Will SSR locate me close to check-in, bus stop, etc.

I will be traveling to WDW during the last week of March and staying at my home resort of SSR. This is my first trip as a DVC member.

I use a cane because of a botched knee operation and I will use a rental ECV in each of the parks. I do not need nor do I want a electric cart outside the parks.

If I emailed SSR to place me close to the check in and the restaurant, would they do it? I'm looking at a map of SSR and from what I can determine, the best area for me would be The Springs. It seems to be close to the bus pickup, the restaurant, the lounge, etc. but how much of a walk is it from the Springs to these places.

Thanks,
Chuck

I know that Special Reservations would be the ones to help you if you were doing a non-DVC reservation (it could be at SSR, but if you weren't using points). I'm not sure how they handle it for actual DVC visits. What I would strongly suggest is calling DVC's number where you make reservations and asking them for assistance. They may put you through to Special Reservations or the equivalent group in the DVC universe. They may just be able to "lock" it in themselves. Either way, talk to them, explaing WHY it is MEDICALLY NECESSARY for you, and you should be just fine.

Just one other comment. You said you are going to rely upon ECVs at the parks. You may want to STRONGLY reconsider that, especially going in the last week of March. That is projected to be an EXTREMELY busy time for the parks per TouringPlans' Crowd Calendar, and it is VERY possible that you won't be able to get an ECV as they do "sell out" fast. Additionally, if you hope to park hop, you run a VERY high likelihood that the park you're hopping to won't have any more. It's completely up to you, but you might want to consider an off-site rental that will deliver to you at SSR. They often cost a little less, are a better scooter, and you can be certain that you actually WILL have one, when you need it.

If you have any questions about off-site companies, check the Stick on here or ask away, I just used one for just under a week in the beginning of October.

Whatever you do, Enjoy the Magic!

Chuck,

If you informed Member Services when you made your ressie and told them the reason why, they will try as much as possible to do this. The resteraunt is by check-in. There are 4 bus stops right now, so getting close to them should be no problem. Even the nearest buildings to the resteraunts you will still be going up hill to them. That may be your biggest problem. We enjoy staying at SSR. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have thought about an off-site rental but I don't think I need the ECV for general use. Walking a great distance is quite painful (e.g. in the various parks) even with a cane. However, I don't think I would need a cart around the resort and the disadvantages of using one in seeking transportation to the parks (waiting for a bus or van that can handle carts, etc.) would probably frustrate me. :sad2: I may be wrong and I may reconsider. If I do, I know where to find one.

I understand that the crowds will be fairly large (8,7,7,9,9,9 for my six days) but I would be at the parks when they open and if I do transfer, I would do it late afternoon or early evening. BTW, I also used one at the beginning of October. You were probably one of the individuals I bumped into as I was getting the hang of driving an ECV. :moped: :dance3:

I don't use one at home because I really don't need one. I can't do that much walking unfortunately. I like to walk and would like to continue walking to try to lose some weight but my knee won't allow it. :sad2:

Hopefully, my condition is a temporary one.

If waiting for a bus that can handle the ECV is all that is stopping you from renting an off site ECV remember that almost all Disney busses can accomodate upto 2 ECVs.

We just got back from WDW. My DW rented an ECV from off site for the first time due to knee surgurey. We did not run into any problems getting around on the the busses. We were at VWL.

About the busses.
We were at the dolphin, so buses to MK and AK.
I believe we only got skipped on 1 bus. I didn't get a good look from
the exit of the bus. It was the super old bus, where the stairs turn into a flat platform. I kind of think the bus driver was someone who didn't want
to ask people to move to another seat, so as to make room for the ecv.
A few of the bus drivers are like that, but many just ask the people sitting in the wheelchair zone to move to different seats.

If you know there are 4 bus stops, and you know which bus stop is bus stop number one, on the pick-up route. Then maybe request your room be near that bus stop. That way your sure to get a spot as long as there aren't 2 other ecv's going to the same park.

If you bring along the scooter rental places phone numbers w/ you to disney. If you change your mind to rent offsite its an easy call.
The offsite scooters are easier to manuever, and smaller than the onsite ones, and you able to get one at downtown disney. I was under the impression, there are fewer options there.

Have a great trip.
Connie
