Will the cheapy cell phones like tracfone work at Disney?

Do you need to be outside to call? Can you call at the resorts inside or out of your room or the parks and get through? I'll be staying at POP.

Are there any secret spots that work better than others for reception? Do you just try to find a clear way away from trees, buildings or whatever?

My parent's have tracfones and on our last trip is 2009 they were able to use their phone from the bus and called us in HS so we could meet up. They had no problems. They usually get better service than us actually we have att.
I've never stayed at pop so I can not give that info. But my parent's have been succesful using theirs.

yes they work all over WDW. We stayed at POP a few years ago and it worked fine

We have AT&T. Pop was hit or miss whether we could call from inside the room. Sometimes the call would go through but then would drop seconds later. If I stepped right outside the room, things were fine.

Other than that, the only issue I had was inside some of the Epcot pavilions (Land, Living Seas).

I have had a Tracfone for years. I don't travel a whole lot besides locally, maybe a few times a year. However, when I'm in my car, I feel more secure to have a cell phone with me. I have taken my Tracfone to at least 6 WDW trips and used it without noticeable interruption. Probably I use it more outdoors than inside buildings, tho. I always buy a year's service card, and I have a Tracfone with double minutes, so I have plenty of minutes without needing to buy more. Tracfone is an inexpensive lifeline for me, navigating the world with my disability, and it has come in handy plenty of times.
