Will texters for the XBOX be a waste of money?

DS11 has asked for these before (when he was putting in an XBOX live code) and I had thought of giving him some at Christmas but... I'm wondering if these are a huge waste of money..

1. How many: He has 4 controllers would he NEED 4 texters...AT ALL?? Or is it really only useful for certain things that not all players would need? Mostly it is just him and 1 other person playing so would getting two be sensible?

2. Do you actually use these for more than putting in the occasional code? I mean he is getting a 1 year LIVE subscription so ... maybe the occasional point card but if that is all you use them for I would have to say deal with it and use your controller.

First off I definitely would not buy him more than one.

Neither DH nor I can think of one game where you would use the "chatpad". Basically the only use you would have for it is to send "text" messages to friends or other gamers on live. It is not necessary but it is nice to have especially if you send a lot of messages or long messages. Now that I say this I remember that you can use it for the million dollar question on "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" but that is one answer in the entire game and still not necessary. Think of it as a nice perk or a luxury.

BTW I don't know how you would feel about this since it would be a Christmas gift but I would always check out Gamestop for any used accesories. You could probably save a good deal going that way and they are always guranteed to work.

Thanks! That clears it up for me. They offer a pkg at our Walmart and TRU for $69.99 where you get a headset, texter, and 1 yr LIVE card. Since the card alone is $49.99 you get the two accessories for $20. Maybe I will do that. I'll also check out Gamestop. Ours is spotty on used merchandise - sometimes they have it, sometimes not - but what we HAVE been able to find there is like new condition and works great so I will look at them, too.

That is a very good deal at Wal-Mart. I don't know if it is true because I have not been on live in awhile but someone told me that the year price went up as of November 1st to $59.99 but I am not sure if that is true or not?

Yes, Live upped the price to $59.99 as of Nov 1st.

The chatpad is very nice and I also would say one would be sufficient. I bought it because while I am playing games at times I am also texting. My husband was grateful for it because there are some games that he plays that it makes his life a lot nicer. Our daughter uses it primarily to chat with her friends. The bundle sounds like a decent deal.
