There is a reason I call Star Tours "the honkinator"!
Star Tours and Mission Space are the two rides at WDW I have motion sickness issues with.
Soarin is the only ride I won't go on due to "the too scary" factor (I'm acrophobic so Soarin is a terrible experience for me).
This is dead on accurate. I did close my eyes on Star Tours when I felt sick and it helped tremendously. On Mission Space it made it worse.
The absolute worst thing you can do on Mission Space isn't close your eyes, the worst thing is trying to look at the people around you. That will definitely mess you up!

On Mission space, closing your eyes is a bad idea, it will actually make you more aware of the spinning. the idea that you are NOT spinning comes from the screen.
On Star Tours, there is no spinning, period. Beyond that, nearly all the 'motion' is virtual. It happens on the screen in front of you. Close your eyes and all you will feel is a tipping motion, like riding a bike uphill/downhill.
So basically, if you close your eyes on Star Tours, you can pretty much eliminate most of the motion you are feeling.
