Just saw the new Cinderella trailer just released. Will this shake things up in its March release? Lookin pretty Magical!!!

I don't think so, since the live action (to me at least) makes it more of a tween/teen movie. You won't have the cult can following of preschoolers singing power ballads like "Let It Go", since (at least from my experience) many won't be interested in live characters. Also, I don't recall much sing-a-long type music in Maleficent, so I don't imagine Cinderella being too different. However, as an adult, I am excited to see Cinderella. Maleficent was beautifully done, so I can only imagine this being better since I like Cinderella's story more.

I saw the trailer this morning and we definitely be using a date night to see this at the theatre.

No, it will take more than that to set the frozen iceberg drifting out to sea.

Not at all because they are different types of movies. However, Big Hero 6 could lessen the amount of Frozen you see.

Nope- Cinderella is not a new character and the movie is pg. It will be like the live Alice, Maleficent, etc- very popular, but not the start of a preschooler frenzy or an absolute merchandising bonanza. Our school does Halloween costumes at school, and also an occasional PJ day, and I think about 85% of the pre-K and kindergarten girls were in Frozen stuff for both of those. While Frozen appeals to the older kids and some adults as well, alot of the financial bonanza comes from the 2 to 6 year old crowd, and the parents who are excited to buy all sorts of Frozen stuff for their obsessed pre-schoolers. This pg Cinderella may not even be seen by a good portion of that crowd for a few years.

That said, the trailer looks fantastic!

I had the same thought when I saw this question earlier but I googled and learned that Frozen was also PG.

Although I do agree with you and doubt that we will let our DD see this new movie even though she was allowed to see Frozen which I had assumed was G.

As already stated, probably not - but the new trailer was fantastic! I can't wait to see the movie.

I hope so - the only thing Frozen really has going for it is some pretty incredible songs sung by some really incredible performers. Take that away and it is just a ho, hum story about a disillusioned princess who finally gets off her high horse to help her sister. Cinderella, on the other hand, is a classic, timeless story about overcoming obstacles and the new movie just brings it to a new level.

Just curious, why would you not let your DD see Cinderella given that you let her see Frozen, which was also PG? Has she seen the animated Cinderella? Why would a "real life" version of Cinderella be any different? Would you let her see a "real life" Frozen?

Frozen actually gave Maleficent a big lift. It probably wouldn't have been as successful if little girls all over the world weren't still looking for another princess fix post-Frozen.

No.

Cinderella is a wonderful story with great history and appeals deeply to ppl of that generation. But to the 5- to 8- year old girls of today, Anna and Elsa will be their Cinderella.

The story was so compelling... and so opposite of Cinderella in that you don't really fall in love at first sight but true love comes from those close to you... Powerful message, great characters, Frozen will not be unseated for a long time among the princesses of today.

Frozen is to this generation what Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid were to mine. It would take a movie with the same widespread appeal and merchandise/marketability opportunity to diminish its mass popularity at the parks. Cindy won't be that, Big Hero 6, while superior in some ways, isn't that movie either. Looking at the upcoming slate of films, Frozen may be here till at least 2017, when a Sheriff and Space Ranger reclaim their spot at the top.

The new trailer did make me think that maybe the refurb for cinderella's castle dining experience could have something to do with the new movie. Just a thought.

All these stories have weak cores if you look too deeply...Cinderella is about a teenager sneaking off to a rave, where she lies to everyone and breaks curfew...probably the most innocent of them because: Little Mermaid is about keeping secrets from your dad and running away to be with a boy that doesn't know anything about you...Snow White and Sleeping Beauty work in necrophilia, and Beauty and the Beast is Stockholm Syndrome :)

I didn't realize Frozen was PG when we took her to see it. My fault for trusting that a Disney film was automatically for children. But I don't regret allowing her to see it. Generally speaking, I think there is a difference between animated films and live films so anything more "adult" would have more impact in the latter, IMHO. She's seen the animated version which I'm sure is G.

Besides not all PGs are created equally. Up is PG and my DD was extremely disturbed by it. I made the mistake of letting her watch it when I was in the other room and she started yelling "bad man!" at the bad guy in the movie and crying about the poor bird. I had to sit with her through the rest of the movie. Frozen was not disturbing to her at all. I think the difference was that in Up, an animal was injured which is almost always disturbing to young children.

But generally speaking, we do not allow our 5 YO DD to see PG movies and she's never seen a live action film other than Mary Poppins.

I may be the only old timer who preferred Frozen princesses to Cinderella.

I could not for the life of me get into Cinderella, story just doesn't click for me.
