Will the servers rush your dinner out if asked?

I am growing a bit concerned that we will be missing some stuff given our late dinner seating, so I was wondering if anyone had ever asked the servers if they could rush the meals out faster so that dinner wouldn't be a 2 hour experience.

I know this wouldn't make sense for AP, but for PC and tritons what do you all think? (I know this would run opposite of "we're on vacation, just relax" but I also don't want to miss out on the pirate party, till we meet again, etc.)

any thoughts?

I'm not sure about them rushing dinner out or not. My guess would be they would try to do what you wanted as much as possible.

What I can tel you is this. We had late dining & had no problem making it to the pirate party or till we meet again. We did not rush dinner either.

Just a thought. Hope the trip is great!

It would also depend on your table size and who you are sitting with. The table orders as a whole and the courses come out as a whole (with a few exceptions). The only problem, I have ever encountered (timing wise) with late seating, is I was too full to enjoy the pirates dessert buffet, but considering I am hypoglycemic, it really wasn't a probelm.

I understand how you feel. We just got back from the Magic last night and I actually found that the dinners were wwwaaaaaay too long. It was great for adults because it was so formal and beautiful.....but if we had kids I'm sure they would be bored after the first 1/2 hour. Hopefully they can try to speed it up a little, if you skip the appetizer and salad rounds and order your entree' instantly. Otherwise, early seating works best. We had the 8:30 seating and we weren't done until 10!

We have had kids with us on you are right the earler seating works best for most kids only because then tend to need to sleep before the rest of us. However I have had kids eat as a family in both the early and late roation and they never got borded. Our servers did a wonderful job of keeping them entertained.

Also we never had any trouble getting to anything we wanted. I hope the OP has a wonderful cruise and feel sure if it was requested that Dinner be rushed they would do whatever they could to make the family happy. They do attempt to serve as a table but one of our family members was late each and every day and we asked that they serve her when she arrived and serve us when we arrive and they did just that. It then became that we got our meals about the time is managed to make it to the table.

the dinners can be an hour or two hours its up to you. most of the dinners i had it took about an hour.we were done when a lot of people just started their main meals.

How long dinner takes really depends on the server. We've sailed 15 times on the Magic....most were great, but we recently had a team that gave new meaning to the word "slow." If you want someone fast, go to "Dining Changes" after you board and explain your desire to the head server. They'll try to make it work for you.

Our last cruise we had 14 people (and a 8:30 seating) and we asked our servers to get us out at 9:30 on Pirate Night. We had appetizers through dessert and could have leisurely eaten dessert. It's mostly dancing until after 10 and then the show and fireworks.

We liked to dance and the line for the food a PN was insane. Instead after the party we ordered room service with milk and cookies.

Rushing your dinner would mean your tablemates rush their dinner.

You won't miss the pirate party..just skip dessert in the dining room that night and head on up.

If there are things you want to do in the evening you can always skip the dining room and eat at BBB or one of the quick food stations.

I agree.....don't count on your servers being able to rush your dinner. Skip the appetizers and dessert and just order the main course.

We just got off the eastern cruise on Saturday and we had the 8:15 seating and our dinners (all 4 courses) took 1 1/2 hours. Not too bad for 4 courses and we are very fast eaters. They pretty much bought one course right after another, no time in between courses. I said to my husband they only way you could make dinner faster would be to skip a course. Some people must of skipped dessert because quite a few tables left before us.

We have a 4 year old how did fine with late seating as along as she had a nap at around 4 pm.

I know they stagger dinner seatings, depending on restaurant. we have late seating on our cruise and the only thing i am really concerned about is the pirate party. but that is one night, and I am sure the servers are used to people cutting out early so they can get up on deck. also with that being a special menu served in all three dining rooms, you would figure that they could find a way to get you out in time for the party. just a note for DCL if you are having a desert buffet maybe you shouldn't offer a desert menu that night. ok done with my advice.

The Pirate Party was a HUGE disappointment. Far too crowded, too late for all the little kids - and frankly, neither the show nor the fireworks was very good.

Getting there early wasn't much of a help because - unlike the sail away party - my fellow cruisers (pleasant and enjoyable all week) had turned into rail butting, chair stealing, selfish tourists.

Eat dinner and then watch the fireworks from up by Palo. If you need to brave the lines for the pirate buffet or need to see the show, ask to have dinner rushed.

(For anyone reading this - they regularly will rush kids dinners - timing them so they are done for you to take them up to the club before the dessert course.)

I have often wondered that myself - seems a complete waste to have the late dining people eating a full "special" multi course dinner only to offer another big meal right after the pirate show. I also don't think its right for the late dining people to have to either rush through their meal or have to pass on their desserts just to make it in time for the start of the pirate show.

On our last cruise, the cruise director joked about it on the PA system commenting that we'll all be ready to eat again so quickly.

I going off-topic here, but there was a great thread last fall about DCL needing to revamp the entire pirate night. People came up with great ideas.

When I told my kids that we're doing back-to-back Wonder cruises next summer and that we get two pirate nights, their first response was to ask to blow off the dinner on one of the pirate nights so that we could actually get to the show on time.
