Will there be a spring break?

I live in VA right outside Fauquier County, which is a county who gets out even if it rains too much sometimes, and they have missed a lot of school. I was speaking to a teacher who works for that county and she was telling me that they may have to shorten Spring Break and depending on if they miss any more days they most likely will have to go later in the year.

I don't know if this will have much effect on the Spring Break crowds, but I guess wishful thinking always helps.

I know for the week we'll be there (April 5-9), we're going for Disney's Magic Music days, so our kids' band can march. The band director made a good point when I was mentioning this thread, that this was an approved field trip that would be handled like any other field trip. I.E. the kids will make the trip whether there's school or not. The difference would be any makeup work they would need for their other classes. My point being, if most schools work like this, I'd expect very little change in attendance, at least as far as the music kids go.

If our schools ever have to make up days, it's tacked on to the end of the school year. They never take the spring break.

This is correct for the district I teach in. It would cause so many problems wht families and teaching staff to take away a spring break at the last minute. Contractually in my district we tack on days at the end or eliminate "inservice day".

Our Michigan district has only had one snow day.

We live in the Asheville NC area and my daughter attends a county school. They have already taken two days off of the spring break and are saying they will take more if the weather continues to be bad.The city schools are holding Saturday classes instead of messing with Spring break.

We also live in the Asheville area! I teach in the county. Does not look good for this week. More snow fell this weekend and more is on the way starting tonight for the next 36 hours. Ugh. The paper deliverer has four wheel drive and he almost went in the ditch up my road about two minutes ago. The reason (for those who don't live in this area) that we have to close school is because of the steepness and shadiness of so many of our mountain roads. When it's bad enough, nothing will save you.

That said, I think people who have paid for their vacations will take them and just miss the three days unless their kids are borderline for missing too many days in general.

I am grateful for the new rule that is keeping the bookends of August 25 to June 10 because I remember just seven years ago I started my first teacher workday on July 29. That was a bummer.

Our kids have used 9 snow days so far, so they have shortened our spring break. Now, we only get off the Friday and Monday of Easter weekend:mad:

We have 5 snow days in Ohio and my district where I work just adds 5 days to the school year. We never knock off days we don't use, though. This year we have used 3 so far.
My district always adds days on the end. It is clearly stated on the yearly calendar we all get in August. I don't know if it's because a lot of teachers leave town for spring break, like I am this year--with nonrefundable plane tickets. I guess I'd have to take unpaid leave if they canceled vacation.
Our JERK governor is reducing our snow days to 3 next year, with the eventual goal of no snow days being given, so at that point my district will (or should) take off those extra 5 days, if we will have to make every day up anyhow.

In KY the weather has been pretty awful (Just this week my school got two snow days and one delay) and we are expecting even more snow today! We have had an extra day added in during the month of May (May 28th I believe) because most school systems are trying to stay away from SB as long as they possibly can because they know that people already have plans and that most kids probably wouldn't even be in school that extra day because they are in tropical locations. They would most likely take out random off days and add on days at the end of the year instead of taking away SB.
