decided to censor my web link, you'll have to google "walt disney world rumors" and select the obvious choice.

Let me clarify somethings for those who do not understand what i was saying in my posts.. My friend is not a bus driver, nor is she a CM.... Since Disney does read these boards, I cannot give her name or what she does... When she told me about that area, all she said to me was that it would bring balance to WDW... And that what she was in on during the discussions were that it is something WDW already has, and it would be big... If she was able to tell me, I would have told all you... But all I could list was "something is planned.." Believe me, if I was able to tell you, I would.. I don't know cause she cannot say.... And now, she even avoids talking about it when I hear from her.... I know you all doubt me, as you have the right, and I know it is like a fortune teller telling someone they will die... but, if Iw as able to give more detail, I would... I'm just dropping it now since no one wants to take me serious anyway.

A big reason why many are skeptical is not just people making up stories, and the fact that stuff gets misrepresented when passed on from friend to friend until it makes its way onto these boards, but also because Disney has a spotty history sticking to their own plans.

There are dozens of attractions that had been announced or where close to being greenlit that were never built.
The original Space pavilion. African pavilion. Beastly Kingdom. David Copperfield Magic Underground. Fire Mountain. Tiger Rapids Run. The Excavator. Thunder Mesa/Western River Expedition. Asian Resort. Venitian Resort. Eagle Pines Resort.
Outside of WDW, those include WestCot, DisneySea, Disney's America, several Disneyland attractions, a TON of stuff at Disneyland Paris (including the Little Mermaid dark ride), and numerous DisneyQuest locations.

Finally, there is no obvious "imbalance" at Walt Disney World that would need to be corrected, with the exception of the transportation system and within the existing theme parks themselves. Disney has excess hotel capacity, excess theme park capacity, insufficient demand to add a new water park, more than enough golf courses and sports facilities.

.... The only thing WDW already has that it now needs is a night time district...

I know they still have the Boardwalk and what is left of pleasure Island but if they continue to dismantle that the nightlife will get pretty boring
