Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack? ~A Pirate's Life for 3 Pre-Trippie~ We're back!

Can't wait to find out about the talk!!!

If I just weren't so gosh-darned (have to keep it DIS appropriate ;) ) obsessive I could come to a decision by simply saying, "No, not right now" and then walking away. But I swear, I was like a bulldog or a terrier or something in a past life because once I get ahold of an idea, I have a hard time letting it go. :headache:

I have no idea what that's like. :rotfl:

Yes! If I was a juror I would just agree with you to keep my head from spinning. :lmao:

Maybe it's time to go back to school.

I am really impressed with the fact that you have been saving your paycheck, that is DEDICATION. I hope to do more of this after our trip. :worship:

It's hard, but worth it. And it's definitely keeping me in line.

TK....I seriously wasnt' picking on your spending habits....please girl I bought a $35 sweatshirt in July :lmao: I guess I didn't explain it that well....I basically meant for the next two months you can increase your vacation spending money.

I don't know what you decided to do but I hope it's sticking with the original plan.

Thanks for the clarification. I was feeling a little jaded!:lmao:

I didn't mean to take it out on you. It's just been one of those days, and I knew you would totally bring some sense to the situation, which you did.:goodvibes

Okay, guys.

Ready to bite the bullet.

And book the you know what airfare.

However, DH is of no help to me on flight times.

So let's review our options.

Option One- The Least Expensive
Sun 14 415 - 705 pm
Sun 21 930 am - 1215 pm
Total Cost - $777
Why it's good - Later flight time on arrival day means we'll all have slept well the night before. It also means we'll lose that day, and our departure day, but in theory, we'll be well rested for Monday, our then first full day.

Option Two- A Tad More Expensive
Sun 14 700 - 950am
Sun 21 930 am - 1215 pm
Total Cost - $816
Why it's good - We gain that first day. Potential pitfalls are the worst case scenario of our room not being ready until three. We could go to a park...Magic Kingdom, anyone...but after throwing DS all out of whack, he's really going to need a good nap. Still puts us as not having solid transportation back from the airport that Sunday.

Option Three- Let's Just Throw Caution to the Wind Here
Sun 14 415 - 705 pm
Sun 21 310 - 545 pm
Total Cost - $930
Why it's good - We gain a portion of the last day. We play to our strengths by flying at reasonable times, but taking close to the last flights of the day can make me nervous.

Option Four - In which the Vacation Savings Begs for Mercy
Sun 14 700 - 950 am
Sun 21 310 - 545 pm
Total Cost - $969 :scared1:
Why it's good - Do I even need to explain this one?

Let the games begin.

Do Number Two (and I'll send you a couple stickers:lmao: )

Number 4 is my next choice....but $150 is more than I would pay for a few hours more in a park.

What with all the shoes and everything.;)

I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to be in bad taste, but all I can think of is you agonizing over how to fit your newly purchased duds in the suitcase.:lmao:

:lmao: I have a separate bag for the shoes :rotfl2:
Since we bought the tickets in January, we don't have to pay the luggage fees. My dad will only bring one bag. So will my and T. So I can pack EVEN MORE :rotfl:

I forgot to write this: I wouldn't sleep....it would just give me more time to toss and turn. We fly out on a Sunday morning....I'll be here on that Friday asking you all why I didn't fly out Friday morning. I like early departures....more chances to get a flight home.

Is there any way that DS would nap on the plane even though it's such an early flight? I like option two -- the last couple of options are more expensive than I would want to go with.

If DS doesn't nap on the airplane, would he last until 3:00 when your room is ready and then take a nap, enabling you to go back to the parks and stay a little bit later?

:upsidedow

I vote for Option 2.

I have deliberated long and hard. Is DS the kind of napper that will fall asleep in a stroller in a park or in a "quiet" place, like while strolling the WL grounds??

I think if that is the only thing holding you back is DS' naptime, which is important, that you should just roll with it and take your chances.

:confused3 As far as the transportation, you said you were going to ask your Dad if he could switch shifts...right? :confused3

I like option #2. Seems to be a good balance.

Maybe if DS is tired when you get back to the room you could hang by the pool until your room is ready. It's not as good as the room and a nap of course, but much less tiring for him than a park. Then after a nap you could hit a park.

I think CP and LL bring up good points. Another option would be to price out cost of a shuttle or something for that last day if your dad couldn't pick you up--then see if that expense would make one of the other flight choices more appealing. Though I rather doubt it'd cost $115 to bring you even with option 3. Then again, I've never had to take a shuttle for three to/from the airport. :confused3

Alright, so far the vote is for #2.

I have one more option.

It's a little scary for a few reasons. It's outside of our norm, there could be fees (hopefully we could avoid them), it's non-refundable and there's a fee to change them.

Big pro?

They're liveable flight times.

Delta -

Sep 14 200 - 447 pm
Sep 21 1030 am - 114 pm

Total Cost - $777

Potential pitfalls are over the weight fees, extra baggage fees, having the stroller count as checked baggage even for gate checking. Perhaps I should call their customer service and clarify it, but that's how I read it on the website. Also, these are non-refundable, so no happy little Southwest Credit in case something happens. There's $100 cancellation fee, and $100 transfer fee. I can't figure out if that's per ticket, but I would assume.

I also read/heard that Delta is notorious for changing flight times. Has anyone else heard this?

Delta has been changing flights and canceling flights all together. I think an additional $39 for opt #2 is a small price to pay for free luggage and cancelation flight credits.
My worry is if you don't book soon there may not be seats on the flights you decide you want.
I got a good tip from DisMomAmy....if you fly sw....book each flight separately....that way if you have a problem with either it's easier to change just that one flight.

I have had bad experiences on Delta. So has my family and friends. Even when they're cheaper, I avoid taking their flights. My family, friends, and I have all experienced long delays. And while my flight times never changed with Delta, I have heard from other people that it does happen.

Have you considered American? Or Jetblue? Or Continental? I've had really good experiences with all three airlines. And have gotten very reasonable airfare on American and Jetblue. For our trip next month, we paid $238 per person round trip on American.

I completely agree!!

In addition to not having seats, the price may increase.

I would stick with what you are comfortable with....Southwest. :thumbsup2

I haven't flown Delta in ages--so long ago that I wasn't the one who had to pay for my ticket (family trip to somewhere-or-other when I was 14, I think). But I think the downsides are numerous enough that you should stick with Southwest.

::yes:: Heidi spells it out very logically. :thumbsup2
