Will the NEW Art of Animation Resort have any DVC units?

They are copying the Little Mermaid ride from California Adventure, building a Beast's castle restaurant and adding meet and greets for Cinderella, Aurora, Little Mermaid, and Belle. They are also moving Dumbo and adding a second Dumbo spinner (really just moving and re-themeing Aladdin's carpets), and re-themeing Goofy's coaster. They are removing all of Toontown (including Mickey's house, Minnie's house, Donald's Boat, the Judge's tent and the play area), Pooh's Playground, and Ariel's meet and greet and well as Aladdin's carpets.

Not to digress from the original topic, but where is the stuff for BOYS? I am getting tired of all this princess stuff and we are still waiting for a boys themed character dining experience. JMHO.

Just a reminder that we like to keep the discussions on the DVC boards somewhat DVC related, and general park operations and attractions don't really meet that criteria.

Thanks.

I'm more concerned about what this will do for the crowds. Another couple thousand rooms, at least another 8000 guests per day - they will need to come up with a solution for those that don't want to stand in line for hours.

My solution would be another park. But then again there go the ticket prices whch I bet go to $83 in the next month now that they have reported record profits.
While I'm sure Disney would like to attract guests from all sources, I'm betting the majority of people filling the resort will be guests who would otherwise stay at an off site value hotel.
It's my guess that the percentage of on site guests in the parks will change, but the total number will not change much.

These 8000 guests you talk about probably are already vacationing at Disney but are staying offsite. Now that Disney is building affordable rooms that are larger, these people will probably make the switch and start staying on site.
I wonder how much these rooms will be???

You can kinda get a guess on the price based on the family suites at All Star Music. Cheapest night there is $190 during a weekday in September.

It has already been noted by Disney that this will not be DVC. I don't think it will hurt DVC sales at all, but could possibly take away some DVC renters.

I don't think this will touch the DVC rentals at all. Value resorts and DVC resorts are two different animals. One you try DVC there's no going back, even to a moderate.

I just think that some families that need accommidations for 5 are going to be more comfortable renting from Disney than a stranger who more than likely won't let you cancel.

It has been really hard to use a good discount at a family suite at the values, with this new hotel increasing the number of units many fold, if I could get a good discount I would think of trying one when I am short of points, especially if they connect to another standard room to make a "real" suite.

I was out of town during May and missed this announcement. Aren't the buildings already there across hour glass lake? And since three of the wings are now being made into family suites versus regular value rooms, does that mean the buildings were already set up to be family suites? Otherwise Disney will have lots of remodeling in those family suite wings (turning two value rooms into a suite). Also the announcements I read did not mention a kitchen, but I would assume they have a sink and small fridge so I guess the plumbing in the second room could be converted to a kitchenette.

I have to admit I was always a little skeptical calling anything before the 1940's as being the POP Century.

Some buildings are already there...the food court/store/check-in building and 2 (maybe three) unfinished lodging buildings. The vast majority of bedrooms/suite buildings were not started except for very basic plumbing/concrete foundations so they would be built from scratch for the suites.

Thanks for the reply ChuckS. By just having the rough plumbing in place it sounds like an easier build for the construction company.

I don't think the addition of this resort will create 8,000 additional guests per day. The addition of this resort will not make that many people who did not plan to go to WDW to suddenly go. It will spread out people who would have booked 2 rooms elsewhere or people who would have crowded 4 into another resort room. Or maybe staying offsite. There might be some additional guests, but I don't think 8,000 per day.

Another park would cost Disney at least a billion dollars. Doubt they will head down that road unless attendance increases dramatically.

If I'm not mistaken word was that not all the rooms at Art of Animation will be suites. There will be regular rooms, too. Certain buildings will have suites and certain buildings will have regular rooms.

There probably won't be a lot of extra guests at Disney who wouldn't have come without the suites, you'll just see some of them move to the suites from offsite accommodations.
